CBS.log gives error failed to load SxsStore.dll, failed to initialize SxS., Failed to start upload with file pattern
Hello, So I'm trying to repair my friend's computer. He hasn't created any backup, it won't let me just replace the windows files, and he doesn't want to lose what he has on there. The computer gets through BIOS fine, but shows black screen and disconnected usb's afterwards. When I try to launch onto safemode, the mouse and keyboard disconnect. So I am currently doing everything through the CMD on a repair disk (through a flashdrive). I have gone through the full sfc stuff, and got the response that it couldn't fix some of the files. I opened the CBS.log by copying it to a text file and opened that. Here's the output: CBS Starting TrustedInstaller initialization. CBS Transactions disabled in registry, continuing without transaction support. CBS Ending TrustedInstaller finalization. Now that I have gotten that log file, what do I do to fix this computer?
Devin, I have the exact same issue and it looks like the same log output from he sfc scan, including it not loading SxsStore.dll etc. I have an unbuntu disc here, so I wanted to try your fix, but I'm not clear on exactly which files you replaced on the problem PC. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Hi Devin, There are some System Files that are not getting replaced or fixed by the System File Checker scan. Here in this scenario, you will have to perform a repair installation. Performing a repair installation will restore the current Windows installation to the version of the installation DVD. This also requires the installation of all updates that are not included on the installation DVD. This step is the final alternative before you have to reinstall the operating system. To perform this process you need to have Windows 7 Installation disc. Refer to the following Microsoft Support article to perform In-Place upgrade/Repair Installation of Windows 7. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2255099/en-us Note : Performing a repair installation will not damage files and applications that are currently installed on your computer. Please reply with the status of the issue so that we can help you better.
Hi Devin, Thank you for replying with the status of the issue. In situation, you will have to re-install Windows 7 on your computer. If the repair installation did not help, it means that there are files which can't be repaired without re-installation of Windows. You may refer to the following Microsoft Help article to re-install Windows on your computer. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/installing-reinstalling-windows#1TC=windows-7 Note : Make sure that you have taken backup of the data successfully. Please reply with the status of the issue so that we can help you fix the issue.

Any help is greatly appreciated! I didn't replace any files on the problem pc, I ended up doing a full wipe and reinstall of windows. I used the ubuntu disk to save all the files on the HDD to an external. Other than doing a full reinstall, I couldn't figure out a way to fix the pc.
OK thanks for that info; I'm pretty much on the verge of doing a reinstall as well. :/ CHEERS
Hi, I have tried the repair installation through both the repair disc and the normal installation disk, along with trying the upgrade. Neither worked. We figured a workaround though. Installed Ubuntu install onto a USB, ran it using the "Try Ubuntu" and pulled off all the files an external. Thanks!

We'll need to do a general troublehooting to see if we can identify and resolve the problem. You need to create a recovery disk (borrow a friend's computer if necessary). Can you boot into safe mode or do you get the same error? Does the task manager option always work and once in are you booted normally with only the problems you outlined? Do you know when this problem began? Try a System Restore to a point in time BEFORE the problem began. Here's the procedure: Good luck! Is system restore to factory settings only option ! Why I am getting hash mismatch error for even new files that I copied over ? thanks!
- Above CBS.log extract, sfcdetails points to 3 files as being corrupted - Did perform system restore. Problem still persists. - I have norton antivirus 2010 on my computer, it does not report any malwares as being present. - crtl+Alt+del always works to access task manager after logging into one of the 3 accounts on the system. From there I can execute explorer. - I restored back old corrupt files and restarted the system and logged into administrator account. From here I was able to create 3 recovery discs. I will try chkdsk /f /r and let you know the outcome. thanks!
sfc /scannow points to 3 files as being corrupt. I thought by replacing these files it would resolve the issue. How do I replace the files in winsxs directory ? thanks!
A Stackhash is when windows cannot determine the file where the crash is. -- .. -- "skrk1" wrote in message news:2b9af55f-2354-44a8-9510-6ffc5c247b79... > Is system restore to factory settings only option ! > > Why I am getting hash mismatch error for even new files that I copied over > ? > > thanks! >
You can't make changes to winsxs - it is a blocked fiolder even from Administrators (and should not be modified even if a way around the permissions is identified). I'm afraid the only options are installations. Preferably, we'll need to do a system repair/upgrade using the genuine Windows Vista Installation Disk (one you own or one you can borrow from ANYONE and you also need to be ablle to boot normally to do this). Here's the procedure: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/88236-repair-install-vista.html . Although this will not affect your data, settings, or programs, you should still backup your data before starting just to be on the safe side. You may have a lot of updates to re-install (including any service packs you had to remove). If the version on the system came with SP1 or SP2 pre-installed and the disk is an earlier version, then you'll need to make a slipstream disk as follows: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/151606-vista-sp1-slipstream-installation-dvd.html . If that
I performed chkdsk /f /r still no success. Is restoring it to factory settings the only option. How do I make the files have same hash?? Window 7 64 bit - Cannot repair following files after scan
Trying to install windows 10. Did filescan and the following files cannot be repaired... "msdtcprf.h" "smallee.fon" "sxsstore.dll" "virtdisk.dll" "mcglidhostobj.dll" "hhctrl.ocx" I've done a full disc scan and there are no viruses. Can you help? many thanks D
Yes free Windows update version. I ran the scan software from another link on Microsoft site. Full scan took about 9 hrs and No infected files. Have always ran anti-virus.
Assuming Win7 64-bit with Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) installed... We'll need to "dig a little deeper" here. Please answer each of the following [admittedly tedious] diagnostic questions already installed!
Trying to install windows 10... Is the free Win10 Upgrade being offered via Windows Update or are you attempting to upgrade manually via the Media Creation Tool & ISO? How have you determined that the Win7 computer is not infected?
