Strange Windows 8 disk issues causing software to crash
I'm having a very strange issue with my new Windows 8.1 laptop. Any time I upload a file in a browser it crashes within seconds. It doesn't matter if I use Opera, Chrome or Firefox. Also, some applications crash directly after launching them such as SmartFTP, SnagIt Editor and Jing crashes when I save a file. Also, when opening This PC in a file upload dialog sometimes it will keep loading for hours. I've tried to get more information by clicking Debug after a crash and here are some of the errors I've noticed when debugging Opera and Jing: Unhandled exception at 0x66AAF19F (apphelp.dll) in opera.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation writing location 0x0C9E0DA8. Unhandled exception at 0x7720A604 (msvcrt.dll) in Jing.exe: 0xC00000FD: Stack overflow (parameters: 0x00000001, 0x0F6E2FFC). NsGroup=windows8 ApplicationIdentity=C7C9F04F5D2127C1BA59AC3D486E6F21
Creating a new user account did resolve the issue. Is there a way to recover from this without having to reinstall all my applications? It usually takes about 3 to 4 days of nearly full-time work before I get things running right and it's not guaranteed the same thing won't happen again if I can't figure out the root cause.
The main culprit is seems was OpenDrive. After uninstalling it, restarting, reinstalling the other apps that had issues, everything seems to work fine.
The same issues are present in safe mode. Safety scanner did not uncover any malicious files. I will try creating a new user account now and see if that resolves the issue. FYI I replaced the secondary hard disk with an SSD but that didn't resolve the problem either.
Hi Ken, This issue might occur due to some third party programs and sometimes due to a malware also. You might also face this issue due to a corrupt user profile. Follow these methods to resolve the issue: Method 1 : Step 1 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows/create-user-account#create-user-account=windows-8 Let us know the results. Hi Ken, Glad to know that the issue has been resolved. If you have any further issues on the computer, please post your question regarding Windows and we will be happy to help you.

Zune software crashes less than a minute after launch
Starting yesterday zune.exe crashes 10 - 30 seconds after starting with the generic error "Microsoft Zune has stopped working". Over this time period I removed a number of development tools from my system because things had become cluttered and I wanted to start fresh, these included Visual Studio 2005, Visual Studio Express 2008, XNA development environment and various versions of the Windows Phone 7 develolopment tools. I suspect that one of these uninstalls has something to do with the instability. I have attempted to uninstall and reinstall the Zune software but the problem still occurs. I have also tried running the program in basic graphics mode using the "-gdi" flag on the off chance that a graphics card update I did 5 days was related. I have not noticed any other software issues on my system, nor do the event logs show any other Application Error events. Below is the crash report created. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Version=1 AppName=Microsoft Zune AppPath=C:\Program Files\Zune\Zune.exe
Thank you for the advice, sorry it took so long to send a response. This was great advice for fully removing and reinstalling the zune software. I followed this and the advice I had seen in these forums for reseting the zune libray. In both cases, things worked for a while (although setting up the partnerships for the three devices I sync got old). Unfortunately, in all cases, as I went back to reorganizing my library , the software would eventually get back into the cycle of crashing. After going through this multiple times, there appeared to be a pattern. It appeared that when I changed the category of video files in my collection from "other" to "Movies" or "TV", the software eventually became unstable. By backing up the C:\Users\Alex\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Zune\ZuneStore.sdf file and slowly changing the categories of the movie files from "other" to "movies" or "TV" I was able to get this problem to repeat with regularity. Each time I could restore the backed up copy of the
Help to us non-computer savvy people would be nice too! I have been dealing with this problem for over 6 months and my support chats do not seem to be helping me with it either!
what's interesting about this is that my problems started around the time I got a new router. At that time I moved my external USB drive that had my music from my PC USB to a USB on the router so it was easily networked, always accessible. If this was the problem, why my directory would have been "unresponsive", I have no idea. Also, a simple move of the drive back to the PC and repointing of the libraries did not solve the problem. However I do believe this may have been one of the original causes. After moving the drive back I then did a clean boot, followed by the microsoft clean uninstall tool and removed EVERYTHING zune. I then looked in program files folders and deleted everything. I then rebooted again and reinstalled fresh (still clean boot with everything but MSFT services disabled). It has finally started working again. I still have not changed my boot mode back to normal or done anything else since I FINALLY got it working. I don't want to touch anything. This was a lo
Hi all -- For whatever reason, my thread moved to a different page, where I mentioned that I'd solved the problem. I can't guarantee that it will solve the problem for all of you, but check out the page at http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/zune/forum/zune_install-pc/zune-crashes-with-bex64-in-msvcr90dll-about-30/893c8889-9606-46bc-82d3-3b4970de5b7d?msgId=791a467f-0f90-400e-8bac-e3103b2b6766 to see what I did and my thought processes. Hi -- I am newly noticing this problem on my Win7x64 system. It was working fine since I originally installed it, and I used it constantly. I hadn't used it in awhile (a few weeks or months) and, of course, Windows had been doing its automatic updates normally. Then, when I tried using Zune 3 days ago (07/22/2012), I received the ever-popular "Microsoft Zune has stopped working... BEX64 / Zune.exe / 4.8.2345.0 / MSVCR90.dll" I have determined two things through hunches and trial-and-error: 1) When I logon as a different user, Zune works fine. Of course, as the "other user," I am not accessing my library. 2) When I logon as my normal user BUT DISABLE NETWORK ACCESS, Zune works fine. I can only conclude that the issue is related to the library and getting/setting content updates from the internet. Beyond that, however, I'm mystified. Uninstalling and reinstalling does nothing. If anyone has any ideas, please add! Thanks to all -- Dave
I'm having the same issues - tried all the uninstall, cleaning, updating DRM security files, creating new profile. nothing has worked. The same issue occurs on all profiles. Win7 32 bit... It may have to do with location of a library as I got a new NAS but zune won't run long enough for me to change the library settings. I'm sure there's a way to do this outside of zune (they don't reset on clean uninstall/reinstall so they must be pulled from else where). Any help is appreciated. This might be the end of a long relationship with Zune. If I can't sync my device, my zune pass is useless.
I think all you do is change the libraries in win 7 and it replicates over I think. If not change it in WMP. It even gives me issues in win 8. It seemed to start when it self updated to turn off the market
No luck... I did manage to change the libraries, reset them all to the defaults on the C drive. Still crashing.
Dear AlexanderPandelos, Thanks a lot for your question in the forum. First of all I need to know if the Zune Software worked before you removed the mentioned tools or if this issue occurs ever since you installed it on your computer. In order to un- and reinstall the Zune Software, you should maybe try to do so using the following tool: www.tinyurl.com/zuneuninstall 1) Save the file to your desktop. 2) Unpack and then install it by following the installation steps. 3) After the installation is finished click “Start”, select “All Programs” and choose “Windows Install Cleanup” from the list. 4) Mark everything related to the “Zune” Software. 5) Click “Remove”. 6) After all the files are removed close the Windows Install Cleanup Tool and restart your PC. 7) Install the Zune Software using the file that you can download here: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=23771 Please let me know if these steps helped to solve your issue. Regards, Achim H. – Microsoft
I think it might do with the .net 4 security updates. It happened after those were installed.

.Exe files stopping when I play MMO games or when I try to access MMO modes in games in Windows 10
Well I tried to play this MMO RPG game called GetAmped 2 and I don't know whether the problem is occurring from the updates game itself, or the program files not running properly because of something being incompatible due to the change in Windows. I keep getting the typical ga2.exe stopped working and it subsequently being forced closed, it has worked for the past few months on this laptop using Windows 10 so I would like to know if anyone could shed some light to me about what the problem is. It might also be worth noting that a similar situation happened when I tried to play a mini-game in ToonTown, and it was fully functional besides that one mini-game that forced closed my game. These are the details of the AppCrash of the game GetAmped 2 that I've been playing: Version=1 EventType=APPCRASH EventTime=130960895397565546 NsGroup=windows8 ApplicationIdentity=5C813F1417E031F5A6180570313BF727

Hello, Thank for visiting Microsoft Answers and providing us with the detailed description about the issue along with the event logs which will help us in providing you with the targeted assistance. As per the description, I understand that you are getting error message “Internet Explorer has stopped working” while loading certain websites using Internet Explorer 10 in the system. I really appreciate all your efforts towards resolving the issue. In order to understand the issue more clearly, please provide me with the following information. Is this issue specific with certain websites or with all the websites? Have you tried using any other browser in the system and checked if the websites are opening fine or not? There might be a possibility that this issue might have occurred due to any virus infection or hardware acceleration is turned on in the system. Since you have tried a lot of troubleshooting steps like removed, reinstalled, reset, and unchecked all 3 rd party add-ons, I would
The issue appears to be the spIEBho.dll. a component of Sticky Password: ** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for ieui.dll *** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for ieui.dll *** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for ieframe.dll Unable to load image C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Silverlight\5.1.30514.0\coreclr.dll, Win32 error 0n2 You could revert to a previous version of Sticky Password until the issue is fixed in the newer version. That was the cause. I installed this newer version I found on the forum noted above and it resolved the issue. http://download.stickypassword.com/debug/StickyPassword_rev80430.exe Thanks again, Stan
Also, the error may be related to the graphics driver so try updating the graphics driver or disable GPU rendering as suggested by Jayant Gupta. If the error persists consider capturing a user mode dump of the crash which has the potential to pinpoint the cause. You can configure Windows to create user-mode dumps. Create a System Restore Point first. If you copy and paste the following in Notepad and save as a .reg file (save with the .reg extension and give it any name such as iedump.reg), then right-click the .reg file and select "Merge" to add to the registry, a .dmp file at the time iexplore.exe crashes should be created in the C:\CrashDumps folder: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\LocalDumps\iexplore.exe] "DumpFolder"=hex(2):43,00,3a,00,5c,00,43,00,72,00,61,00,73,00,68,00,44,00,75,\ 00,6d,00,70,00,73,00,00,00 After Internet Explorer (iexplore.exe) crashes, can you then make the .dmp file available (provide

Method 1: If Internet Explorer crashes, stops working, or closes immediately after being opened, you might get an error message telling you that Internet Explorer isn't working, or that it encountered a problem and needs to close. In most cases, you'll be able to restore the browsing session you had open when Internet Explorer closed. Method 2: Install the latest updates Run Windows Update to correct problems by replacing out-of-date files, updating drivers, and fixing vulnerabilities. Click the Start button, and enter Update in the search box. Click Check for updates in the list of results, and install any updates from Windows Update. If you need any further assistance with Windows Operating System, please post your query on Microsoft Community Forums and we’ll be glad to assist you with it.

IE 8 Freezes When Visiting Certain Websites - Places Notepad Icon on Desktop
Good Evening: I'm very frustrated... I just upgraded from IE 7 to IE 8. The recommendation was to uninstall the current Java version, and install the most updated version ( www.java.com ). The problem was resolved. Runescape and TextTwist (among other games) won't run on IE8
When we had IE7 we used to be able to play Runescape, TextTwist (off of MSN Games), view video from the national tae kwan do website, etc., but now those games won't load. As from the 5 June 2012, WMP will no longer play DVDs. Updated WMP. Reinstalled it and still have the same problem. Had to verify I had genuine windows software, which I did. I have tried restores before and never had much luck. I kept going back further each time and the last possible restore point worked. That was soon after I'd posted. Regardless of that. I must thank you for taking the trouble for reading my post and advising me though by the time I had read your kind and thoughtful reply, my problem was sorted. One thing that might be of interest. Was that I mentioned to a friend of mine about removing 'Microsoft Office' from my Pc and I was thinking, could that impact on WMP not working correctly as it came packaged as a bundle. he mentioned it could do! Again, Thank you very much, Take care and maybe one day I can return the kind gesture you have shown me.
You did not mention System Restore...did you try that? Restoring to a time before the issue began might be worth a try. (306084) How to restore Windows XP to a previous state http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=306084
System restore has saved me lots of times. If you ever try it and it fails to restore the system...try running it in Safe Mode. Reason being that other programs can sometimes interfere with it...especially virus scanners. No one has all the answers...especially me...but if you mean an OEM bundle as in the software that came on the computer when you purchased it...I would say no... uninstalling a trial of MS Office should have no impact on Windows Media Player. Thanks for the feedback.
Windows Explorer Crashing because of StackHash_a417 errors
Hi, I'm having random Explorer crashes. According to online sources, this error can be cause by a DEP conflict. However, it seems to me that explorer is compatible with DEP. Any ideas? Here's the logs: Version=1 EventType=BEX64 Any help appreciated! Mithrandir
Hi, Thank you for your reply. Actually, I did create a new user account, but as I mentioned earlier, due to the randomness of this crash, it wasn't a realistic way to troubleshoot, because I haven't had this crash for about a month since your last reply. But today, I got another one, this time caused by msvcrt.dll. I've included the details below. Hope this helps! Mithrandir Version=1 EventType=APPCRASH AppName=Windows Explorer AppPath=C:\Windows\explorer.exe
Hi, Thank you for your prompt response. Actually, about six months ago, I ran SFC as a preliminary troubleshooting procedure. I ran it again today, and found no integrity violations. Any ideas?? Thanks, Mithrandir
Hello Mithrandir, You try to disable the Anti-Virus and then try to install the update after a restart. Temporarily disable anti-virus by following the below link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Disable-antivirus-software Note : Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks. Hope this helps. Otherwise, feel free to write us back for further assistance and we will be glad to help you ahead. Thank you
Hello Mithrandir, Thank you for the update. I would advise you to create a new user account and see if you get the same error prompt in the new user account as well. Hi Shalini, Haven't heard from you in a while...any tips to resolve my issue? I already created a new user account, but due to the randomness I described earlier, it wasn't an effective way to troubleshoot the issue. Thanks, Mithrandir
Thank you for your reply. Answering your questions: 1. No, as I said, it's completely random, sometimes it crashes when I just double click on a folder on my desktop. 2. No, not really, because this has been happening for a long time, again, in a random way...sometimes more often, like 3 or 4 crashes within 10 min, but other times it will not crash at all for days. Due to this randomness, I'm not sure if a clean boot would be effective in resolving the problem, but I can try it if you'd like. Also, a bit of history on this issue: I previously contacted support about Explorer crashes, but these were due to the faulty module atiacm.dll, an optional component of the AMD graphics driver. Disabling the module with ShellEx fixed the problem, but now I'm getting StackHash_a417 cited as the source of the crash. Here are the event logs you requested, I hope they are the right ones. I exported all events from Event Viewer (Local)\Windows\Application. Here's the link to the file: http://we.tl/aUD

Hi Emilio, Did you make any changes to the computer prior to the issue? This issue could be caused by some third part program or some dll file corrupted. Method 1: Step 1: I would suggest you to boot the computer into safe mode with networking and check if the issue persists. Starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and services. If a problem doesn't reappear when you start in safe mode, you can eliminate the default settings and basic device drivers and services as possible causes. Windows Startup Settings (including safe mode) http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-including-safe-mode Step 2: If the issue still persists, then the issue also could be due to some third party program causing the issue. Clean boot will eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program or an update or when you run a program in Windows. You may also troubleshoot or determine what conflict is causing the problem by performing a clean boot. How to perform a
Also, the module which appears to be causing the crash, the NInput.dll (Microsoft Pen and Touch Input Component) is a component of Windows. However another, possibly third party, module may actually be causing the crash. If the error persists I would recommend to capture a user-mode dump of the explorer.exe crash to get more information on the crash and see if the cause of the crash can be pinpointed. You can configure Windows to create user-mode dumps. Create a System Restore Point first. If you copy and paste the following in Notepad and save as a .reg file (save with the .reg extension and give it any name such as explorerdump.reg) then right-click the .reg file and select "Merge" to add to the registry, a .dmp file at the time explorer.exe crashes should be created in the C:\CrashDumps folder: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\LocalDumps\explorer.exe] "DumpFolder"=hex(2):43,00,3a,00,5c,00,43,00,72,00,61,00,73

Also, although the windows.storage.dll appears to be causing the crash it may be another module actually causing the crash. I might suggest to try to obtain a user mode dump which has the potential to pinpoint the cause. You can configure Windows to create user-mode dumps. Create a System Restore Point first. If you copy and paste the following in Notepad and save as a .reg file (save with the .reg extension and give it any name such as dump.reg), then right-click the .reg file and select "Merge" to add to the registry, a .dmp file at the time explorer.exe crashes should be created in the C:\CrashDumps folder: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\LocalDumps\explorer.exe] "DumpFolder"=hex(2):43,00,3a,00,5c,00,43,00,72,00,61,00,73,00,68,00,44,00,75,\ 00,6d,00,70,00,73,00,00,00 After Explorer (explorer.exe) crashes, can you then make the .dmp file available (provide link) via a public folder on OneDrive (SkyDrive) or s

Windows 8 search & opening control panel crashes/restarts explorer.exe
When typing in something to search such as a keyboard character in Windows Metro View explorer.exe crashes and restarts itself. It does the same when I do a search in Windows Explorer. Also opening Control Panel also crashes Explorer. msconfig in command prompt does work Windows troubleshooter did pick up anything In my app event viewer Could not reproject corrupted file [ml:520{260},l:46{23}]"\??\C:\WINDOWS\System32"\[l:18{9}]"esent.dll"; source file in store is also corrupted So I assume need to do a reinstal or is there something else I can try?
Do you realize searching crashes and restarts explorer and now you are asking to search? NICE
I have run through the instructions above and it still crashes. The following link will allow you to manually access the control panel screens though which is a workaround albeit not perfect. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/180025 Rick
I am having the same issue, did you ever find a resolution? I removed splashtop and it did not affect anything.
Hi win8_832, An alternative method to get to the Windows Memory Diagnostic is the following: Right click in the bottom left corner of your window Click on Control Panel Click on Administrative Tools . Hope this helps!
OK I resolved the issue. I figured out what the problem is. After reinstalling my machine control panel and metro search did work however when I installed "Splashtop" the remote desktop software then my Control panel and metro search crashes explorer. So after I uninstalled Splashtop by running Windows button + R and typing appwiz.cpl to get to the uninstaller then those two things worked again. The windows explorer search not working and crashing explorer when finding an item is another issue that still doesn't work since reinstalling windows.
Hello, Perform a Memory Diagnostic test and see if it helps. a: Press Windows key + Q to open the search box. b : Now click Settings and then type Diagnose your computer’s memory problems , hit enter. c: Restart now and check for problems(recommended) Hope this information helps.
Uninstall and hide the Windows update KB2756872 . Check link for more details. I hope MS will fix it soon.
Right clicking on Control panel in the bottom left also crashed explorer and restarted it. So what I did is your second suggestion to use the refresh option in the charms bar. I selected refresh your computer without affecting your files. It restarted my PC and booted automatically off of the Win 8 DVD. I then selected repair option and then the same refresh PC without affecting options that appears. It installed (after a while) and rebooted twice. Search does work now because the process reinstalled windows replacing all file. All my programs are gone. Windows store items still do exist I can log in with my previous user. Windows.old folder is created with program files and user folder is moved there. Windows feature are installed again so reinstalling my old programs do not retrieve the old settings.
OK after the repair of windows I did windows update and installed a few programs thinking the problem would resolve itself. Metro search works and Control panel opens. However Windows Explorer search still crashes and restarts Explorer.exe process as soon as I type in something to search. I did some tests with the Explorer search It crashes in C:\ It crashes in my own storage folder with subfolders. (It takes a while longer to crash and starts to search) It does NOT crash in a folder with 4 files and no subbolders when searching for a keyword that is NOT found in the title of those 4 files It DOES crash in a folder with 4 files and no subbolders when searching for a keyword that IS found in the title of those 4 files I have a SSD drive so search should be fast

Method: 1 Check if Excel works fine in application safe, Click Start> Type ‘ Excel /safe ’ without quotes in search program and files and hit enter. If Excel does not crash in safe mode then you may try to disable add-in one by one and check which add-in is causing the issue to do the same follow the steps mentioned below and verify the status: Open Excel> Click on Office button>Excel Option> Com add-in> uncheck all the check boxes and click ‘Ok’ For more information related to disabling the add-in you may refer to the link given below: Note: make sure you check the box back again to enable the ‘add-in’ in Excel 2007 http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/excel-help/enable-or-disable-add-ins-in-office-programs-HA010034127.aspx Method: 2 You may start the computer in clean boot and check if a non-Microsoft service is causing the issue. Windows 7 Explorer.exe keeps crashing with pnidui.dll error.
First let me say I have not installed any new software in quite some time, nor have I changed hardware, or any system settings. Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit SP1. All updates and patches are current. I am having issues with Windows Explorer crashing. When it crashes I receive an error saying it is related to pnidui.dll. I have checked the event logs and there are no other system logs or crashes from other programs. Only Windows Explorer. I have figured out that I can trigger the crash simply by hovering my mouse cursor over the network icon in my system tray! AppPath=C:\Windows\Explorer.EXE If anyone can help with this I would really appreciate it. I am about at my wits end.
Okay, FINALLY got dump files. Hopefully I did this correctly https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=C67C9512D2EB66BC!129&authkey=!AEuAD6UcFdjfBzo
Well this is just peachy... Uninstalled the bluetooth software, rebooted, and check disk ran. It "fixed" about 3000 orphaned files, went to a reboot again, then came up with an error that says "The program or feature "\??\c:\windows\explorer.exe cannot start or run due to incompatibility with 64-bit version of Windows. Please contact the software vendor to ask if a 64-bit Windows compatible version is available." UGH... At least I have back up images. Time to reimage (again) and start over.

I can at least hover over items on the right side of the task bar without explorer restarting now. Which is definitely a positive. Thanks for your help auggy. I truly appreciate it
Although you should not have to, try restarting the computer and then see if a dump file gets created. Also, does the same crash exist in Safe Mode and Safe Mode with Networking?
So it's possibly some sort of bluetooth software? Humm... I really don't have any recollection of installing bluetooth software on my PC. But sure enough, there is BlueSoleil Bluetooth installed. Uninstalling it now, will reboot, and report back since I know what to do to get it to crash.
it may be useful to try to capture a user-mode dump of the explorer.exe crash to get more information on the crash. You can configure Windows to create user-mode dumps. Create a System Restore Point first. If you copy and paste the following in Notepad and save as a .reg file, then right-click the .reg file and select "Merge" to add to the registry, a .dmp file at the time explorer.exe crashes should be created in the C:\CrashDumps folder: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\LocalDumps\explorer.exe] "DumpFolder"=hex(2):43,00,3a,00,5c,00,43,00,72,00,61,00,73,00,68,00,44,00,75,\ 00,6d,00,70,00,73,00,00,00 After Explorer (explorer.exe) crashes, can you then make the .dmp file available (provide link) via Windows Live SkyDrive or similar site? Update: This issue came back after 3 days. Windows still says the files are corrupt and when I ran the dism repair scan, it could not repair it.
Hi Alex, It appears that some of the system files are corrupt. You have mentioned that the SFC scan found some corrupt files, but didn’t fix them. In this case, I would suggest you to run the DISM tool and check. You can refer to these steps: Press Windows key + X, select ‘Command prompt (Admin)’. In the Command prompt window, type the following commands and press enter after each command: DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth Close the command prompt and check. Method 2: If the above steps didn’t help, then I would suggest you re-register the ntdll.dll file which is reported as the faulting module in the log. Refer to these steps: Press Windows key + R, to open the run command window. Now all you have to do to register a DLL file is to type in the regsvr32 command, followed by the path of the DLL file. : regsvr32 C:\Windows\System32\ ntdll.dll Where C:\ is the drive where you have installed Windows. Running the first command worked.
Hi Alex, I apologize for the delay in responding. I would suggest you to run the DISM commands once again. Once the DISM tool completes, run the SFC scan as explained in this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833/en-us Once the SFC scan is completed, check if it reports that there are no corrupt files. Restart the computer and check. Try these steps and let us know the results.
Hi Alex, Glad to know that you resolved the issue. Feel free to get back to us for any other Windows related queries in the future; we’d be happy to help. Have a great day!
explorer.exe keeps crashing randomly in windows 10
I've upgraded from windows 8.1 to windows 10 about six months ago, and never had this problem till now (can't think of anything that has changed). After short periods of time working on the computer the explorer just keeps crashing - in the event viewer it manifests in these 3 records - in that order usually: --1 Application: explorer.exe Framework Version: v4.0.30319 NsGroup=windows8 ApplicationIdentity=A39049BBB6091E0631AB5CA15E25C7CC
so, about the questions: 1) Nothing in particular, it just started happening about 3 days ago. Maybe it is one of the updates? 2) Sadly, no. 3) Created a user for this specific purpose, and in the 30 minutes using it it didn't happen: doesn't mean a lot though, since in the current user it doesn't always happen every 10 minutes or so - it can happen every couple of minutes for one hour, and not happening at all the following hour. Method 1 I've tried before opening this thread and it didn't find nothing, and now I tried method 2: DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth which also didn't find any problem...
Hello, We regret the inconvenience. Let me assist you. Before we proceed further, let us know a few more details on the below questions. Did you make any changes to the computer prior to the issue? Is it an abrupt issue? Do have any System Restore point set in Windows prior to the issue? Write to us with the updated status and the required information related to Windows performance, for us to be able to assist you further. Thank You.
The "Faulting Module" is not identified: Faulting module name: unknown, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x00000000 To try to identify the faulting module I suggest to obtain a user mode dump of the crash which has the potential to pinpoint the cause. You can configure Windows to create user-mode dumps. Create a System Restore Point first. If you copy and paste the following in Notepad and save as a .reg file (save with the .reg extension and give it any name such as dump.reg), then right-click the .reg file and select "Merge" to add to the registry, a .dmp file at the time explorer.exe crashes should be created in the C:\CrashDumps folder: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\LocalDumps\explorer.exe] "DumpFolder"=hex(2):43,00,3a,00,5c,00,43,00,72,00,61,00,73,00,68,00,44,00,75,\ 00,6d,00,70,00,73,00,00,00 After Explorer (explorer.exe) crashes, can you then make the .dmp file available (provide link) via a public folder
Hello, Thank you for keeping us posted. At this point, I suggest you to check if the device drivers are up to date. Also, follow the below link written by one of our esteemed MVPs. Greg Carmack to check if it helps to any extent. Kindly keep us posted. Thank You.

And now I don't get BSODs but this explorer.exe crashes is very annoying.
Hi, Did you find the same issue in clean boot state? If not, there could a third party application that is causing the explorer to crash. Also, as SFC scan couldn't repair some files, I would suggest you to run DISM and check if it resolves the issue. Refer to the link to run DISM tool to fix inconsistencies on Windows: Refer to the section “ Use the inbox Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) tool to fix corruption errors ” http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821/en-us Note : This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, you can refer to the following steps to back the registry files on the computer: Press Windows
I want to ask about something. Can a bad or hardly read DVD disc cause this issue after copying files from that disc?
Hi, Thank you for providing an update. Yes, as the per the screenshot, the corrupt system files are already repaired. Do you still find the explorer.exe crashes on the computer? If not, then the issue is fixed. Please let us know if the issue still persists.
Oh my god. I set the computer to turn off the screen after 5 minutes. Today when I got back to use the lock screen and show Desktop. The explorer.exe crashed again.
I detected the error file that couldn't be fixed. Hi Amged, For a better understanding of the issue, I would need more information from your end. 1. Does the issue occur while performing any particular function? 2. Do you get any error messages? 3. If you run the virus scan the program that is infected with virus will get deleted. So you have to reinstall the program. Also if the files and folders are affected with virus then they might even get deleted. Hope this information helps. Reply to the post with updated status of the issue to assist you further.
Thanks a lot I followed all the steps and fixed things. :) So no problems with the Registry now?
What are third-party applications? I have Advanced System Care installed. It gave me this result Anyway what causes files to get corrupted?
How can I fix this please? I don't want Windows reinstall! The scan was unable to fix some errors why??

Hi Jesse, Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community Forum. Did you make any significant hardware or software changes to the computer prior to this issue? Does it happen when you access some specific application? If so, name the application that you initiate. The causes of ntdll.dll error messages can vary greatly. However, most ntdll.dll errors result from a corrupt or damaged version of the ntdll.dll file itself, corrupt hardware drivers, or issues between Windows and other programs. Its the end of the day. I log out of my computer. The next day I come in, and go to log onto my computer and there is a popup error at the Windows 7 log on screen stating that "Explorer.exe has crashed". At this point I click "OK", and I proceed and enter my credentials. Then, Windows freezes. I reboot the computer, and all works fine. -- The next morning when I go to use my computer, the same exact thing happens. No other programs or anything is running this literally happens at the logon screen, It doesn't happen any other time, just at the logon screen.
I turned on my pc this morning and it started as usual, until it came to loading my desktop which was just a black screen. ive got ASC advanced system care to clean up my pc and it comes with a performance monitor. it was all that I had showing. I clicked and openened it to scan, stopped the scan and went to tools. here I clicked large folder finder, right clicked a folder to open. then that gave me the menu for my pc. clicked internet explorer and now I had access the net, searched forums for help. but found very little, as I had MSI issues as well. decided to look for MSI in my pc, so clicked my computer and opened C/, then I clcked windows, scrolled down till I spotted explorer, so I clicked that to opened it, but suddenly got my desktop back im totally stunned, but this is true BoB

Just wanted to ask if this can have anything to do with with the large number of items in the context menu for files. Can it be? I would say it is possible, but I doubt it. I would install one of the programs you removed to see if you can duplicate this again.
Thank you for the help. Instead of getting into the clean boot mode, I just uninstalled all the application except Norton Internet Security and uninstalled and reinstalled the latest version of Ad muncher. Lets see if I get the error again I will know its among these two. And if nothing happens will install the uninstalled applications one at a time each week. Currently, since the removal there has not been any crashes and the system seems more responsive than before. Hi, I have Windows 8.1 installed on Dell XPS 8700. Everytime I start the machine(at least 7 out of 10 times), Windows Explorer crashes. This happens only during startup or restart. The program Explorer.EXE version 6.3.9600.16441 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Action Center control panel. Glad to see you found the issue. It looks like you have started a topic on the Acronis forums so hopefully you will get some good input there.
Hi Auggy, Its definetly Acronis. I reinstalled Acronis 2014 and made all the changes as per the link you mentioned but still the problem happened immediately. I have Acronis 2014 not 2013 and it is updated to the latest version. Atleast now I know what is causing the problem. It was driving me crazy.
There have been some reports of Windows Explorer hanging on startup after installing Acronis True Image such as here . Perhaps try temporarily uninstalling Acronis TI and see if the problem resolves. What version of Acronis TI is installed and have you applied all updates for this software?
Hello Auggy, I uninstalled Acronis 2013 which is certified on Windows 8.1 and is the latest version available. The problem is gone after that. I have done atleast 10 reboots to confirm that. I will try installing Acronis 2013 again with the suggestions given in the link you provided. thanks so much....

Sorry, but the problem still exists after disabling all 3rd party extensions. here is the dump
The nvwgf2umx.dll seems to be still causing the crash. The error seems to occur accessing the thumbnail cache so try clearing and restting the thumbnail cache: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/10797-thumbnail-cache-clear-reset.html Also, what GPU is involved and what was the last driver that worked without issue?
I did not install a driver by myself. I run the lenovo system update regularly to update drivers (it's a thinkpad t420s) and that worked fine so far. However, I noticed that windows update tries to install a driver update for Intel HD 3000 which fails again and again (the machine has dual graphics Intel/NVidia). Maybe there is a correlation?
The module that appears to be causing the crash is the nvwgf2umx.dll: *** ERROR: Symbol file could not be found. Defaulted to export symbols for sppc.dll - *** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for nvwgf2umx.dll *** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for nvwgf2umx.dll Probably caused by : shell32.dll ( shell32!CFSFolder::_InitFolder+8c1 ) The nvwgf2umx.dll is the NVIDIA D3D10 driver which is a component of the NVIDIA graphics driver. What I might suggest is to update to the latest NVIDIA graphics driver (currently 334.89) available from NVIDIA. Also, visit Windows Update and install all updates, including optional, for the Operating System such as this one which will update the shell32.dll.
The "fault module" appears to be the SHELL32.dll, a component of Windows: Sig[3].Name=Fehlermodulname Sig[3].Value= SHELL32.dll This may indicate the module actually causing the crash is a third party shell extension such as NVIDIA shell extensions. Have you installed the latest NVIDIA display driver (currently version 334.89) from NVIDIA?
It appears to be a similar error as before. Can you download the following utility (ShellExView): http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html Can you try using ShellExView to disable any third party shell extensions. Try disabling all third party shell extensions and then log out and log back in again and see if the same issue exists. If not, re-enable them, one at a time, to find out a problematic one, logging out and back in again after each change. Some third party extensions to look at if they show up in ShellExView amongst other ones: igfxrdeu.lrc nvshext.dll DragExt64.dll sfShellTools.dll any Tortoise SVN extensions If the error still occurs after disabling all third party shell extensions can you please provide the resulting dump file.
I cleaned the cache using the disk cleanup tool, but the problem persists. I don't know which GPU is used for Desktop/Explorer, how can I find that out? After the last windows updates (around monday 24th) my desktop wallpaper was reset to default (changing landscapes). So I wanted to switch wallpaper images off again, but I can't because the settings dialog instantly freezes, shows wait cursor for about 5 seconds, then closes itself and the explorer about 10 seconds later. To answer your question: I used this function the last time with newly installed windows 8.0, I don't know which driver was used. I installed recent drivers from lenovo website at this time. I would highly recomend to obtain a user mode dump of the crash to see if the cause of the crash can be pinpointed. You can configure Windows to create user-mode dumps. Create a System Restore Point first. If you copy and paste the following in Notepad and save as a .reg file, then right-click the .reg file and select "Merge" to add to the registry, a .dmp file at the time explorer.exe crashes should be created in the C:\CrashDumps folder: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\LocalDumps\explorer.exe] "DumpFolder"=hex(2):43,00,3a,00,5c,00,43,00,72,00,61,00,73,00,68,00,44,00,75,\ 00,6d,00,70,00,73,00,00,00 After Explorer (explorer.exe) crashes, can you then make the .dmp file available (provide link) via a public folder on Microsoft OneDrive or similar site. The following link has information on using OneDrive (SkyDrive): http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproui/thread/4fc10639-02db-4665-993a-08d8650

Please provide a copy of your System Information file. Type System Information in the Search Box above the start Button and press the ENTER key (alternative is Select Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Information). Select File, Export and give the file a name noting where it is located. Do not place the cursor within the body of the report before exporting the file. The system creates a new System Information file each time system information is accessed. You need to allow a minute or two for the file to be fully populated before exporting a copy. File Explorer crashing in Windows 10 msvcrt.dll
I have one person who is having Windows File Explorer crashing when attempting to copy files from local storage to OneDrive. The issue carries over despite the computer having Windows 10 Professional reinstalled, and ** no one else with the same applications and build is having the same issue. ** AppCrashView is giving the following information from Windows Error Reporting Version=1 Any ideas would be appreciated ***Post moved by moderator to the appropriate category.***
That seems to be standard settings. Can you do the following to double-check: Windows Key + R > then in the Open box type %localappdata%/crashdumps > OK Are the any explorer.exe dump files in that folder?
I've tried creating a userdump on the machine via the registry, but the dump doesn't actually get created. Can you see how that is setup in the registry by checking the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\LocalDumps Expand LocalDumps and click on explorer.exe Can you post a screenshot of the right window which has the DumpCount, DumpFolder and DumpType.
Finally cooperating, got 2 explorer mini-dumps, from the looks of it, along with a stickynote dump
Can you provide the dump files via a public folder on OneDrive or similar site or you can email them to me - my email address is in my profile.

Hi Paul, To isolate this matter, we have some questions for you: When did this issue start? Were there any changes made before the issue occur? What other troubleshooting steps have you done so far? Let us know how it goes. Regards.
Here is some info from the Explorer crash: *** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for VCRUNTIME140.dll *** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for GROOVEEX.DLL *** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for GROOVEEX.DLL *** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for sppc.dll *** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for sppc.dll *** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for FileSyncShell64.dll *** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for FileSyncShell64.dll Probably caused by : msvcrt.dll ( msvcrt!terminate+29 ) There is a reference to the FileSyncShell64.dll which is a OneDrive shell extension and this may be significant if there is any media involved not formatted as NTFS (eg. formatted as exFAT) There are some similarities with OneDrive crashing in the following link (involvement of OneDrive extension(s)): https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/cce12e54-3c68-48cd-a057-f62e20334420/onedriveexe-crashes
Took me a while to get it, sorry, been a bit busy with the rest of my office. The user is only getting the errors after she's moving numerous files to OneDrive, the error happens at random, but usually the more files moved, the quicker the error pops up, and a reboot only resolves it temporarily
Oddly, this is happening even when not copying directly to OneDrive, user's Desktop/Documents/Favorites are linked within the profile to a local server and are not actually stored on the local computer's hard drive. When the user copies a number of files from a subfolder on the desktop to one under Documents, she has also experienced these crashes. The other wrinkle that I can't figure out the cause, is that explorer.exe will not relaunch after it crashes, and even trying to run it from Task Manager causes the process to show up for a few seconds, and then close. Only running userinit from the Task Manager will relaunch explorer.exe with the Taskbar, Start menu and desktop view. I'll try to see if I can snag any more crash dumps, and see if it's all caused by OneDrive. Reading into crash dumps is not something I have any past experience with.
Issue started several weeks ago, but no specific software has been installed in the interim. No other changes aside from Windows updates have been made. I've run chkdsk, sfc /scannow, attempted system restore (which fails with a generic error, despite AV being disabled), I've run dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth I've tried to use procdump to determine the actual root of the crash, which has now caused explorer.exe to not restart when it does crash (user isn't too happy with that), along with adding the registry entry for having WER create a userdump, which has also not been successful. I've run Malwarebytes on it, with nothing being found. Safe boot aka Clean Boot is not going to help, as the user is running into the issue when moving files from her machine locally to OneDrive, and Safe Boot will prevent her from being able to have the appropriate services running.
explorer.exe crases every few hours
Hi, I tried googling for an answer but none seems to matched what i'm experiencing. COuld anyone help me out because the error message windows explorer stopped working keeps coming out every few hours. I have done sfc /scannow and chkdsk but both came out good. Version=1 EventType=APPCRASH EventTime=130681657575528107 AppName=Windows Explorer AppPath=C:\Windows\Explorer.EXE
Hi to both! thanks for taking the time to reply to me :D really appreciate it. Although i have the latest graphics card driver, i went on to reinstall the graphics driver. It's been two days since I had a crash and i hope it stays that way. Many Thanks to both of you! Cheers!!! :D
Also, if the error persists consider capturing a user mode dump of the crash which has the potential to pinpoint the cause of the crash. You can configure Windows to create user-mode dumps. Create a System Restore Point first. If you copy and paste the following in Notepad and save as a .reg file (save with the .reg extension and give it any name such as explorerdump.reg) then right-click the .reg file and select "Merge" to add to the registry, a .dmp file at the time explorer.exe crashes should be created in the C:\CrashDumps folder: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\LocalDumps\explorer.exe] "DumpFolder"=hex(2):43,00,3a,00,5c,00,43,00,72,00,61,00,73,00,68,00,44,00,75,\ 00,6d,00,70,00,73,00,00,00 After Explorer (explorer.exe) crashes, can you then make the .dmp file available (provide link) via a public folder on Windows Live SkyDrive or similar site. Here's a couple of links on using OneDrive (SkyDrive): http://
Hello Jansen, Thank you for your response. It is good to know that the computer has not crashed from the last two days. I appreciate your time. Please feel free to reply, if you have any other issues with Windows. Thank you
Hello Jansen, Thank you for posting your question on Microsoft community. I would like to know some information about the issue so that we could help you better. 1. What is the make and model of your computer? 2. Did you make any hardware or software changes to your computer prior to the issue? I appreciate you for providing details about the issue and your efforts towards resolving it. This issue may occur either if display driver is out of date or due to presence of infection like virus or malware. I would suggest you to try following methods and check if it helps. Method 1: Update display driver of your computer from the manufacturer's website and check. Please refer these articles: Update a driver for hardware that isn't working properly http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/update-driver-hardware-isnt-working-properly#update-driver-hardware-isnt-working-properly=windows-7 Update drivers: recommended links http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/update-drivers-recommended-l
Windows Explorer crashes randomly
Since I have upgraded my PC to Windows 10, Windows explorer keep crashing randomly. It happens when I search for items on my C drive but also when within any third party applications I try to open a new file. I have tried sfc /scannow, dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth, reinstall Windows 10 etc... not to avail. The event viewer says it a problem with my ntdll.dll: Faulting application name: Explorer.EXE, version: 10.0.14393.0, time stamp: 0x57899981 Faulting module name: ntdll.dll, version: 10.0.14393.0, time stamp: 0x578997b2 Exception code: 0xc00000fd file to see if I could see more but it is all Greek to me. Is it the SHCore.dll the real culprit? Any help on this would be really welcomed!
The Explorer crash referenced several modules however all the modules are components of the Operating System: *** ERROR: Symbol file could not be found. Defaulted to export symbols for windows.storage.dll - *** ERROR: Symbol file could not be found. Defaulted to export symbols for Once you locate the ADIST64.dll can you right-click and rename the ADIST64.dll to ADIST64.old Log out and log back in again.
Hi Auggy, Thank you for your response. I have renamed the ADIST64.dll to ADIST64.old but Windows Explorer still crashes. I have also downloaded Shexview and disabled all Adobe related .dll but the problem still persists. This is driving me crazy.
Try temporarily uninstalling AVG and see if the issue resolves. Afterwards you could reinstall AVG using the latest version.
I have just tried to uninstall AVG and the explorer still crashes. Any other ideas? Thank you for your help Auggy.
Hi Auggy, here is the latest dump file s. Note that I have re-installed AVG.
Can you provide the latest dump files since renaming the ADIST64.dll.
Can you provide the latest dump files?
Hi Auggy, Here is the latest dump files . Thanks!
Hi Sudeep, Thank you for your reply. Any search (word documents, jpg etc..) on any folders on my c:/ drive or network drive will eventually cause windows explorer to crash and restart. My CRM (ACT!) crashed when I try to open a query file, the Windows Event viewer crashed when I tried to save the error report, Outlook crashed when I tried to attached a file to an email etc.. It's basically any applications that requires to open Windows Explorer to browse to a file. I can't think of any new software except maybe CCleaner and some drivers and bios update from DELL that was installed after the upgrade. I tried to boot in safe mode but Windows Explorer still crashes. I performed a clean boot to with no more luck. I really tried everything I could think of, including reinstalling Windows 10. I am out of ideas.
Hi Vincent, I realize the inconvenience that you are facing with Windows 10 and will certainly help you. To assist you better on the issue, I request to provide information on the following questions: When you say “search for items on my C drive”, which items are you referring to? Are there any specific items which is causing the crash? Which third party programs are you referring to? They might be the cause of crash. Did you make any changes/installed any programs after the upgrade? The causes of ntdll.dll error messages can vary greatly. However, most ntdll.dll errors result from a corrupt or damaged version of the ntdll.dll file itself, corrupt hardware drivers, or issues between Windows and other programs. I suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below and check if it helps: Method 1: Boot into Safe Mode and check if the issue persists . Click on the link below and follow the instructions to boot into safe mode: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17419/windows-7-advanced-s
Outlook 2016 Crashing when view Group Conversations
I'm having a similar issue that was described in this thread: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/msoffice_outlook-mso_winother/microsoft-outlook-2016-32-bit-crashes-when-viewing/3116f906-f4f6-4929-97a1-3b56c04ca6e2?page=2 My Office version is: 16.0.6965.2063 Issue: Everytime I click on one of my Outlook Groups in the Outlook 2016 (32 bit) client, Outlook crashes on the conversations screen. I'm using Windows 10 on a Surface Pro 4. Accessing the groups in OWA via the browser works just fine. AppPath=C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\OUTLOOK.EXE ApplicationIdentity=00000000000000000000000000000000
Darn. I am on a newer build, and it's broken again. I am 64-bit 16.0.7204.1000.
Kevin, what Office version are you on, where it's now fixed?
Hi Kevin, Thanks for your updates. Take your time to test it in another clean PC and then let us know the result. In addition, I notice the latest Office version is 16.0.7070.2026, so please check if the issue persists after updating Office. To update Office: Click File > Office Account > Update Options > Update Now in any one of Office suites. Regards, Larry
Hi KevinTLee, About the #3, could you please share with us a screenshot? As I know, in Outlook safe mode, group conversations are hiden by default, but we can manually click Show Conversation to show them. Do you mean that you cannot manually show them? Please also share with us the following information for a better understanding of the whole situation: Does the issue occur to other users? Does the issue occur to all groups or certain groups? In another clean PC, please download the Office suite from the Office 365 account portal and then set up your account in Outlook to check the issue. Thanks, Brook
16.0.6965.2066
Larry, Great news, the office update fixed the issue. I'm able to access groups again via the Outlook client! Thanks for your help.
I am having the same issue when I hit file options in outlook (2016). The support team had me install, de-install, run a number of scripts to remove the office product still have a problem.. I believe its a Microsoft issue with where the two are not compatible; started after I updated with the latest OS patch
ahh, I'm actually on 32 bit version so that might be the latest public build for that flavor.
Hi Brook, Regarding running in safe mode, when I click on the "Show Conversations" button, it also crashes Outlook. 1. I think this issue is unique to my computer. 2. The issue occurs for all groups. 3. I'll try this and report back.

Hi Subbarao, I understand the frustration when things don't work as expected. You may post the question in the link mentioned below if only Microsoft Project Professional crashes for better assistance. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2013_release-project-os_device_win7?sort=lastreplydate&dir=desc&tab=Threads&status=&mod=&modAge=&advFil=&postedAfter=&postedBefore=&threadType=All&tm=1429126043245 But, if other applications too crash then you may place the computer in clean boot and check if it helps. To help troubleshoot error messages and other issues, you can start Windows 7 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This kind of startup is known as a "clean boot." A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts. How to perform a clean boot in Windows Note: Check the title “How to reset the computer to start as usual after clean boot troubleshooting” for reverting to normal mode. First thought is that something pretty basic is wrong so Project probably didn't install properly so I would: Repair the Project installation Install SP1 for Project 2013 and the latest updates. Windows update will do this for you
Thanks Rod for the response. I have installed MS Project professional 2013 on factory clean machine also. The issue still exists. The issue exists even after installing SP1 for Project 2013. I have not done windows update, but downloaded Project 2013 SP1 and installed it. My machine is 64-bit. Does that cause any issue.

Hello, jmc99 Thank you for using the Answers Forum. Uninstall Java then reinstall the latest version. Detailed instructions for removing Java are available at http://java.com/en/download/help/uninstall_java.xml If that doesn’t solve your problem, one of your add-ons may be incompatible with Internet Explorer 8. To test if one is causing the problem you can try running Internet Explorer without add-ons. Go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools and open Internet Explorer (No Add-ons). If Internet Explorer runs correctly, an add-on is causing the problem. You will need to disable the add-ons and enable them one at a time to find the one causing the problems. In the No Add-ons Internet Explorer window go to Tools, click Manage Add-ons, change the Show setting on the left to All Add-ons then select all of the add-ons listed an click Disable All. Restart in Normal mode and enable them one at a time. Let us know if this helps. David Microsoft Answers Support Engineer Visit our Mic

Hi Vizfranz. I'm in a company dedicated to create contability programs. Development deparment designed the add-ins in Visual Basic 6 to use it with the company apps. The add-ins works on Systems x86. A man said me that could be something with ntmarta.dll but removing this dll causes problems in the entire system. So, you recommend move this topic to TechNet forums or open new topic there? Thank you for your help :)
Hello, We would like to know more about your concern regarding the errors you encountered in Microsoft Excel. What are the add-ins in your Excel application? Where did you download the add-ins? To help you further with regard your concern, I highly recommend that you post your query in the TechNet forums .

In the case of your security product it may be necessary to uninstall it and use its cleanup procedure to make sure that its hooks have been completely removed from the OS before testing. It looks like the version of mshtml.dll is the latest so that probably accounts for your problem. E.g. the other providers may have to revise their hooks to work properly in the new environment. If

Office Files Vanish with Windows 10
I am running Windows 10 and working with Office 2016 Pro. This is months after I upgraded from 8.1 Pro. That went OK. # I just lost the latest changes to yet another WORD document. I opened it, thinking it would be the last version that was saved, but no... I got a version from two days previously. So WHERE is the file that I edited and saved ???? # This is a very simple basic routine operation here. User works on a file and saves it to disk, and it should be there on the disk when the user wants to continue editing and adding to the file. This was the prime functionality of DOS 1.0, decades ago. # I clicked opened the latest named file. But discovered it was an older version. Later, WORD asked me to log in. What business is it of Microsoft whether I'm logged in or not. I'm working on my own on my desktop. I HAVE NO NEED for Microsoft to snoop through my files. What this issue boils down to is this: Why can't Windows 10 keep track of the files on a user's desktop hard drive ??? # Why does Explorer show multiple paths to the same file ??? No wonder the system can't keep track of files. Why does Microsoft insist on One Drive for users who don't need it. I'm not playing with a toy smart phone here. I don't want to do my work over and over again because the file I last edited has somehow disappeared. ApplicationIdentity=00000000000000000000000000000000 It doesn't ring any bells for me. But it is certainly worrisome. If someone else has had this or similar problems, please add your two-cent's worth.

Hi Sam, Based on your description and looking at the log file, the crash seems to happen when you open an older file, such as a .doc file, in protected view mode. This issue is often caused by a bug in a faulty DisplayLink driver that shipped in an earlier Windows 10 update. You can try this guide too see if it resolves the issue. Please keep us updated when you have the time. Regards, Sheen

Hi Ben, Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community. I understand you get issues opening tabs in Internet Explorer. I will certainly help you in the right direction to fix the issue. However, I would appreciate if you could answer a few questions to narrow down the issue in order to provide you with better assistance. Did you make any significant hardware or software changes to the computer prior to this issue? Do you get the error every time you open Internet Explorer? The Reset Internet Explorer Settings feature might reset security settings or privacy settings that you added to the list of Trusted Sites. The Reset Internet Explorer Settings feature might also reset parental control settings. We recommend that you note these sites before you use the Reset Internet Explorer Settings feature. Resetting Internet Explorer isn't reversible, and all previous settings are lost after reset. Hope this information is helpful. My laptop is a Toshiba S75-A7270 wish Intel i5 2.3Ghz processor, 8Gb RAM and approx. 700Gb hard drive. I am running Windows 10 and IE 11.0.26. IE started crashing infrequently about a week ago. I get an error message that says there is a problem with the website that causes IE to close and reopen. It does this twice and then goes to a page that says "We were unable to return you to Bing.com, etc." So far I have done the following: 1. Checked add-ons and disabled all of them except Java Plugin SSV Helper 2. Deleted browsing history, download history, temporary internet files & website files and cookies & website data. --------------------No Change------------------Still crashing as soon as opened. Yes this is true, what is ironic is most of the MS sites like BING & MSN get hung up and have to restart. I am constantly sending Frown characters with screenshots from the Browser. Surprised this is taking so long to fix.
Hey MS, I see by browsing the community forum that there are quite a few of us having this problem. Is there a solution being worked on? Mine started happening after installing update KB3132372. The troubleshooter did nothing. Thanks,
Ran the troubleshooter as indicated and found nothing. Ran it again as system administrator and still found nothing. IE is still crashing when opened. Anything else to try? Thanks.

Microsoft Project 2010 Crashes when
I tried to repair this on technet with no luck :( http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/projserv2010setup/thread/c7864bbd-9415-4448-922c-658a25fa702e/#c7864bbd-9415-4448-922c-658a25fa702e They tried to tell me to disable all add-ins but it still crashed. I tried to re-install project 2010 with no resolution. The program DIDN'T crash a few times. Once it crashed the first time it crashed every time I close a project. The project plan saves but it still is annoying to deal with the crash. Here is the crash report AppName=Microsoft Project AppPath=C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14\WINPROJ.EXE
ZaneP, I'm sorry you are having trouble with Project but the forums may not be the place to ask for the help you need. Those of us who respond on the forum are all volunteers and are not employed by Microsoft. Posting the crash report means nothing to me and I guessing it also means nothing to anyone else who regularly responds on this forum. Occasionally a Microsoft employee may drop into the forum but that is a rarity and obviously none has for your issue thus far. If you are looking for Microsoft tech support, see this link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/319726?wa=wsignin1.0 That said, we may still be able to help you but we would need more information about your setup. We know you have Project 2010 but is it updated with SP1? What version of Office are you running? Are you connected to Project Server? Has the crash always occurred or did it just start? Does it crash with all files (i.e. new and existing)? Have you trashed your working Global such that Project generates a new fres

ZaneP, Wow, who'da thunk it. I'd be interested in how you found that reference. Thanks for the update. Please mark your last response as the answer. John

ZaneP, Okay, but there are a few questions you didn't answer. Check the last paragraph in my last reply and help fill in the blanks. Then I have some more questions. Are you working with a master/subproject structure or a resource pool/sharer file structure? Have all your files been strictly created, edited and saved with Project 2010 or did some of the process go through another version of Project? Do you have any VBA modules associated with the files? I have no idea what the issue is either. That's why we need more information to try to figure out the best approach to take. John
MS Visio 2013 crashes
I have MS Visio 2013 installed. The software installed just fine. As soon as I click on the create button after clicking a template. I get the following message. MS Visio has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. I believe an add-in stencil/template or some dll is causing it to fail. I started MS Visio in Safe mode ... Can someone explain me how to identify and remove this conflicting add-in. Thanks in advance. AppPath=C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office15\VISIO.EXE ApplicationIdentity=00000000000000000000000000000000
I was able to get to the File -> options menu. I do not have any add-ins installed. No add-ins are enabled. Visio still crashes on clicking the Create button. Please assist.
Hi there! I was having this exact issue, and I solved it by installing the Visio 2013 SP1 update, found here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2817443/description-of-microsoft-visio-2013-service-pack-1-sp1 Maybe that will help you as well?
No. Visio crashes in safe mode also. I'm unable to get to File -> options Any alternate suggestions to solve this problem?
Hi, Do you mean there is no crashing issue in Visio safe mode? If so, please go to File > Options > Add-ins, set Manage COM add-ins, click GO. In the add-ins list, uncheck to disable all add-ins, then restart Visio 2013 normally. Confirm if the crashing issue persists. If the issue can be fixed after disable all add-ins, we can enable the listed add-in one by one and repeat to restart Visio after enable one add-in to narrow down the issue to one specific add-in.
Where do you submit bugs for Infopath 2010? People Picker causes infopath to crash.

Hello, You can report to http://connect.microsoft.com Before reporting this issue, please check if the issue only apply to the specific xsn, please create a brand new InfoPath template, add Person/group picker control and connect to SharePoint again, can you reproduce the issue with the new InfoPath file? If we cannot reproduce the issue with new InfoPath file, I suspend the issue was caused by the old InfoPath template, not an issue with InfoPath application. Post back that we can discuss this further.

Hi Ishvara, The error which you have provided in the post has the DLL files related to zone alarm. If you have zone alarm installed on your computer, uninstall the same and check if the issue persists. Note: Uninstalling or disabling security software may put your computer at risk. Make sure you install any anti-virus or make changes with the settings with zone alarm. Thanks and Regards: Samhrutha G S - Microsoft Support. Hello Thank you for your reply. HTML is not a problem, but the flash version is not working. Comes up with Shockvawe plugin stopped working. Also I am using version 6 of VCSA cause I am doing training on it. I can disable the plugin in the browser, but then it comes with the message you need Adobe flash player to see this content. As soon as I enable it - Microsoft IE stopped working when I try to open the web client. And again is not deprecated I am using it at my work place and is not a problem. Same version of windows 10 and the same version of VCSA appliance. It is crashing on every browser as well. Thank you
Hello This has been all sorted - Just uninstalled KB4025376 Thank you
Wasn't the Flash-based vSphere web client already deprecated? Have you tried using the HTML-based vSphere 6.5?
TurboCAD Professional v12 Installation errors
I purchased TurboCAD Professional v12 and installed it on a laptop with Windows Vista OS. It is supposed to run on Vista but does not, and I have received updates from IMSI on the matter but I still get the same errors in the detailed information when I try to run the program which leads me to believe its an MS Vista OS issue: System: Unknown version of Windows based on NT, version 6.0.6002 Service Pack 2 Reason: Tcw12.exe caused an EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION in module Tcw12.exe at 001B:005A94E5, CMetricsDialog::OnSendNotificationSequence()+372344 byte(s) Registers: Sincerely, mictu
Hi Halima, I don't know if this is an issue or not, but in the environmental variables of the computer system it has the OS as Windows_NT. This is supposed to be a Vista OS. Can and should I change this, and what to? Windows_Vista? I just thought this was odd, and thought I would see what you think. Thanks, mictu
Hi Halima S, I tried the clean boot and I still did not run, but the error report this time said something different than the other I posted here originally. The original said something about an unknown OS based on Windows NT, and the one I am pasting below says Windows OS XP. Is that odd?: System: Windows XP, version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Reason: Tcw12.exe caused an EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION in module Tcw12.exe at 001B:005A94E5, CMetricsDialog::OnSendNotificationSequence()+372344 byte(s) Thanks, mictu
Thanks Halima S, I will try the clean boot when I can. Thank you for the response. Just for the record, TurboCAD Pro is a Computer Aided Design software. Thanks again. mictu
Hi mictu, Since Turbo CAD Professional is an third party application and we are unaware of its features. As a work around you may try launching the game with administrator privileges and check if it works. 1. Locate the program icon or a shortcut in Windows Explorer. 2. Right-click the program icon or shortcut, and then click “ Run as administrator ” 3. When the UAC message is displayed, do one of the following: • If you are logged on as a standard user, or if UAC is configured to always require credentials, enter the appropriate administrative credentials, and then click OK. • If you are logged on as an administrator and UAC is not configured to always require credentials, click Yes to start the application. If the above step fails then I would suggest that you try launching the application in a clean boot state and check if it works. To know more about clean boot refer the below Microsoft KB article. How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Wind

Hi Colion, Since you are using a third party backup utility, you may use the Windows backup utility which is built in to Windows 7. You may get in touch with the program manufacturer for further help.
Surface Pro not liking Access
Hi all, I've posted this in the Office/Access forum before I was able to determine it might be something to do with a driver for my Surface Pro. The problem is when attempting to set the record source property of a list box via VBA. If you attempt to do so, even to an empty string, Access stops responding. I have spend days attempting to narrow down the problem, without success. This occurs ONLY on the Surface and for both Access 07 and 2010. I have a brand new desktop PC running 64bit Win 8 with the same 32bit Office 2010 and have zero problems. I can replicate the issue 100% of the time (on the Surface) by creating a blank database with a form and list box. If you create an event to set the row source to anything, even "" and fire it, Access stops responding and restarts. I can do the EXACT same thing on the desktop and nothing happens, as it should. The only time the procedure will work and Access won't crash on the Surface is if you add a break point and step through that line of code. This is what I've done: AppName=Microsoft Access AppPath=C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14\MSACCESS.EXE
Jeffrey, there's no data source; I'll explain what I've done. The problem was originally spotted the very first time I attempted to run projects previously created on my old Vista machine, which I have never had this issues with. I have a network drive configured on each PC I use Access on to simulate the deployment environment. At first I thought it had something to do with the mapped network drive. So I moved the data source to the front end location, corrected the table links, but no difference. I put everything back, then began stepping through the code to see where it failed. That was when I found stepping through the code produced no errors and the code worked. But, try to run the procedure without a break and Access would stop responding. After a lot of random break points I narrowed down the problem to the setting of the record source of a list box. I then created a BLANK database with nothing but a single form with a single list box (no tables) and produced an on click event w
Do you see any Access Lock Files or temp files in the associated directory? Is the data source local or remote? I've seen this when the desktop locks the DB and you attempt to access it on another machine...
Hello JimboJones1980, Sorry to hear you are having issues with some features in Access. Have you tried right clicking the shortcut and running on compatibility mode? When installing, have you tried installing as administrator? Best regards.
Thanks for the suggestions Hugo. Unfortunately neither installing as an administrator and/or any compatibility version changes made any difference. I didn't suspect those sort of settings would help since I didn't need to change a thing on my desktop PC to get Access to work. But hey, I'll try anything at this stage...
Well it seems MS has issued an update in the last couple of weeks that has fixed the problem. If I get the time I may view the KB articals and see if there's a mention of the fix.
Entering web page address in New Contact - Outlook 2016
I have crashing (Microsoft Outlook has stopped working) and closing outlook, every time when entering a web page address. I have POP3 account and Outlook 365 Small Business Premium on new windows 10 computer. It started happening soon after I got new computer and migrated emails and contacts to it. I have tried all of the things in https://support.office.com/en-us/article/outlook-not-responding-stopped-working-freezes-or-hangs-5c313d04-64af-4441-82d2-44e5a43eee5a with no help, including making a new account and transferring all to new account, repairing the .pst files numerous times, running outlook in safe mode (note my contacts folder doesn't show in safe mode so can't try I going to contacts). I also have run the Offcat program and it doesn't show anything except it says that one update needs to be done but office update and update through outlooks File/Office Account/Office Updates shows everything is up to date. Here are two log files: ONE from the Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Event Viewer AppPath=C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\OUTLOOK.EXE ApplicationIdentity=00000000000000000000000000000000
I couldn't fix it, Microsoft tech support for office 365 logged into my computer couldn't fix it and an IT guy I hired couldn't fix it. The IT guy put me back to Office 2013 and everything now works. I will stay with 2013 until I have the urge, time and insane thinking to try 2016 again. Good luck with the issue, let me know if you figure out anything.
The previous reply just sent by itself, more Microsoft frustration: I have followed all your advice with no help. FYI, how I have my Outlook 365 business pro set up: I am using POP3 with 9 email accounts for two different companies with two different domain names. In my new company I have 20 email folders under the Inbox with 12 of them as a sub folder to one of the email folders. I have 7 main Contact folders with 40 sub contacts under these folders. I have all the other folders created when a new PST data file is created. I have a second Data PST file I use for my old company emails which has 12 email folders but I don't use the contacts folder in this data file. And last I have an archive data file. The following is what I did per your instructions. I exported all my emails, contacts calendar, rules to separate PST files for each where each PST file also included sub folders. I also exported one of my contacts folders called "Vendor" to it's own PST file and CSV file as this
Did you find a fix for this? I have been trying to fix this same issue on a users computer for a few days now with no luck. I have also just discovered that my own outlook gives the same crash when trying to enter a web address into a new contact...very frustrating.

Windows 8 Mail and IE Metro apps hanging whole PC
I have only had this problem since upgrading to 8.1 from the store. Frequently, several times a day if I use them, when I open the Mail app, and sometimes the IE app (especially if opened in snap view from a link in an email) once of these will happen: - The app will not load, it will show the first loading screen, and will hang the entire PC. Even the mouse does not move, Ctrl-Alt-Del does nothing etc. I can leave it for 30 minutes and nothing will happen. I have to power off (loosing work in the process) - The app will make the PC very slow, appear to lock, but will recover after 5 mins and then close - The app will hang and restart and then it is OK after 30 seconds or so This is pretty terrible, I am surprised that the new apps can actually lock up the whole machine, aren't they supposed to be sandboxed? This PC is pretty much unuseable now. At least with normal apps you can press ctrl-alt-del and kill them. I was going to get a surface but if this kind of thing can happen I am having second thoughts. NsGroup=windows8 ApplicationIdentity=257CE77C4973FBD580A10E2ED6FD44D4

WinJS application MoAppHang on Windows 8.1
We are developing LoB application using WinJS. While testing the application hung and was unreposive, later it crashed. The reason mentioned is Report.wer file mentions the reason as "Microsoft WWA Host is not responding". This has been observed quite often. We are not able to figure out the root cause for the same. Please find below the Report.wer contents: Version=1 EventType=MoAppHang NsGroup=windows8 ApplicationIdentity=FA134EAD42E4010F549E839BC5E1B85F
Hi, Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community. As per the issue description you are getting an error "Microsoft WWA Host is not responding" while testing the app which you are developing. It is crashing and giving you an the specific above mentioned error. WWAHost.exe in Windows 8 as an executable necessary for certain Windows Apps. Windows 8 uses Javascript to execute some Metro apps, and WWAHost is the process that hosts this. Because any Metro apps are written in the same fashion as webapps, several of them need to run interchangeably within Internet Explorer. Let’s try these methods and check if it helps. Hope the information provided is helpful. Do let us know if you have any more concern related to Windows. We will be more than happy to assist you. Regards,
Systemoverview causes Explorer to crash
Hello, I recently changed my pc. I took my 2 hdds (2x 500gb) and my gpu (gtx 680) from a AMD Phenom II X6 1090T (8gb ram) computer to a Intel i7 2600k (16gb ram) computer. My OS is Windows 7 Home Premium OEM/ System Builder. (I bought it after building my old pc and reinstalled it already a few times from the DVD). I don't knowif this piece of information is usefull but my mainboard is a MSI USB3 UEFI mainboard. As I open the System overview (either from system control panel or computer properties) it crashes after ~10secs. It does not show my Windows activation status (activated right now but I had the same problem before it was activated again). Screenshot: http://puu.sh/2whMw I think this should be enough information. I'm looking forward to your replies. Robin
#bump Can anyone help me please? I think I added enough information.
Hi Robin, I would suggest you to follow the steps in the below links for partitioning your hard drive. Method 1: Follow the steps in the below link. Open the Performance troubleshooter: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows7/open-the-performance-troubleshooter Method 2: Windows Explorer may crash in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2515325 I hope the above information helps you.
Hi Robin, Thank you for your reply. I would suggest you to follow the steps in the below link and let us know the status of the issue. Windows Explorer crashes randomly in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2638018 Disclaimer: Important this section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Back-up-the-registry Hope this helps.
Thanks for your answer. Method 1: I'm not shure how the performance troubleshooter is called in german. The start menu showed up two results when I search for the german word for performance. http://puu.sh/2wOJZ http://puu.sh/2wOI9 is the first one. The second result crashes the same way as the system panel. Now I think the windows performance index is the problem because it might be associated with the performance troubleshooter, its on the system panel and it changed since the upgrade. (It also crashes when I open it directly) Method 2: The patch installer told me I already have this patch installed.

I have the exact same problem. Did you ever find a fix for this?
Hi Rob, Thank you for sharing the resolution with us which will help others facing the same problems to fix it.
Thank you. Min sys. requirements are all met. Used the correct installer version. Installation went through, however when I open it I get the same error: Internet Explorer has stopped working.
No. I switched to Chrome after a lot of frustration and no answer.
No. I switched to Chrome after a lot of frustration and no answer. Do this to fix folks. After installing IE10 or 11 go to "Control Panel" then "Internet Options" - Click the "Advanced" tab- under Accelerated graphics right at the top -- Check " Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering". Your new IE will then fire up and work perfectly. I've seen this now in quite a few upgrades to IE 10 or 11. Thanks, Rob
Hi Joe, Thank you for the update. If you need any further assistance with Windows Operating System, please post your query on Microsoft Community Forums and we’ll be glad to assist you with it.

How do I fix the Windows Media Center not responding on Windows 7?
Whenever I open Windows Media Center, it doesn't respond. I've tried mostly everything. sfc /scannow, reinstalling it. I've never used it before. This PC came pre-installed with windows 7 home premium, then I bought an upgrade key and upgraded. Windows Media Center is the only problem I'm having, I don't understand why this is happening. Someone please help. Version=1 EventType=CLR20r3 EventTime=129650198068115422 ReportType=2 AppPath=C:\Windows\ehome\ehshell.exe ReportDescription=Stopped working
I fixed the problem by re-installing windows, none of the solutions on the internet fixed it. Thanks anyways.
Hi, Yes I have. Method 1: Nothing came up after I typed “%windir%\ehome\mcupdate” (without quotes) and pressed Enter. All it did was bring up C:\ or something. Does that mean it has the latest updates? Method 2: I tried a clean boot, ESET Smart Security is the only program that wouldn't allow me to disable it on start-up. Maybe ESET is causing the problem? I don't see why it would be causing the problem. ESET is not the cause of the problem as I figured. So now what do I do? BTW, I can't believe just to fix one program, I have to go through this.
Hi, OK you are in the clean boot, if you open Windows Media Center what happens? Are you getting that error just simply trying to open the program or when you try to play a cd/dvd? Also try this for me, open Windows Media Player and try to replicate the issue...what happens? Eddie b.
Hi, Did you reinstall Windows Media Player or Windows Operating System? Method 1: Check for the latest updates for Windows Media Center. To do this, follow these steps: a. Click Start, All Programs, Accessories and then Command Prompt. b. In the Command Prompt window type“cd \” (without quotes) and press Enter. c. Now type“%windir%\ehome\mcupdate” (without quotes) and press Enter. This will check for the latest updates for media center and will install them. Check to see if the problem persists. Method 2: Check for the issue in a clean boot state and reply the results. To perform clean boot follow the steps below; a. Click Start, type “msconfig.exe” (without quotes) in the Start Search box, and then press Enter to start the System Configuration Utility b. On the General tab, click Selective Startup, and then click to clear the Load startup items check box c. On the Services tab, click to select the Hide all Microsoft services check box, and then click Disable all. Click OK, and then

Fully-patched Word 2016 crashes 100% of the time in safe mode on "open file" dialog box
All Office 2016 apps (32-bit/Windows 10) crash occasionally for me when trying to open or save a file. There are dozens of threads in this forum and elsewhere with similar issues, but none of the standard checklist of solutions make any difference for me. Interestingly, I'm able to reproduce the problem 100% of the time running winword.exe in safe mode. When I don't run in safe mode, the crashes are more random; however, they often occur when trying to save a file resulting in data loss so it's a serious issue. In safe mode, it occurs every time. Steps to reproduce: (1) Run winword.exe /safe ApplicationIdentity=00000000000000000000000000000000 MetadataHash=-582748719
Do you have the Preview Pane active in the File Explorer dialog?
Tentatively it appears that deleting the registry key HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\office\16.0\common\portal\Link Providers\MySiteHost\URL fixes this problem. This is clearly a bug -- having a MySiteHost URL setting should not cause Word to crash 100% of the time. Hopefully this can be escalated to the right people to fix more systematically.
Do you have the Preview Pane active in the File Explorer dialog? No.
Windows Media Player 11 - Vista Home Premium x86 - C00D1199 error / 80040218; can only play about half of my library files
I've tried like everything on the forum, I think I need to reinstall Windows Media Player (Version: 11.0.6001.7008). Some of my codecs now don't work correctly & only about half of my previous playable songs still play. I wish I had a old System Restore point, but now all my old Restore Points are gone. Microsoft's download/update site is of no help, Microsoft only offers downloads for pre-Vista versions. For Vista, it says to restore using program recovery within Vista. I did go to my Sony VAIO Recovery Center program's Reinstall Programs or Drivers tab, but unfortunately Windows Media Player is not listed as one of the many factory-installed programs that can be restored to the original condition. I don't want to wipe my entire harddrive just to fix one program by doing the Restore C: Drive or Restore Computer System options because I have over 105GB worth of stuff that would need to be backed up. How do I reinstall just Windows Media Player or how do a fix this error problem???? I know the files are not corrupt because they play fine on my Compaq computer which has the same exact music files, only difference is the WMP version on my Compaq computer is like 11.0.8 I think. I already tried the Basic & Full versions of K-lite Codec package & my WMP still only plays about half of my library. The Windows Media Player error I get when I try to play an originally playable file is: "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file." Opening the Web Help link on the error box, it goes to: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/webhelp/default.aspx?&mpver=11.0.6001.7008&id=C00D1199&contextid=83&originalid=80040218 which says the original error code was: "Technical Details = This error might have been triggered by an error in another program or component of Windows. Download DirectX from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=3b170b25-abab-4bc3-ae91-50ceb6d8fa8d , and try installing it on top of the current install. Tim De Baets http://www.bm-productions.tk Ok I figured out the problem. This problem started occur around the same week that I upgraded my iTunes + Quicktime to a newer version. I went with my gut feeling & uninstalled everything Apple related on my Vaio. (I was also having a problem where Quicktime refused to play with sound, files would play but no sound would be heard) Then tried to play my unplayable mp3s, & they all play with no errors! I reinstalled iTunes & Quicktime & the whole Apple package thing on their site, & WMP refuses to play like half my mp3 library again =( Something about iTunes, Bonjour, Apple Software Update,
Yes, this is likely an issue with iTunes and/or Quicktime. I suggest that you report this in the Apple Discussion Forums . Tim De Baets http://www.bm-productions.tk
Oops, forgot to mention that all the previously playable files are mp3s, so basically only about half of my mp3s that I have are still playable. The other half, I get a red x-marked circle that appears next to the mp3s when I'm looking at my WMP library, and when clicked on the circle or when trying to play the mp3s that has the red circle, that C00D1199 / 80040218 error shows up.
What's the file type (MP3, WMA, WAV...) of the songs that don't play anymore? Tim De Baets http://www.bm-productions.tk

.wmv files no longer play on Windows Media Player, get C00D11B1 error message.
I am running Vista Home Basic 32 bit and I was able to run just about any video on Windows Media Player, but suddenly today it stopped playing any .wmv files that I have saved or new ones I download. All other formats still play including .mpg, .mpeg, and .avi. I tried installing K-lite Codec Pack and its update but did not help. When it installed it needed me to uninstall four different codec packs I had on my system, and at the end it listed a few links that it said were broken (I don't remember which ones.) Before installing the Codec Pack I had not made any changes to my system. My video and sound drivers are the most current versions. The following is the support information for WMP. Hi Ace531, As a first step of troubleshooting, I would suggest you to update your sound driver by following the steps in Method 1. Method 1: Windows Media Player C00D11B1 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/C00D11B1 Note: The steps are also applicable to Windows Vista Media Player. Method 2: Re-register wmvdecod.dll Wmvdecod.dll is responsible for all your .wmv files to play on Windows Media Player. If .wmv files aren’t playing, then probably wmvdecod.dll file might have gone corrupted. I would suggest you to re-register wmvdecod.dll by following the steps mentioned below. a. Click on Start; in the start search type cmd. b. Right click on cmd.exe and choose to “Run as administrator”. c. Type the following commands and press Enter after typing each command. Regsvr32 /u wmvdecod.dll Regsvr32 wmvdecod.dll d. Close the command prompt and then check if you’re able to play .wmv files. Hi, I'm actually having a similar problem except I cannot rip any CD's to wma format. It continues to tell me I am missing codec, however I have automatic codec updates enabled and have tried installing several 3rd party codex packs with no luck at all. I was able to rip to wma format a few months ago but have not been able to since. Any help would be great.
dvdmaker error 99%
I have searched for weeks for a solution to this..... there are lots of other people with the same problem, but I haven't found anyone with an answer that works for me yet. Windows 7 Home Premium, Asus K52JT laptop In DVDmaker I can create a DVD using single or multiple WMV files, preview works fine. Select Burn, encoding starts, gets to about 75% then zips up to 99%, fails with error and Discs haven't been touched - it doesn't even start burning anything. Content Partner None Found
Don't know if they've been converted - they are from a hd video camera orignally and were given to me by a colleague. I'm supposed to burn them to disc and distribute to other colleagues for training, which is why I want it to look as professional as I can. I tried mmconvert to convert to avi but it seemed to just freeze in the middle of the first video. It will take days to convert them all if it is just that slow. I found an old MS codec pack on the MS site, but it won't install on Win7. Something like this would be a great start, as at least I would know I had the default MS codecs installed. About to try the latest version of K-Lite codec pack. It will possibly break my system even more, but it can't be any worse than it is (ie not working at all). Windows reinstall is the next step, otherwise it looks like I'll need to buy 3rd party software, which sucks as I paid for DVDmaker when I bought Win7.
Maybe the following article would be worth a look: How to Burn DVD's with Windows DVD Maker http://www.7tutorials.com/how-burn-dvds-windows-dvd-maker (scroll down to ...What To Do In Case Of Issues)
Sorry, I should have realized you already tried disabling the filters. Just wondering...have the .WMV files in question been converted? If_Yes_maybe a different converter would be worth a try.
The following freeware may be worth a try for burning your DVD: (FWIW) It's always a good idea to create a System Restore Point before installing software or updates) DVD Flick http://www.videohelp.com/tools/DVD_Flick Ulead, etc...but at least this is a start. Good luck.
Thanks for this, but I had found that page already (I reckon I've read hundreds of pages referring to this issue). Forgot to mention above that I have tried disabling filters in the compatibility tab, I only have the AVI Decrompessor installed which from my reading usually isn't the problem anyway. Tried restore all defaults, no option makes any difference for me. It would be great if there was an install file for DVDmaker so I could reinstall it from scratch, along with a MS approved Codec pack..... too much to ask for it seems though.

Wrong colors in video playback in Windows Media Player 12
When I try to play an AVI video in WMP12 the colors appear to be yellowy or reddish. Coincidentally, the same thing happens online with Dailymotion.com videos. I am guessing this has to do with the codec since when I play back the same video on VLC Player the colors appear normal. However, I do not know how to change the codec used in WMP12 or even determine which one is being used. I am enclosing the Support Info for my system. Any help is appreciated; thank you. Windows Media Player 12 will only burn 11 minutes of music on to each 80 MB CD - it should record 80 minutes
My Windows Media Player will not copy all tracks of a music album on to a CD. There are only 7 mp3 tracks, so not a long album. It splits the burning over two CD's, stating that each CD has a maximum recording length of 11 minutes. I have no problem with these CD-R's on another computer. My Windows 7 is up to date, and I have the latest version of Media Player. I am using 80mb TDK 90min. CD's. Using another CD writer on the same computer, I have no problem, but cannot do it with Windows Media Player. A print-out of the Technical Support Information from my version of Media Player is included below (I do not know what it all means, but I am sure it will be useful to someone). I would appreciate any help or guidance. Many thanks Content Partner None Found
Recorded TV : Playback skips and or stalls. file corruption? Or codec issue?
I am having a problem with my recorded TV files. DVDs and online content work fine. When watching the recorded TV files with Media center or media player they get stuck. Video and audio stops for around 45 seconds to a minute and resumes missing that minute or so of content. It happens in the same spots in any given file on multiple files. It happens on files I have watched with no issues in the past. When I play the files with cyberlink they just skip over the "problem" content. I might be imagining it but I think the problem is getting worse as time goes on. I'm leaning toward a codec issue. As the problem is across different players. I still wonder about file corruption. Just simply because files I have viewed with no problems before are now presenting the same problem. I would however think if a codec went bad or was somehow replaced it could cause the problem on older content as well. I have not installed any codec packs. Is it possible to reinstall or repair the codecs I have? Am I barking up the wrong tree? Hopefully helpful info follows. P.s. Just figured out that original builder used shark007 for codecs. I have not updated since the build. So that will be my next step. I was trying to avoid utilities as the help section said to be careful with codec packs. for anyone that stumbles across this I fixed my problem by changing the drive I was recording to. I had been recording to a secondary drive. when I changed the default recording directory back on to my main drive (the one windows is installed on) my problem ceased to exist.

Outlook 2010 crashes constantly
I have a computer with Windows 7 64 bit and Office 2010 connected to a Exchange 2003 server. During te day Outlook will crash a couple of times. I did an Office repair, created a new ost file, did chkdsk /r /f on the system, all the latest Microsoft updates are installed, disabled all unnecessary addins. Most of the time Outlook crashes when opening an attachement like a pdf or excel file. We have more Windows 7 computers with Office 2010 but these don't seem to have the same problem. When the crash occurs it's generates the following error message, what could cause this? Does the same thing happen if you start Outlook in safe mode? Hold Ctrl when you click its icon to start it. Have you tried repairing the Office installation?
Haven't tried safe mode yet, but I did an Office repair, this didn't help. Is there any way to find out why Outlook is crashing, maybe generate a dump file or something when it crahses?

I have Windows 8 on both my desktop and my laptop, and both have the same Windows Media Player, version 12.0.9200.16578. The technical support info are below. My user accounts are essentially identical. I was given a video taken with a typical iPhone. It has a .MOV suffix. When I play the video on my desktop, it is played on its side. It's displayed in landscape mode and the tops of objects are on the left side of the screen. When I play the video on my laptop, it is played correctly. It's displayed in portrait mode and the tops of objects are on the top of the screen. (Of course, this only happens with iPhone videos with vertical orientation.) How can I make it so my desktop displays the videos with the correct orientation? I imagine something needs to be updated, but have no idea how to do that. Windows Update doesn't say an updat eis needed. Thank you, ____________________________________________________________ Laptop Technical Support Information
Hi SilvertonOregon, To help you with the issue, we need more information. Please answer the following questions: 1. What is the screen resolution set on the desktop? 2. First, the resolution of both is 1920 x 1080. Second, the monitor's default resolution is 1920 x 1080. Third, getting the screenshot was very revealing! IE9 crash on some page after installing KB2888505
After updating IE9 with KB2888505, it start crashing on some pages. After uninstalling the KB2888505 patch, IE9 works correctly in those pages. We also tried to disable all the plugins used in IE9 (iexplore.exe -extoff) but with no luck. We also tried to fresh install windows 7 with IE9 (RTM version) in a VM environment, it works correctly. But after installing the KB2888505 patch. It start crashing. Here is the report list in the Event Viewer: Event 1000, Application Error: Faulting application name: iexplore.exe, version: 9.0.8112.16520, time stamp: 0x525a68d9 AppPath=C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe We can also provide a crash dump if needed.
a prototype to illustrate this problem. Can that be made public? Or a repro description in words be made? It would help your case if you could have others saying that they could see the same symptom, e.g. in your Connect report. FWIW I am now on KB2888505 on IE11 and was not able to reproduce the crash I saw yesterday while editing a quote from your first message. I'm not surprised that I wasn't able to recreate it because, as I mentioned, that particular one has always seemed to be random, in fact, less frequent than it once was.
After updating IE9 with KB2888505, it start crashing on some pages. Do you have a repro procedure with any particular page? We can also provide a crash dump if needed. Stack Back Trace might be useful but from your list of Loaded Modules I doubt that anything will jump out at me the way it sometimes does from that diagnostic. I suspect a repro procedure will be the most useful additional symptom description. BTW while trying to edit your Quote I managed to crash my older version of IE11 (on W8.1 Preview). And I just got 0x80073712 for Some updates were not installed when I tried to get KB2888505 manually. So I will see if mine is less stable when I get that applied. I'm not sure that I could reproduce the crash I just had though. It's one I have had in here before with varying frequency but never known how to repro sufficiently to bother trying to report it. Hi Rebert, Thanks for your quick response. As the problematic page is in our internal system, I cannot disclose it publicly... So I also submit a bug report to connect.microsoft.com ( https://connect.microsoft.com/IE/feedback/details/810110/ie9-crash-on-some-page-after-installing-kb2888505 ) with a prototype to illustrate this problem. Hope the information is enough to trace. Regards, Sammy

Internet Explorer 11 mshtml.dll keeps crashing when visiting a certain website
My desktop computer runs Windows 7 Pro x64 with the latest updates. When I try to open a certain website in Internet Explorer, IE would crash and display the "Internet Explorer has stopped working" message. The error indicated something wrong with MSHTML.DLL. Using another browser (Chrome and Firefox) to open the website is fine; it will crash when it's opened in IE. Using IE to open other websites is OK too, just one particular website is having problems (if anyone wants to try, the website I am having issues with is https://payroll.payworks.ca ). I am running IE version 11.0.9600.18697. I have tried opening the website on Internet explorer on a computer running Windows 10 and it doesn't have this problem. So this issue seems to be happening on my Windows 7 computer only. AppPath=C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE Anything else I can try? Thanks!
We had the same issue on a 2012R2 RDS server. We uninstalled update KB402270, after a reboot the problem was gone.
Hi Sam, The mshtml.dll file allows IE to read and display HTML web pages. The issue that you're experiencing may be caused by missing or corrupted mshtml.dll file. You can run the automated troubleshooter for Internet Explorer issues as it addresses any issues it may detect. If you need further assistance, let us know.
From what I can tell I have the same issue. It seems to be isolated Windows 32 bit systems in my environment and could only find the KB4022168 installed. Once this update was removed Internet Explorer 11 now works properly again. Good catch and thank you!
Hi Itep, I uninstalled KB4032782 (didn't have KB4022168 installed) and rebooted. Then I tried accessing the website again and the page loaded without crashing IE anymore! I suspected it could be a Windows update issue but wasn't sure which update it could be. Thank you so much for your help! Sam
I don't know if this is still an issue for you, but I just fixed it on my machine running Windows 7 64 bit IE 11 (11.0.9600.18697), with the KB4022168 installed. IE had the MSHTML.dll crash on certain sites, like the one you described, I installed Ad blocker plus v. 1.6 for IE, and that seemed to fix it, IE is not crashing now. Link to the version I installed https://adblockplus.org/releases/adblock-plus-16-for-internet-explorer-released Hope it helps
Hi Jezhel, Thank you for your response. Unfortunately, I cannot run the automated troubleshooter you provided. When I try to run it, it will say "An error occurred while loading the troubleshooter". See picture. Any other tools or ideas? Thanks.
Hi 'ol Chap, Do this and let me know your returns, please. Create a System Restore point, for your own peace of mind. Then, go to your 'installed updates' at "Control Panel > Programs (or Programs & Features) > In top of left column select 'View Installed Updates'" Today is Monday, July 3, 2017. I have a new clean install, fully Windows drivers updated HP laptop Windows 7 SP1, 64-Bit OS running IEv11. I had same issue/error loading ONE site only and that was 'espn.com'. I saw your troubled link in this forum, clicked it and experienced same issue related to mshtml.dll crashing my IE. Then I tried this... Known Issues in Windows Update: KB4032782 and KB4022168 Look for these two updates in the path I outlined above. REMOVE BOTH...you may only find one of two but still remove. REBOOT/Login and let me know what you find. Any doubts? Well then fall back onto your 'System Restore' point that you created, thereafter. Itep

I have the same problem. What gives?
Hi Dennis503: OMG - you're a genius - I also just uninstalled Windows Update KB3097877 after having had the same problems the last couple of days and looks like my Outlook is stable once more. I also wasted time uninstalling / reinstalling Office 365, uninstalling / reinstalling my security software (BitDefender, Malwarebytes, WebRoot), and my fall back was my iPhone to access Outlook. I could have also accessed my e-mails via my ISP (web mail) which I do when I'm not on my computer and don't have my iPhone at hand, and that would have been the next step. KB3097877 was first installed on my computer on Nov 10, and soon after I started to have problems. After uninstalling / reinstalling Office 365 a couple of times, Outlook was OK for a little while, and then the crashes started to happen again. Lesson learned - if I come across this issue again - I'll just uninstall EVERY recent Windows update, assuming that a fix to the update with the bug will be resolved sooner or later. You're the
David Glad I was able to help. I did backout some add-ins first and did the office re-installs. I was thinking the PST file was corrupt. Thankfully not. This is the future with auto-updates. Heaven help us. Regards Dennis
I think I may have found the found. As noted in another post, a Windows Update KB3097877 has to due with Outlook showing pictures from outside sources. Based on the other comments, I uninstalled Windows Update KB3097877. Then rebooted. It has been ok now for 3 hours. I think we're good. So I lost about 10 hours of productivity resolving this. To Deepak, it is an Outlook issue thus posted here.

Issues Installing Office 2016
i have to give up on my attempt to install. it looks like the issues are bigger than my companies security systems blocking something (something we ran into trying to push 2013). here is the story of how i spent my evening 09/24/2015. 1. tried to install with 2013 installed and ran into a streaming error. 2. tried to install again and the preparing for install screen popped up but soon disappeared and nothing else happens. 3. after a reboot it looks like it is going to start up again but hit a hard crash. find application logs below & report.wer attached (love the friendlyeventname=stopped working! ): application error: i tried one more time to install 2016 and received the first error so i gave up. i had similar luck with my first early attempt to install 2013 but the 2013 install works great now. i hope microsoft gets the 2016 installer working just as well in the near future. i appreciate any feedback. thanks!
Hi Zane, Could you share some updates with us? Thanks, Ran
Hi Zane, The reason why you see the Error code 30174-4 may be that your antivirus software, firewall, or proxy settings prevent you from installing Office 2016. Here are some things you can try to fix the problem. Please follow the steps listed in the article below to see the outcome. Error code 30174-4, 30125-4, 30038-4, or 30125-1011 when installing Office If the issue persists, could you please share a screenshot of the error message with us? Word crashing when trying to save docs to Sharepoint
I have Word 2010 and have been using Sharepoint 365 for quite some time now. One or two people are now having a problem where, after editing a doc in Word, they cannot save it to Sharepoint and/or it crashes Word. It has been happening now over a week and is very unpredictable. I am pasting the word crash report from the Report Archive. This happens multiple times a day. Alll we can do is save a local copy of the file and then try over and over until it finally works. Again, we have probably 15 users, this is only happening for 2 of them who happen to use the same Share (but are never in the same file at once). And it only started happening the last 10 days or so. I noticed there was a big Microsoft Office update about Oct 15, but this would have affected them longer ago if it was related to this. It never happens with local Word files so I'm sure it's related to the 365. Hi MignonneHalpern7357, Thanks for your update. According to your description, I get know that the Word 2010 application crashes when clicking Save after editing the documents from SharePoint library. If the issue started happening after installing the update KB3055034 for Microsoft Office 2010 that was released on October 13, 2015, the root cause may be the Office desktop client update. Given the situation, I would like to suggest that you post the issue in our dedicated Office 2010 forum . We have a specific forum on TechNet that handles Office 2010 desktop client issues. Thanks for your understanding. Shirley
Hi MignonneHalpern7357, I notice the issue occurs to the persons who use the same Share. For further investigation, please send us the information below: 1. More details about "use the same Share". 2. What about if you let others use the same Share you mentioned? 3. Do people encounter the issue when using another application? Thanks, Hale
Yes, the issue persists, I keep trying to email you back but it keeps not going through 1. More details about "use the same Share". Sorry, same document library is what I mean. This is no longer true - seems to happen in different document libraries but most frequently one in particular - nothing unusual about it. 2. What about if you let others use the same Share you mentioned? Different people do use this doc library, also on different computers. Only commonality is all pcs are Win 7 and all use Word 2010 and they are using the doc library from Windows Explorer 3. Do people encounter the issue when using another application? ONLY in WORD, but that doesn't mean much because there's really only word files in this doc share. New update - another client I have (completely different M365 subscription) now has the identical issue - Word crashing when accessing word files from a doc library Anything we can do? Any updates to try? Anything? We are pretty much flailing at this point. O
Hi MignonneHalpern7357, Does the issue persist? If so, please send us the information mentioned above for troubleshooting Thanks, Hale
Word 2013 hangs on a document created in Word 2007
The document was originally a 5 page agreement created in Word 2007 and the original functioned correctly. Another user who is testing Office 2013 opened it in Word 2013 and was unable to print it. I also have Office 2013 and the document exhibits the same behavior for me. In Word 2013, it will not print. I have done the following: 1 AppPath=C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office15\WINWORD.EXE ReportDescription=A problem caused this program to stop interacting with Windows.
Is it just one particular document with which you have the problem? If you send me a copy of the original document, I will try and determine the cause of the problem.
IE 11 Crashes in mshtml.dll at 0x00438410
All my add-ons have been disabled, even those that dont require my acceptance.. The only way to get it partially working again is remove the IE11 feature, reboot and add the feature again and do yet an other reboot - but after a while the problem comes back... I have included 3 things that are commonly asked about: 1) The event log entry 2) The WEP report Thanks for hanging in there and hopefully you can help me figure out what the h*ll is going on as this is driving me nuts.. /Stig
Forgot to mention, all MS patches have been applied, that was in fact the very very first thing i did. /Stig
Hi Stig, I can understand the inconvenience caused to you. Ap preciate the time taken by you in providing all the details about the issue. Let me help you with this. The error message may occur if you are using a different version of Mshtml.dll. An incorrect version of this dynamic-link library (DLL) can cause an access violation. I would like to know; Thanks & Regards, Isha Soni
I find it odd that I have this identical problem on 4 computers since upgrading to W10. MS likes to point to other causes (third party programs, things WE did to change the configuration) however this appears to be far to widespread and consistently problematic. It is very clear that MS wants us to use Edge and perhaps is investing less resources into fixing IE however EDGE still isn't ready for prime time and is incompatible with too may web sites, so for now, even if you do use EDGE you still need an alternative. Let's get IE fixed?
Hi Isha Thanks for picking up this one... much appericiated Firstly - let go though your questions 1) Do i have any third party security installed? - I have only Avast Antivirus (free edition) - at some point it installed a toolbar, something like a pricechecker thingy - which i have removed - havnt tried that, mostly because i was able to get IE to work for a short while.. But right now IE is working again after i ran the troubleshooter.. will revert if the problem occurs again
Hi Stig, Thank you for keeping us updated with the status of the issue. I appreciate your efforts in resolving the issue. I am glad that the given suggestions helped. In future, if you have issues related to Windows, please feel free to write us and we will be glad to help you. ____________________ Thanks & Regards, Isha Soni

An OpenXML document with embedded Alternative Format chunk crashes (with smart tags inside)
Hi, I am creating Word documents programmatically and I have come across a weird document that causes MS Word to crash. I run MS Office Professional Plus 2010, version 14.0.6112.5000 (64 bits). I use Open XML SDK 2 Productivity Tool to open and compare the files. Steps to reproduce: AppName=Microsoft Word AppPath=C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\WINWORD.EXE
Further to my post above, one of the differences between chunk30 and chunk31 is in the file /word/settings.xml contained in chunk30.docx, which seem to cause a crash. It has the following lines:
maybe because smart tags are no longer supported?
OLE DB Provider for Visual FoxPro 9.0 crashes Excel 2013
I downloaded and installed the msi from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=14839 onto my Windows 7 computer. I started Excel 2013, click Data > Get External Data > From Other Sources > From Data Connection Wizard > Other/Advanced > Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Visual FoxPro. Excel crashes when I click Next with the message "A problem has caused Microsoft Excel to stop working." Here is the debugging information. If I am reading this right, this is a 32-bit provider that doesn't like my 64-bit system. How do I fix that? Systematic crash of Oulook 2013 on W8 on IMAP email account
Hi, I am fighting with Oulook 2013 (x86) a long time to know why I cannot make it work on the email account of my wife. Outlook 2013 is set up and up to date, installed on my W8 x86 PC and on my email account and it is working properly. On the second windows account, when I setup Outlook email profile to the same IMAP server but my wife's email account, Outlook 2013 crashes at the end of the synch. It is systematic even if the account does not contain ANY email. AppName=Microsoft Outlook AppPath=D:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15\OUTLOOK.EXE
Hello, Thank you for your reply. Outlook 2013 with your email account is working fine, it’s only your wife’s email account which is not working in Outlook due to the account compatibility issue. You may take a backup of all the inbox and important folders data for the email account (wife’s account) and ask your Email Service Provider to reset the account and check if it works fine as expected. I hope the above information helps. Let us know if you need further assistance. Thank you.
Hello, If you have the setting to configure the email account as POP, you may configure the same in Outlook and check if your wife’s email account works fine as expected. Note: ensure to check the option leave a copy of message on the server which would leave a copy on the If it works fine as expected, let’s create a test Outlook.com account and configure the email account as IMAP on your wife’s user account and check if it works fine. If the email account works as expected, you may get in touch with the email service provider/Internet service provider and explain the same about the email account. I hope the above information helps. Let us know if you need further assistance. Thank you.
Thanks Raju. Why do you think I should contact my provider and explain him that Outlook 2013 crashes because it donesn't correctly handles something when retrieving emails on IMAP? I posted my question on Microsoft's site because Outlook is a MS product... Anyway, thanks for the workaround.
Hello, Thank you for your reply. Since Outlook.com as IMAP is working and the same account is working as POP, as mentioned in the previous post you may get in touch with the email service provider/Internet service provider and explain the same about the email account. I hope the above information helps. Let us know if you need further assistance. Thank you.
Thanks Raju for yous answer. I tried to use POP3 and there is no problem (no more crashes). Her IMAP account works correctly with W8 Mail (but this email client is really too limited to be used) It is working with Outlook.com IMAP account and it is also working with my account on IMAP with the same provider . I can conclude that Outlook 2013 done not like my wife ;) (Outlook 2013 is the only email client that does not work with this provider on my wife account) Thanks

Hi, Do you face document attachment issue only with gmail? Uninstall the sound drivers and restart the computer. Let Windows install the generic drivers and then see if it helps you to fix the issue. A. Open Device Manager by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Device Manager. B. I f you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. C. Look for the Sound, video and game controller, expand it, right click on the sound device and select Uninstall. D. Reboot the computer. I'm surprised nobody recommended getting the latest audio drivers from you PC/laptop maker's website. One thing though, did you recently up grade to W7 ? If yes from what, and what is the make, name and model number of your PC ? Cheers Jerry

Error: sxs.dll: syntax error in manifest or policy file.
I want to reinstall Windows XP. During the CD boot setup, I did a quick format of NTFS, then the install proceeded. Then I encountered the error: Windows XP. Error: sxs.dll: syntax error in manifest or policy file "D:\I386\asms\6000\MSFT\VCRTL\VCRTL.MAN" on line 11. Installation failed: D:\I386\asms. Error message: incorrect function. This CD has successfully rebuilt another PC - we have a corporate license. Does this indicate a CD-ROM hardware issue?
Hi SRD75, Try the below methods: Method 1: Try if you are able to replace the CD Rom drive or if you can arrange for an external CD rom and proceed with the installation. Method 2: Run memory diagnostic tool and check the results. Link you may refer to: Windows Memory Diagnostic: http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp#top Method 3: I would recommend you to perform complete format of the hard drive to rule out possibility of a bad sector or physical damage on the hard drive Regards: Samhrutha G S - Microsoft Support. Constant error message 0xc000012f - WeatherBug.exe - Bad image
Hello, Welcome to Microsoft Community Forum. Thank you for providing a detailed information on your issue I appreciate your efforts towards resolving the issue. I understand that you are getting a constant error message 0xc000012f related to WeatherBug.exe - Bad image. This issue can be caused due to third-party application conflict, corrupted Weather app or corrupted user account. However, let’s try to identify the actual cause and troubleshoot accordingly. I would suggest you to try the following methods: Method 1: Boot the computer in a clean boot state and try to uninstall the Weather app. Clean boot helps to check if any third party application is causing the issue, as clean boot helps in eliminating software conflicts. Microsoft XP professional installation disk seems to be faulty
I have a microsoft XP installation disc and found it will not load XP professional on my desktop machine without stopping with only 39 minutes from finish. "An error has been encountered that prevents set up from continuing. One of the components that windows needs to continue setup can not be installed. Data error (cyclic redundancy check) SXS.DLL: Syntax error in manifold or policy file. "F:\I386\asms\10\MSFT\WINDOWS\GDIPLUS\GDIPLUS.MAN" on line 4."
That data error (CRC) is encountered by either the harddrive or the disc during installation of an OS. You could run chkdsk/r at the command prompt on the harddrive to recover it (by choosing R instead of hitting Enter when you are about to reinstall the OS by booting from the disc) or get a replacement OS disc from your computer manufacturer if that disc comes with your computer.
Recovery Console Problem
I am running Windows XP Professional and trying to use the Recovery Console to repair my system which got slower and slower and finally froze. On rebooting the system refuses to go beyond the initial Select Profile stage. How do I disable silent update installations from Windows?
I am just going to post my whole problem but basically I found out that it is a Windows "feature" and I would like to turn it off. I constantly get tabbed out of games and after a couple years of this and many google attempts later, I found a program called Window Focus Tracker that lets me see what window currently has focus. I found that every time something got minimized there was a Winrar self-extracting silent installer running and the process ID is different each time. The PID does not correspond to any processes I can see under Windows Task Manager either otherwise I would have just disabled that program. How can I disable these or just make Windows not minimize my games anymore? I don't have Winrar installed, by the way and it's not a virus, I've checked. Turning off all updates did not stop the problem.
Hello, Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community. I would appreciate, if you can provide us the following information to help us understand the issue better? Are you trying to disable automatic updates? You can set Windows to automatically install important and recommended updates or to install important updates only. If you don't want updates to be installed automatically, you can choose to be notified when updates apply to your computer instead. Then, you can download and install them yourself, or you can set Windows to automatically download updates, and then notify you so you can install them yourself. I would suggest you to follow the article given below to c hange how Windows installs or notifies you about updates. Refer: Change how Windows installs or notifies you about updates WinRAR is a file utility used to compress redundant strings of code, thereby reducing the file size. There is a possibility that this program might got installed without your notification. I
I turned off automatic updates so I will see if that changes anything. Like I said before, I don't have Winrar installed.
Installation error: cyclic redundancy check
I'm using a WinXP build disk to install XP onto a tower PC. After doing a full NTFS format, and during the installation process, an error pops up saying: SXS.dll: Syntax error in manifest or policy file d:\i386\asms\10\MSFT\windows\gdiplus\gdiplus.man on line 4 Error: installation failed D:\i386\asms Error message: Data error (cyclic redundancy check) The CD has been used many times before without any issue. Any ideas if this is a disk issue, or hardware issue? The PC had a working OS before format, so the internal HDD is fine.
I replaced the CD-ROM drive and the installation proceeded without error.
Hi Srd75 Hello. Were you interested in helping me, or dating me for my money?
Hi SRD75, A "Data error (cyclic redundancy check)" usually occurs when the disc is scratched up or the CD-ROM is faulty. Follow the steps listed in the article below to fix this issue: Setup repeatedly stops and restarts in Windows XP
Win XP installation - fatal error
I am doing a complete reinstall of windows xp on a desktop computer - deleting everything on the hard disk & starting from scratch. Win XP had become very unstable but the system had been working fine otherwise. I was well into the install process when I received the following fatal error message Fatal Error An error has been encountered that prevents Setup from continuing. One of the components that Windows needs to continue setup could not be installed. Data error (cyclic redundance check). If you are installing form a CD there might be a problem with the disc; try cleaning the disk or using another disc. In the Setup log file is the next message: Error: SXS.DLL: Syntax error in manifest or policy file "D:\I386\asms\1000\MSFT\WINDOWS\GDIPLUS\GDIPLUS.MAN"on line 4. I followed the instructions given here - http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/xpinstall/thread/baf7233b-740b-4b67-a6e9-0bd1e6e68234 - to boot to the Windows CD, restart setup & choose Repair a Windows XP install
Boot from the winxp cd, delete all partitions, reboot, restart the installation That is exactly what I have done - several times - or attempted at any rate. I select the Drive with the Win XP CD as boot device, then setup restarts - every time, - many, many times. The CD drive light flashes for a bit, then setup restarts without giving any options . The message "setup is being restarted" is displayed, yet again, and it goes through the whole error procedure again. What I did was to insert my WIN 98SE Start Up Floppy and let XP Pro restart. I'm not sure what went on or if the missing I386 file was on the floppy disk, but the XP Pro program hit the floppy and the rest of the install went as normal. Hope this may help.

BUMPing in desperate hopes of some sort of reply or assistance. I have discovered (after hours of searching) a couple of things to try but cannot even attempt them until I can prevent the endless, apparently unbreakable loop of the install/setup process. Please, Please, Please - the computer is completely unuseable as it is - How can I prevent setup from restarting after each reboot? Then, at least I can access the hard drive and try something else

Hi Charlesfisher, Check your windows xp installation CD, maybe it has scratch marks or damaged. Hope this helps.
Hi, Are you trying to install windows Xp on a sata drive? You will first have to configure BIOS of your computer. Start your computer enter BIOS (Normally its del button on keyboard, can be F1, F2 or F10 depending upon you r computer) Read what it says while you get manufacture logo or refer your hardware manual. Now in BIOS, somewhere under drive opearation or Sata Operation you will have to select Legacy mode or compatibility mode. Now try install windows XP. You may also try refer: http://www.ehow.com/how_4966482_install-xp-sata-hard-drive.html on how to install windows XP on SATA Drive. Hope this helps.
Have tried several install discs, thanks for that attempt at support though... I have even tried repartitioning the drive, reformatting the drive, and removing the cmos battery. All attempts have left me crashing at the same install point with the same error. I even bought a new Hard Drive and same thing...

Microsoft no longer supports, nor does it, offer Windows XP. However, I have had some luck with reviving scratched disks in the past by using a very soft lint free cloth and (believe this or not) a car polish called NuFinish. It has a very mild abrasive and works well for me. Just do not rub hard. and use in a circular motion from the middle of the disk outward.

Windows File Protection pop up message - annoying!!!
I keep getting a pop up "WINDOWS FILE PROTECTION" asking me to insert my original windows home edition service pack 3 CD - I've had hundreds of message over the past month since I changed my browser and went to McAfee for security. Some of the messages in the event log are included below, and when I go to the micro soft website for solutions I then get the following message: HELP!!!! Hello Shane Francis, Thank you for asking the Question! Sorry to know that you face issues with popup message . As I get it right you get an error message WINDOWS FILE PROTECTION. Perform SFC(System File Checker) scan and see if the issue occurs. Description of Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 System File Checker (Sfc.exe) Reply to us if you face any issues with the pop up message or any other Windows Issue, and I would be glad to assist you again and try to rectify the issue as early as possible. Have a nice day! Hope this information helps.
If you do not have a genuine bootable XP installation CD of the same Service Pack as your installed version and Service Pack (most people don't), sfc /scannow is going to complain - alot (as you can see). These Microsoft engaged Support Engineer and Forum Moderator "experts" are keen to suggest it, but never tell you the pitfalls or requirements and I have pointed out to them numerous times their follies when they do. The System file Checker is not a great tool for troubleshooting. It is a great tool to waste your time and frustrate you (as you can see). Even if you run sfc /scannow and you have everything you need and it runs clean as a whistle, you will not know if it did anything or not when you re done. There will be no log of what it did or didn't do - all you will know is that it started and ended. Suggesting it is akin to saying "I have no idea what the problem is or how to fix it". Those other instructions you pasted from Marc Liron may have been good 4.5 years ago or they mi
non-functional XP Pro CD (evaluation copy for students of official MS 70-720 course)
I am currently studying for the 70-270 exam. An evaluation copy of XP Pro was packaged with the MS textbook and lab manual. I installed XP Pro on my home computer (XP Home) for dual boot...worked fine... The volume to which I installed it, however, was too small to recreate the virtual network via vmWare Server (MS Server 2003 and two XP pro machines) we were using at school, so I deleted the small partition and tried to re-install XP Pro on a bigger one, but it doesn't work... I've been thinking that maybe I am allowed to install the evaluation copy only once... Anyway... After the computer reboots, I get an "Incorrect Function" error more precisely... I recently purchased Windows 7 ultimate 64-bit. My computer has two hard drives; the one that came with my computer had Vista; the second was pulled out of an old computer had an XP upgrade from Win Millenium. I recently purchased Windows 7 ultimate. I installed Win 7 over XP (the old drive) as a "clean install" without any difficulty. I liked Win 7, but the old drive didn't have any space for it, plus Win 7 wouldn't run my legacy programs. So I installed Win 7 over Vista (the new drive), again without any difficulty, and then set about re-installing XP over the first Win 7 installation on the old drive, again a clean install. It was here that I enountered difficulty. In the initial phase, I was told that five xml files would not install: cmnicfg, ipcfg, osinfo, potscfg, and pppcfg. Then, after the first reboot, the installer needed the installation disk to look in the L:\I386\asms. But when it attempted to read it, it gave the error above: "Error: SXS.DLL Syntax error in ma
