What is the make and model number of the computer? Did Windows come preinstalled on it?
To access the System Recovery Environment in Windows 7, simply boot your PC, just before the system loads the Windows operating system; hit the [F8] Function 8 key on your keyboard which will launch the Advanced Boot Options menu. There you will see a new option 'Repair Your Computer', select this option and hit 'Enter' on your keyboard. If the problem persist, try booting into Safe Mode, boot your PC, just before the system loads the Windows operating system; hit the [F8] Function 8 key on your keyboard which will launch the Advanced Boot Options menu. Select Safe Mode. If that does not work, try the following: Method 1: =============== 9. Type Drive:\boot\Bootsect.exe /NT60 All, and then press ENTER. Note: In this command, Drive is the drive where the Windows 7 installation media is located.
gateway. The thing is that my son did used it without my consent and I am trying to fix it before my husband gets home on saturday.
I cant boot my pc, and i cant find the installation cd. Any other option?? I have no ideia where the cd might be. I cant boot my PC either and I don't have the CD, but I do have my PK. Is there some place I cant download an ISO for it? I don't want to have to buy win XP when its going out of support cycle and I just need to recover some file from the hard drive.
Judging from your last replies, it would probably be best to leave it alone and let your husband deal with it when he gets home. Anything you try might make things worse than they already are and you could lose important files that your husband doesn't want to lose. Not only that, your husband may know what to do to take care of it.
I used method 3.. i am dual booting windows 7 and 8 but now win7 works fine but 8 only boots in safe mode

Windows 7 winload.exe error 0x0000428
I have installed vista and seven in dual boot.I installed vista with seven being previously. The bootmgr was missing,so I used visual BCD to repair it and then windows 7 disappeared from boot screen.I used Easy BCD to create a new entry for in the boot screen using the drive in which it was installed. Now when i tried to get in I get the following error. Due to some recent hardware change blah blah blah........................ File:\Windows\System32\winload.exe Status:0xc0000428 Info:Windows cant verify the digital signature for this file. They say to use F8,but on pressing F8 I get the same screen.I can only access the seven when I have a bootable seven dvd in my dvd drive.I then again installed seven but the same problem is still there.I tried to use the repair option in seven dvd but it said it had repaired some problems and then restarted without any solution. What should I do? Give me a detailed yet easy to follow solution...
Hi, This issue can occur if the bootloader cannot find Windows 7 boot sector or boot files. Follow these steps: In Vista, open an elevated command prompt, Type( or copy and paste these if you like). cd /d f:\windows\system32 then press enter bcdboot f:\windows /s c: then press enter. Close command prompt. Restart the pc. See this link - http://www.sevenforums.com/installation-setup/30572-problem-dualboot-vista-7-winload-exe-error-2.html
Hi Stefan2012, You can use the tool "Dual-boot Repair" that comes with Visual BCD . It is a 32-bit app and runs on XP, Vista and later. "Automatic Repair" option chooses and installs the latest Windows NT6 boot environment (Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8). For manual repair some knowledge is needed. One cannot expect not to run into errors if there is no idea what is going on using system tools. System tools are for advanced users !
ram problem RAM SELECK NO PROBLEM
I have already answered to the same post on www.sevenforums.com some hours ago. The problem is that the boot environment has been mixed up - some of the files are from Vista others from Windows 7. The parameter for the root of the operating system must be the root of Windows 7 ! so the command should be: bcdboot
And what if your vista is 32 bit and other systems are 64 bit, I get error in cmd that it's not compatible. My other systems are windows 7 and windows 8 in 64 bit mode
how to fix missing or corrupt winload.exe in windows 8
hi..i am having problem in the recovery option of the windows 8.i says winload.exe is missing. what to do ? note:i don't have recovery cd
Hi Chandan, I see that you have problems with recovery option in Windows 8. I will help you with this issue. 1. What is the make and model of the computer? 2. Which security software is installed on the computer? 3. Did you make any changes to the computer recently? In Windows 8 use File History : Repair & recovery http://windows.microsoft.com/is-IS/windows/repair-recovery-help#repair-recovery-help=windows-8 Hope it helps. For any further Windows related assistance, feel free to contact us and we will be happy to help.
What if there isn't am option to run the repair utility because you aren't able to boot the drive and the recovery disk wont allow you to run the refresh because you have to load HDD drivers (PCIE SSD) before you can do anything with the windows install disk? Basically, the only option I have when using the install disk is to go to custom install and "Load Drivers" and then do a custom install. My Win8 drive doesn't show up until I click load drivers. All I want to do is use the Recover - refresh option. Thanks. (From what I have gathered is this is a shortcoming in the windows 8 repair tool, it looks like someone forgot to add the ability to load HDD drivers prior to running the recovery tools, this is a very poor oversight)

Hello. Let's look into this concern. Have you tried the steps provided by Kate Li in this Support article ? Try them and let us know if it helps.
Yes it does. I did everything possible to fix and my PC is still broken.
Contacted Answer Desk but they did not reply.
Hi, If the issue still persists even after the troubleshooting steps you've done, we suggest that you contact Answer Desk through this link .
If you think Automatic Repair helps fix the problem, you are 100% wrong because it only returns a blue screen or "Startup Repair couldn't detect a problem" message, making it completely helpless, pointless, and a waste of time because it changes nothing. I really want to see if there is any other stuff that will help fix that superannoying 0xc0000225 winload error. And it is much more serious because it is winload.exe that is missing so that it can't even try to load the data from winload.efi.
Hello, To isolate the issue, when did you start experiencing this? Have you done any recent changes on your device prior to the issue? Also, what troubleshooting steps have you done so far? Regards.
Don't forget to put the solution to the problem in your answer. It does require Windows 10 recovery media. I have no recovery media, I will use the installation media, and choose repair your computer. What must I do to fix this problem?
Hello, To isolate the issue, when did you start experiencing this? Have you done any recent changes on your device prior to the issue? Also, what troubleshooting steps have you done so far? Regards. Actually, I have run Automatic Repair and Startup Repair. Both didn't work. I tried system restore. No restore points were there. System image recovery. No system images. Go back to previous build. Cannot go back to previous build. Refresh your PC. There was a problem. Reset your PC. A required drive partition is missing. Command prompt, and diskpart, to fix the drive partition problem. Still not help. Command prompt to restore system file / SFC. Failed. Startup settings > safe mode. Still did not fix the problem. I did NOT do any changes so I'm assuming that I kept shutting down the Surface Pro 3 the wrong way. I didn't do it. It was my PC doing that because first it was not responding, then it was shut down to protect data, until the file got corrupt, while the system was writing data to
I did every single fix but my computer still halts at the error Sounds like a BCD problem. Does your statement include that repair?

Winload.exe corrupt or missing
Yesterday i did a system refresh which failed, i then did a system reset, that failed. I then ran diagnostics and got a message saying File:\\windows\system32\winload.exe Was missing or corrupt. I do not have windows disc as it was preinstalled on my laptop. If i were to buy a copy of windows 8, will i be able to install it if this file is corrupt ? Windows 10 OS
Thank you 1. Laptop was running slow 2. Windows 8 was preinstalled abd activated prior to upgrade to windows 10 (upgrade was installed on day of release) 3. Windows diagnostic tool.
Hi, To better understand the query, please answer the following questions: 1. Are you facing any specific issues that requires you to reset or refresh the computer? 2. Was windows 10 activated after you upgraded to Windows 10? 3. What exactly is the "diagnostics" that you are referring to? Do get back to us with more details about the issue for further assistance.
Hi, Sorry for the delay in replying. Some system files and settings might be broken or corrupt. Suggest you to repair your copy of Windows and check if that helps. Hi steven111, You may try to rebuild BCD store by following the below steps and see if that can resolve the issue. Before you follow the steps mentioned, make sure you backup your data. winload.exe corrupt error on Windows 7 installaton
Just put together a new PC and was in the process of installing Windows 7 (a digital download) and I got an invalid key prompt when entering the key given to me. Figured I might have selected the wrong version at install so I restarted the PC (at the enter key window) and at restart I got the winload.exe corrupt problem that several people have described. I restarted once more and got the same error. After reading around I tried re-burning the ISO at a slower speed and it didn't help. At this point I turned off RAID (had installed on a RAID 0 volume) and after a couple more restarts I got through to the Windows install process. When I re-enable RAID I get the winload error 100% of the time but when it is off I get it about 50% of the time, sometimes I can get through to the install.
Hi carze, Welcome to Microsoft Answers. To assist you in solving the issue you will have to answer a question as - Are you able to view the hard disks in the RAID BIOS? If you are not able to view them in the RAID BIOS then the issue remains with the driver. Then in this case you will have to install the right driver to resolve the issue. You can also try and connect one RAID drive, then install Windows 7; after the installation is done you can connect the other drive and check if it works. Hope this helps. Let us know the results. Windows 10 winload.exe error 0xc000000f
All, When starting up my PC I get a blue screen with an error message stating that the file \windows\system32\winload.exe is missing or contains errors. The error code is 0xc000000f. It is asking me to insert the installation media, however I don't have this as I have upgraded to Windows 10 online. Furthermore, I have noticed a severe decline in performance since Windows automatically updated 4 days ago. It now takes hours to start up my computer whilst this used to take 1-2 minutes (updates of 8 October 2015). How can I get Windows 10 working again? Your help is much appreciated! Best, Wouter
Dear Syed, Thanks for your reply. I have attempted to install Windows 10 from the Installation Disk, as described in your previous post. During the instalation process I get the following error message: 'Windows cannot install required files. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code: 0x8007045D'. What steps can I take to fully install Windows 10? Thanks for your help. Kind regards, Wouter

You may try to download Windows 10 again and install it on your PC. You may refer to the article mentioned below for downloading Windows 10. Download Windows 10 Let us know the results. Dear Jayant, Thanks for your response. Since my last response I have copied my last files to USB and now want to install a clean version of Windows 10, using the disk I have created. When I attempt to reinstall Windows, under recovery options and choose to keep my files and settings, I get an error message saying there is a partition error. When I attempt to install Windwos 10 from the root menu of the installation disk, I am asked for a serial number. Is it okay for me to enter my Windows 7 serial number at this point? Or do I skip this step? Please help, it is much appreciated! Kind regards, Wouter
Hi Divya, Thanks for your quick response and support. I have completed the steps that you have outlined in your response, however I have been unable to repair the system. When I attempt to perform the Repair on this computer, I have followed steps a through c. However, when I click on 'Advanced options', the option 'Automatic repair' is not visible. The options that are visible are shown in the screenshot below. When I attempt to repair perform a 'Startup repair', I get the error message that this option is not supported (as shown in the below screenshots). What steps could I take to get Windows working? I appreciate your help. Best regards, Wouter
Dear Jayant, Thanks for your help so far. Unfortunately, following the steps you indicated in your previous message, has not resolved the issue. I am now getting a similar error message, this time with the code 0x000000e9. During the process you described, I also got a funny error message. When I performed the Bootrec /rebuildbcd in DOS, it completed with the error message that there are 0 OS installed on the system. It seems best to me if I do a clean install of Windows 10. Before I do this with the installation disk that I have burned as suggested in Divya's post above, I would like to know if there is any way I can move a dozen or so documents from the C:\users\myname\My Documents folder to an external USB drive. Is there any way to do this in DOS? Or are these files locked? Your help with this issue is truly appreciated. Kind regards, Wouter
Hi, Thank you for your response. I would like to inform you that, once your device upgrades to Windows 10 using the free upgrade offer and activates online automatically, an entitlement is registered to your PC’s hardware for the edition of Windows 10 you upgraded to in the Windows 10 Activation service. So you can upgrade or reinstall Windows 10 anytime on your computer. If you have already upgrade to Windows 10, you may skip this step. However, you cannot manually enter the previous Operating System product key to activate Windows 10. You may refer the follow help article and check if it helps. Hi, Sorry for the inconvenience caused. Based on the issue description I can understand that you are getting a yellow screen on startup. This might happen because of the graphics card loading the drivers slowly or error while loading the content. Safe mode is a diagnostic mode where windows loads with minimal set of drivers and all the third party application will be disabled, in other words windows loads in VGA mode in safe mode and it will not use graphic drivers in safe mode. Hence I would suggest you to try going in to Safe mode with networking and see if the issue persists. If not I would suggest you uninstall and reinstall the graphics card driver and see if it helps. Please follow the steps below to uninstall: 1. Right Click on Start , Select Device Manager. 2. Find and double-click the category of device whose driver you wish to uninstall, the graphics card would be listed under Display Adapters. 3. Right - click the device, and click Uninstall . 4.Windows will prompt you to co

Dear Sahil, Thanks for your help. I have created a new install disk and managed to complete the Windows 10 installation. At the end of the installation, the message "please restart your computer in order to complete installation" appeared. I pressed on "okay" to restart. Since then, whenever I start up the PC I get a yellow screen. Please see the attached screenshot for more information. I can still boot from the installation CD, but can no longer start Windows normally. Thanks for your help so far, and hope you can assist further! Kind regards, Wouter

When I boot my computer (running Windows 7 Ultimate) I get a black screen telling me that "File: Windows\system32\winload.exe is missing or corrupt" and that I should use my system recovery disc. I don't have a system recovery disc and pressing F8 does nothing. Is there anything I could do to restore my data?
Contrary to what you might think, I backed up most of my data. Unfortunately I've been very busy lately and haven't gotten around to backing up some pretty important stuff. Anyway, pressing F8 took me right back to the error screen. I already tried it.
As I said, I don't have an installation CD/DVD. Would buying one be an option at all or do I have to format it and attempt to recover data after formatting? Do not under any circumstances format the disk before retrieving the data! Did you consider asking a friend to burn a Repair CD for you? If you tell me whether you have a 32-bit or a 64-bit machine then I'll upload a copy of this file to the cloud. Whether it will work I do not know because it's in German instead of English.
Pressing F8 took me right back to the error screen. I already tried it. The next option consists of booting the machine with a Windows 7 Repair CD or Installation DVD. Again it lets you invoke System Restore but it does not require a password. Unfortunately it has to be a Windows 7 CD or DVD. As I said, I don't have an installation CD/DVD. Is there anything I could do to restore my data? -> Your question suggests that you belong to the very large group of people who defer the implementation of a robust backup scheme until they suffer a major disaster. On this occasion you're safe. Your data can be retrieved even if Windows refuses to boot up. If System Restore is active on your machine then you can use it to restore the missing file. Tap F8 rapidly at boot time, then boot Windows into Windows Repair Mode. Now use System Restore to set Windows back to a point when it worked as it should.

winload.exe - Windows cannot verify the digital signature for this file - 0xc0000428
Recently, I had SMART errors start on my laptop HDD. If figured it was time to upgrade to an SSD. I mirrored my HDD to the SSD. This was an upgraded Windows 7 to Windows 10 installation and was not the latest available when I mirrored. I was then unable to boot. I then set my primary partition flag and set it active on the Windows install partition. At this point, it came up and told me: File: \Windows\system32\winload.exe Status: 0xc0000428 Info: Windows cannot verify the digital signature for this file. Based on all the research I have done, the following has been performed: Bootrec /fixmbr --> Successful Bootrec /fixboot --> Access Denied Bootrec /nt60 All /force --> Successful Bootrec /rebuildbcd --> Successful I renamed \windows\system32\winload.exe to winload.back and copied the winload.exe from the restore DVD which was the same size, but OLDER than the one in the drives windows directory, but same issue. It tells me to press
Hi, It has been a while. We'd like to check on you if you are still experiencing the issue. If so, you can insert your installation disc or recovery drive and select Repair your computer from the options. If the issue persists, see if you can select System Restore. Reinstalling Windows 10 should affect your license. Since it was upgraded from Windows 7, it should have a digital entitlement which should be linked to your Microsoft Account. Same goes with your Office license. Check these articles for your reference: Activation in Windows 10 . Download and install or reinstall Office 365 or Office 2016 on a PC or Mac . Download and install or reinstall Office 2013 on a PC . With regard to other third party licensed applications, you may inquire about it from the software developers. Let us know how it goes.
And now you know why even John McAfee has disowned McAfee. 😒
One more thing, based on my research. This does have licensed McAfee installed on it.
Let us know how it goes. Well, I needed to use my laptop this past week, so I reinstalled the old HDD. Unfortunately, the HDD died and I had to just clean install Windows 10 onto the SSD. I purchased a Windows 10 license from NewEgg to be done with it. Thanks for the suggestions, but I try not to post until I have performed all possible fixes I can find. My plan was to uninstall McAfee and copy the partition over again to see if that would fix the access denied issue, as, I feel sure it would have been the issue. Most people report that the Bootrec commands fix their issue. Also, I didn't state it above, but the "Repair my computer" option couldn't even find a copy of Windows to attempt to fix. This is odd, in my book, as the Windows 10 install informed me there was a copy of Windows which would be renamed to Windows.old. Since there were no drivers needed in order to access the HDD, I feel fairly sure it was Anti-virus having locked out the bootrec /bootfix command. I did con

Boot error: status: 0xc000000f - winload.exe missing or corrupt
I seem to have encountered a problem that a number of people have come across. It started when I was away from my computer and hit "Lock this computer" while I was away, as I often do. When I came back a couple hours later I logged back in and tried to open Firefox. Nothing happened, I hit ctrl+alt+del and it didn't come up. I waited and about thirty seconds later the screen came up with all the options (lock this computer, start task manager, etc.) and I opened task manager to see if Firefox was running and it wasn't. I closed task manager and went to restart my computer from the start menu but I couldn't. I don't exactly remember what happened at that point, but I do know I ended up having to hit the power button on the computer itself to shut down. It was late, so I just left it for the night. When I got home the next afternoon I turned on the computer and a black screen came up saying that the file "\Windows\system32\winload.exe" was "missing or corrupt" with the status 0xc000000f.
From the Command Prompt of Recovery Console or a Vista boot disk. Try Typing drive letter e.g. C: otherwise you will get locked drive or drive write protected errors might help someone bydefault you are on X:\ sometimes so change it to appropriate drive letter before running commands C:\sfc /scannow C:\ chkdsk /f /r Regards and then SFC /scannow Hit enter and then chkdsk /f /r (Spaces after C and / and k and / and f and / )
Yup. A screen even comes up saying"Booting from CD / Press any key to boot from CD" or something like that, but when I press a key the next screen is the same black screen with the 0xc000000f error.
I have same problem after I installed HP officejet pro 8500 full software downloaded from hp site. my errror states "\$windows.~bt\windows\system32\winload.exe corrupt or missing.
Yes that definitely sounds like hardware so a shop visit is required. Rob - Bicycle - Mark Twain said it right.
This worked!!! Thanks!
Hi, Just to be sure - you have set it in Setup/Settings (BIOS/CMOS) as you boot up (often F2) to boot from CD/DVD 1st in order? Rob - Bicycle - Mark Twain said it right.
Thanks for the reply. Figured I'll probably have to take it to a shop since there doesn't seem to be much I can do when my computer won't boot from any disk or bootable drive I've tried, including my Vista install disc.
Hi, You probably have hardware issues and need a good computer shop (not leeks and peeks at a Best Buy or big box store) or technical support from the System maker.. Try Startup Repair - This tells you how to access the System Recovery Options and/or use a Vista Disk Hope this helps and Happy Holidays! Rob - Bicycle - Mark Twain said it right.

Windows 10 - winload.exe component has expired
I had windows 7 on my PC, upgraded early to the insider programme to see what all the fuss was with windows 10 which was actually way better than the original. I have just come back from Andorra after a year working and my computer will now not turn on saying a component has expired. The cd key for 7 was on my hardrive which I can no longer access, will I just have to buy a windows 10 key and cd? Thanks, Sam
You could always download the current insider build or purchase win 10 https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windowsinsiderpreviewadvanced

Solving the winload.exe problem
My Windows 10 computer would not boot. The error message was 0xc000000e. The file windows/system32/winload.exe was missing or corrupted. I looked it up and found two solutions on the Microsoft community forum. I tried both and neither worked. In desperation, I decided to get help from Microsoft. Their technician advised me to power off my computer, wait 10 seconds and then power it on again, She said to repeat this procedure 3 times. I powered off, then powered on and my system immediately booted properly!!!!!!! No need to repeat the on/off procedure. I am very upset that I was not able to find this solution on any Windows forum. It was obviously well-known to Microsoft, since that was the first thing the technician recommended. It cost me $49 to be told to turn my computer off and on. To call this a ripoff is an understatement.

Since you were unable to find the solution during your search, it is not a well-known problem. The support engineer used her professional expertise, which was not free.

It angers me that Microsoft chose not to publish that solution.
Windows 10 failed to start - Winload.exe error
I have read almost all the posts regarding winload.exe and have tried multiple recommended solutions - NO JOY! I have clean installed Windows 10 32-Bit from DVD twice now and end up at the same place - winload.exe Status code is 0xc000000f I have an older machine but it meets the upgrade requirements. ASUS A8N-SLI DELUXE Motherboard AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4800+ I'm running NVIDIA STRIPE Raid - the Raid control says they are set to boot and healthy (WD caviar 138GB 10K rpm) 4GB Ram GEFORCE GT 730 w 2GB GDDR5 Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS Now here is where I get really confused: If I follow the instructions from the error code and hit enter it asks if I want to go to Windows Setup or WINDOWS 7. I have formatted the HDD twice Win 7 isn't on these HDDs. There is not a restore point to go back to. I have run: bootrec /RebuildBcd bootrec /ScanOs These return with: Successfully scanned Windows Installations. Total identified Windows installation: 0 The operation completed succes

Greg, Thank you for the answer. I have read thru it this morning and I started with disassembling the raid. I have disabled the raid in bios and disconnected all but one HDD. The BIOS doesn't support AHCI. Now Windows doesn't even see a HDD. It is present in BIOS as first SATA Master. I only have one 74GB WD connected - I know it is small but it is the fastest. I'm running ASUS A8N-SLI DELUXE ACPI BIOS Revision 1015 w/ Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG Any recommendations? Update: I reset the BIOS to default and installed a larger 320GB standard 7200rpm drive and it picked it right up. Windows is installing as I type. After some searching apparently WD Raptor HDD and Windows don't play well together. Would still appreciate some guidance as I don't want this to be the solution on my other computer.
Well, what's immediately obvious is the RAID. In six years helping tens of thousands of consumers in forums I've never seen a good report about RAID, just problems including almost always losing all data if a single drive fails - so it isn't even redundant which is the first letter of it's name! And there's really no appreciable benefit or need now that there are SSD's, drive imaging and huge drives. So what I'd immediately recommend is breaking the RAID, set SATA controller at AHCI with only the fastest hard drive or SSD attached, then do a Clean Install Windows 10 Upgrade making sure to delete all partitions during the booted install to get it cleanest as illustrated in the link. As long as you stick only with the steps, tools and methods in the Wiki then there's nothing that can cause the problems you describe once you get rid of the RAID.
dual boot of xp and 7 winload.exe problem
I have Windows XP and Windows 7 installed on my computer. XP first then Windows 7.While applying some kind of skins to computer (theme) the computer freeze and didn't respond and so I turned off the computer. Hi, Please see this thread which details all the troubleshooting steps you will need to follow for the Missing OS loader. I am thinking that is going to be the most important thing to go after first. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-system/automated-startup-repair-fails-cannot-find-os/81789756-858e-4adc-a25b-2c0d0c234e0d
I have tried bcdedit. It says their is no "BOOT" folder Please help What I did was I didn't select the type in EasyBCD.
Hi, 1. Did you add a Windows XP entry without setting the "Type" drop-down box? To resolve the issue with Windows 7 try the steps provided in the link below. How to use the Bootrec.exe tool in the Windows Recovery Environment to troubleshoot and repair startup issues in Windows http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927392 To resolve issue with Windows XP: If you added a Windows XP entry without setting the "Type" drop-down box in EasyBCD to Windows XP then Delete this entry, go back to the Add/Remove Entries section, and re-create it. This time, make sure to set its type to Windows XP before doing so.
thanks for your help Can you please tell how to delete the entry, how to go back to Add/Remove Entries section, how to recreate it and which entry.
Error: Windows\system32\winload.exe
I upgraded my HP Pavilion g7 laptop to windows 10 from an original purchased windows 7. I am using Macrium Reflect to backup. I needed a new hard drive and purchased a WD. In Macrium, I used the "Image Disk" to my external hard drive. I created a Macrium rescue disk. Put the rescue disk in the CD/DVD drive. Powered down, removed the battery, removed the old hard drive and installed the new one. When I powered up, the disk drive spun and came up the error code: Oxc0000225 and the disk could not be accessed. The Macrium rescue disc would not load. I tried using an original Windows 7 disc and it would load either. I am an older, intermediate user and don't know what to do. Please help!
Hi, This error usually occurs if the Windows Boot Manager (Bootmgr) entry is not present in the Boot Configuration Data (BCD) store or the Boot\BCD file on is damaged or missing. If this is a recently built new PC and you are unable to boot in normal mode, let’s try the following steps booting from an installation disc or USB and check if it helps. Method 1: Let’s perform startup repair and check if that helps. Regards, Guru Kiran
winload.exe not certifited
Computer was upgraded from win 7 during the free period. Three days ago while starting up I got the Winload.exe is not certified error. I download the win 10 iso and using the tool set it up on a usb drive. When I try to re-install win 10, I am told that the drive format is not recognized and I cannot go further with the install. If I try to repair the installation, it tell me that it fails and I need to re-boot. when I do, it comes back to winload error. it is also telling me that win 7 is the only os on that computer
click “format” - then click next on the the main drive it makes
After formatting the drive, the install said that it couldn't find the partition or the partition was bad. reset the ISO on the usb drive and now it's not booting. going back to windows media creator.
So when you get to the screen with your partitions, I’d click on all of them and “delele” - leaving you with one drive of unallocated space, like the photo I’ve attached. Then click new, and let it do its things, and try to install again. We’ll figure this out. Good luck, and let me know! - C
I did follow your instructions and when I clicked "new" I got primary on drive 0, which is where I am trying to install Win 10. Then if I click next it is still saying couldn't create partition or locate an existing one. Sorry the second pic is upside down.
Hi Carl, Let’s try this, only with a slightly different path. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-downlo... Download the iso above ( you may already have it) and then use one of these apps below to create the media (I like them both, but Rufus is my favorite) https://www.pendrivelinux.com/yumi-multiboot-us... https://rufus.akeo.ie Note: These are a non-Microsoft websites. The pages appear to be providing accurate, safe information. Watch out for ads on the sites that may advertise products frequently classified as a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Products). Thoroughly research any product advertised on the site before you decide to download and install it. Once you build the media, go ahead and boot to it, (do you need anything on your PC?) if not, format the drive, and then reinstall windows. Let me know, we’ll try to figure this out! - C
Win 7 x64 Winload.exe corrupt after Windows Updates
OS is Windows 7 x64 and am having difficulty with Windows Update corrupting Winload.exe after installing 76 important updates. The failures are: File Repair failed error code = 0xa System restore failed error code = 0x1f System files integrity check & repair error code = 0xa Restoring to a recovery point before the updates solves the problem (if early enough). Every time I let Windows Update install important updates, Winload.exe becomes corrupted and I have to roll back before the updates. It seems that one of the 76 important updates is the culprit. MSE reports no problems. Other virus scanners report no problems other than several web sites that were accessed some time in the past. This system has been running reliably with automatic updates since it was installed about two years ago. C:/F: is a 256 GB SSD. Other drives are legacy or backup drives and should have no impact on Windows Update or boot. The C: drive is compressed (a 512 GB SSD is on order). F: (System Reserved) is

Hi i fixed this all i had to do was install windows again with the disc but dont format the HDD like i did some files survived so if you install windows again things should go back to normal (i had a back up so i was fine with it!)
Sorry for my English grammar but i meant was that i copied my files from my laptop not the acttually operating system but anyways i found something my hard disc has been partitioned by its own! and now via the windows 8 installation disc i can see that it has been splt into 3 total partitions: C Drive now says system reserved (the actual drive) Local Disk is now named (D:) D drive and apart from the CD drive there is one that says Boot named the X drive(X:) I hope this can help me and bythe way i can see that my files folder (my documents etc are still there) i am sorry for the lack of detail in my previous answers ihope this can shed some light on the answer!
If you copied the Win 7 OS from your laptop to your PC, that is the problem. You must use the original Win 7 disks to install Win 7 on your PC then do the upgrade.
Dump File? And i have already tried the refresh but it says the drive where windows is installed is locked and how do ii get the dump file? sorry im a newb to this topic. BTW there is a system restore partition i this fits in because before the crash i had a semi powercut in my area and rebooted my pc then this mess happened.
It would be advisable for you to send us your dump file for analysis. If you have the Win 8 installation disk, boot from the disk and chose Troubleshoot then Repair. If you choose Refresh, all 3rd party apps will be lost but your personal files will remain. But like I said above, it is better to first send us your dump files.
If Win 8 was preinstalled on your computer, you could use the restore partition to put the computer back to original factory condition. You will have to reinstall your 3rd party apps and you have lost your personal files, I hope you had a back up of your files.
My PC i bought had no OS on it and i put windows 7 ultimate inside. the data by transferring data from my laptop to my pc`s hard drive then upgraded to Windows 8 Pro later when it was released any suggestions? BTW the restore partition only occured after the crash as viewed via my Windows 8 disc
winload.exe error at windows 7 install
I am trying to upgrade from Windows Vista Business to Windows7 Professional (both 32bit). At the first reboot during the windows7 setup i get an error saying there is a problem with "File : /windows/system32/winload.exe Status : 0xc0000001" and it reloads windows vista again. Is there a repair for this that will allow me to install Windows 7? My computer is an ASUS R1E tablet/notebook (convertible). There more than 16GB space in my C drive too.

Hi, Did you make any software or hardware changes on the computer prior to this issue? Let’s follow these methods and check if it helps. Method 1 You may try to boot into ‘safe mode’ and check if you are able to boot to the desktop. It will start Windows 7 with a limited set of files and drivers. Startup programs do not run in safe mode, and only the basic drivers needed to start Windows are installed, follow the steps to boot the computer in safe mode: a. Restart the computer. b. Windows/system32/winload.exe is missing or corrupt
My computer randomly froze two days ago, and when i restarted i got an error screen saying Windows/system32/winload.exe was missing or corrupt. Since then i have completely wiped my hard drives and reinstalled windows, but it still happens. I've tried doing windows repair bootrec/rebuildbcd but that hasnt fixed it. anyone got any help?
Hello Connor, Thank you for posting your question on Microsoft community forum. I would like to know some information about the issue so that we could help you better. 1. What is the make and model of your computer? 2. How did you reinstall Windows? Did you use a recovery image or an installation disk? It is possible that hard drive might have bad sectors. To repair them, I would suggest you to run check disk and see if it helps. You may use suggestions from this article to open system recovery options. Refer: What are the system recovery options in Windows? http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/what-are-system-recovery-options#what-are-system-recovery-options=windows-7 You may then follow these steps: a. Open command prompt from system recovery options screen. b. Type the following command in the command prompt and press Enter. chkdsk /f /r Check disk will take some time to complete. Note: While performing chkdsk on the hard drive if any bad sectors are found on the hard drive wh
My computer is custom built, and i reinstalled windows from the installation disk. when i did the check disk it said the type of the file system is ntfs cannot lock the current drive windows cannot run disk checking on this volume because it is write protected i googled the issue and a fix was chkdsk c:f/r/x it ran until it said failed to transfer logged messages to the event log with status 50.
Hello Connor, Thank you for your response. I hope that your issue is resolved after running chkdsk c:f/r/x. If issue still persists, you may refer to suggestions from Judd - Support Engineer replied on May 12, 2009 and check. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-hardware/failed-to-transfer-logged-messages-to-the-event/0eacd1bf-4357-4a47-b135-e96f1177eec1 (Also applies to Windows 7) Note: While performing chkdsk on the hard drive if any bad sectors are found on the hard drive when chkdsk tries to repair that sector if any data available on that might be lost. Hi Fredwhocares, Method 1: Note this issue is caused due to the boot file corruption and in order to troubleshoot this issue we will run chkdsk from Win RE (Windows Recovery Environment )mode and check for the issue, to do that follow the below steps. To run check disk, you have to have Windows 7 DVD, boot the computer to Win RE from the elevated command prompt, and try to do a CHKDSK. You can follow these steps to run CHKDSK : Microsoft Answers Feedback Forum and let us know what you think.

File: \Windows\system32\winload.exe Error Code: 0xc000000e
So I installed the preview and now I'm royally hosed. My machine will not boot although with the installation media I can get into safe mode. When I do a regular mode I get this error: File: \Windows\system32\winload.exe Error Code: 0xc000000e I have tried an auto repair and this from the console bootrec /fixmbr bootrec /fixboot bootrec /scanos bootrec /rebuildbcd Nothing seems to work. I am still unable to boot to normal mode. If I look at the boot options I see Windows 8 Pro and then a blank entry. I am out of options and don't know where to go from here. Can anyone help me get back to booting my machine? Thanks ~AGP
This not a winload corruption. This is a problem with the BCD. The database gets corrupted and Windows incorrectly reports the problem is winload.exe. After booting into safe mode and opening a command prompt this is what gets displayed with a bcdedit command C:\Windows\system32>bcdedit Windows Boot Manager -------------------- 3. Can this somehow be made part of a KB article. It seems once the "device" and "osdevice" are "unknown" then the repair process should try to reset those. Hope this helps someone.
Hi. I would suggest you to login to any other computer and create a Windows 8.1 installation disk. Using that disk you can perform the following troubleshooting methods. You can create the installation disk form the steps given here. How to create installation media for a PC refresh or reset: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media Method 1: Booting to Recovery Environment with Windows 8.1 installation media After you perform System Restore your documents and files will always remain to their previous state. Feel free to write to us if you still face any issue. We will be happy to assist you.
Hi, Thank you for sharing the information with us. Glad to know you resolve the issue on your own. To answer your question; it's not necessary to clean up BCD settings but if you may try running bootrec /rebuildbcd if necessary. Do you have two Operating Systems listed under Boot Menu options? Here is an article which will help you 'Removing and deleting a boot entry in Windows 8, Windows 7, and Windows Vista'. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/ff541231(v=vs.85).aspx#removing_a_boot_entry_in_windows_vista_and_later I am not sure if you have already come across this article; this explain the bootrec commands and also how to export, rename and rebuild BCD. This article applies for Windows 8 and 8.1 too. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927392/en-us Hope the information helps.
Per my original post I have already tried the installation media. I have tried a repair and there are no restore points to use. In fact when i do a bootrec /scanos it says no operating systems were found. Yet I can boot into safe mode and all my files and apps are still there. This is just the most frustrating thing in the world.
Windows\system32\winload.exe status: 0xc000000e__With raid 1
So the winloader on vista ultimate 64 is somehow messed up, the raid 1 array is functioning fine. After booting the vista install dvd and going through repair option, it does not see the operating system...ok, load the drivers...still nothing. Any ideas?
This question is a bit advanced for the Windows Answers Forum. We don't often deal with RAID-involved problems (especially those where access is being denied by normal methods). The above was my best effort but being a RAID 1 system, it didn't work as I had hoped. I recommend you repost in the Technet Forum at: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-us/itprovistahardware/threads where people who are somewhat more technical will be happy to assist you. You will need a disk to boot to to get to a command prompt. If you don't have a disk, you can make a bootable Recovery Disk using http://neosmart.net/blog/2008/windows-vista-recovery-disc-download/ along with burning software like: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/active-isoburner.html Good luck! Thank you for your time John
Sorry this took so long, I did as asked and I could not access the c: drive. As I said before this is on a raid 1 array and I could not get the recovery console to see the array...thus not the c: drive partition. When I try to make sure the drivers work on the install side, the installer sees all of my raid 1 arrays and all the partitions. Help John
winload.exe missing or corrupt 0x000000e
Hi, ive been using vista for over a year now, and its been smooth no problems encountered. Then, 2 weeks ago, my computer started giving me error messages telling me to backup the C: drive as it detected an error, and to prevent data loss if it failed. I tried to backup the disk with windows backup, but it failed( not sure why). Then, my computer started having errors downloading updates from Microsoft. My computer had been freezing alot lately, so much that i have to force shut down most of the time. Now, its giving me the winload.exe error thing. I encountered this before, and already lost one 500GB SATA drive. but i managed to get it exchanged for a new one, with all my files wiped. When i try to run bcdedit(a method i found on other sites) in the Repair mode form the Installation disk, it says that my disk is not ready, and the path cannot be found. im close to giving up already, so hopefully, someone can help me to find a solution that doesnt include, wiping the disk and getting a
Hi, Possibly all the data can be saved by putting the drive into another computer as 2nd or using an external USB drive case. Then if the data can be accessed it can be copied to removable media such as CD, DVD, or USB drives. =========================================================== Hope this helps. File: \Windows\system32\winload.exe Error code: 0xc000000d on Windows 10.
Hey. I've got a rather old laptop that I've had for about 8 years now. I've gone from Windows Vista -> Windows 7, then to Windows 10 without an issue. Recently. I did the clumsy mistake of dropping magnets onto the laptop and now it displays this code: File: \Windows\system32\winload.exe Error code: 0xc000000d It says winload.exe is missing or corrupt. I've got my installation media and I've tried that multiple times, booting from the disk but nothing has worked. I've seen other posts about this but none of the tutorials on how to fix has worked. Is it time to get a new laptop or think about getting a new hard drive. Laptop: Dell Inspiron 1750 Thanks
Hi, Thank you for posting the query on Microsoft Community. I am sorry to know that you are facing issues with Windows 10. I do appreciate your efforts and time, and will assist you with the issue. I suggest you to run SFC scan and check if it helps. Summary System File Checker is a utility in Windows that allows users to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files. This article describes how to run the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe) to scan your system files and to repair missing or corrupted system files in Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows 7 or Windows Vista. If a Windows Resource Protection (WRP) file is missing or is corrupted, Windows may not behave as expected. For example, some Windows functions may not work, or Windows may crash. System file check works on Vista, Win 7, Win 8, Win 8.1, and win 10 I suggest you to try the steps provided, in the link below in order to run SFC scan on your computer.

Hi icthem2, I’d suggest you to perform system restore from system recovery options to a restore point when the problem did not exist. The System Recovery Options menu contains several tools, such as Startup Repair, that can help you recover Windows from a serious error. This set of tools is on your computer's hard disk and on the Windows installation disc. What are the system recovery options in Windows 7?
ive tried these...thanks..none of them worked...apparently system restore was turned off,and when i tried these options..it just stated the if couldnt find any....its looking like i will just have to buy the os and do a clean install...i cant even get to the start up options to try safe mode or what have you...egghh...$$$$$$$

I have posted the question before but no one is replying there. I have changed my hard disk but still I am getting this error. I have no idea what to do. Please help me and respond me quickly. Regards Azmaar
When I start my notebook nothing happens. But when i insert usb drive with original window it loads and then it shows blue screen with error message and when i try to get it recovery mode with usb it does the same.
Hi Azmaar, Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community. 1) When do you get this error? Do you get at the time of starting the computer or while using any application? If you are able to boot into desktop, I suggest you to perform startup repair by getting into safe mode and check. Safe mode in Windows 10. Open the Settings menu and go to Update & security > Recovery > Advanced startup. Clicking Advanced startup will restart your PC in recovery mode. You'll see a light blue screen with three options: Continue, Troubleshoot, and Turn off your PC. You are now in recovery mode. Click Troubleshoot to see your advanced options. In the Troubleshoot menu, click Advanced options . The Advanced options menu will give you several options: System Restore, System Image Recovery, Startup Repair, Command Prompt, Startup Settings, and Go back to the previous build. Click Startup Settings to change Windows' startup behavior. In the Startup Settings menu, click the Restart button to restart your PC. Yo

0xc000000e Error. System32/winload.exe Not working.
0xc000000e Error. System32/winload.exe Not working. So this is the error message I get trying to turn on my PC. I can get my computer to desktop by powering it on and off a few times, I've already ran a lot of Virus Scanners and SFC scan and Tweaking the repair program (I work at a computer repair store and I'm just trying a bunch of stuff they taught us to fix my issue). The problem still persists. Googling my issue I came across using repair install would help. None of the options in repair install will go through, it'll say failed or there's no OS to do anything with. I was even desperate enough to try and refresh the OS removing apps but keeping files but that failed too, in the sense that it says failure, can't do it. The Command Prompt did work in advanced settings, where I did all of the Bootrec commands except for the one that scans OSes. Fixing MBR and rebuilding BCD is what direction I was going towards. One glitch/bug I've found with my installation of Windows 10 is that aft
Hello Kino, Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community. You may download the Windows 10 ISO and create a Media Creation tool and then perform Startup Repair. Refer to the following link: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 (Refer to the section " Installing Windows 10 using the media creation tool " in the above article for creating the tool). Once you have the installation media, follow the steps: Start your computer from the installation media. Insert the disk or USB stick and restart your computer. If you see a message asking you to “Press any key to boot from DVD,” do so. If you don’t see the message, you might need to change the boot order in your computer's BIOS settings so that it first starts from the disk or USB. When you see the 'Install Windows' page, tap or click 'Repair your computer' link to start the Windows Recovery Environment. In the Windows Recovery Environment, on the Choose an option screen, click 'Troubleshoot'. Click, ‘Advanced
Thanks That did the trick
I have the same issue. I have already down everything on the above list but did it all again to make sure i had not missed anything. I re-loaded Win10 but the problem error continues. If i have done all the above and it has not helped, what next?
I also have exactly the same problem I start my hard drive and get 0xc000000e Error. System32/winload.exe Not working. I have made a DVD copy of windows 10 when starting using that I have manged to get the pc started but at end of step 3 get start up cannot repair. Please can you tell me what do I do next?
Hi Martin, Thank you for the update. Glad to know that the issue is fixed. Please revert if you face any issues with Windows in future.
Thanks for the advice but it didnt work, (unlike for martin). Mine is not a Win7 or 8 machine. It used to be a Win 7 OS but when we upgraded to Win 10 we elected not to keep the old OS in place or on a sep drive. After i followed yesterdays instructions (CMD Prompt) the situation became even worse, more errors and the machine getting stuck in endless loops. At this stage it looks like we will have to 'nuke' the entire hard drive and start from a moonscape base.
Hi Martin, Thank you for the update. Hi Stephen, This error usually occurs if the Windows Boot Manager (Bootmgr) entry is not present in the Boot Configuration Data (BCD) store or the Boot\BCD file on is damaged or missing. If this is a recently built new PC and you are unable to boot in normal mode, let’s try the following steps booting from an installation disc or USB and check if it helps. Method 1: Let’s perform startup repair and check if that helps. Hope it helps. Feel free to post back if the issue persists and we will be glad to assist you further.

Windows 7 winload.exe error 0x0000428
Using Windows 7 (64 bit), and it just shut down. Now I am getting this error: Due to some recent hardware change blah blah blah........................ File:\Windows\System32\winload.exe Status:0xc0000428 Info:Windows cant verify the digital signature for this file. They say to use F8,but on pressing F8 I get the same screen. I tried booting from Windows 7 DVD, but the system can't find my operating system (none of my c: or d: drives are visible). I tried bcdboot and bootrec commands from the command-prompt, but it can't find any of my drives. I also tried booting up using Ubuntu DVD, and it seems all my folders are intact, but I don't know how to copy those files on my external hard-drive. I have searched Windows forums as well as Google, but can't find any solutions. I appreciate any pointers. Thanks,
Hi Jeevs, Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community. I will certainly help you with this issue. 1. Have you followed the steps from this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927392 ? 2. Were there any changes made to the computer prior to the issue? If you followed the same steps from the above mentioned link and still the issue persists, I would suggest you to perform custom install of Windows 7. Refer to the link. Installing and reinstalling Windows 7 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows7/installing-and-reinstalling-windows-7 NOTE: Before starting the installation of Windows 7, please make sure you backup all your data. Once the installation of Windows 7 is completed you will have to install all the software installed on your computer. If you face any more issues while working with Windows do post on
I am afraid none of the steps you described worked in my case. I ended up using Ubuntu to backup all my data (thank goodness the data was not impacted!) to an external 3TB hard-drive, and then had to completely wipeout my hard-drive, and install Windows 7 from scratch... What a pain, but glad that I was able to recover all my data... Thanks for your suggestions and help!
Windows 10 error 0xc00000e9 winload.exe
I own a HP 4600 workstation with 256GB SSD, 8GB mem and 3.0 Ghz processor. Worked like a dream with win7 prof, 64 bit. After upgrading to Windows 10 64 bit, everytime at booting this happens: blue screen, indicating unexpected error 0xc00000e9. c:\windows\system32\winload.exe. and the known story about problems with a removable storage device. system freezes, function F8 and return do not react. After hitting CTRL ALT DEL the computer reboots with no problems. I have tried almost all written suggestions, including all Bootbcd commands, but to no avail. Would you have any suggestions? ***Post moved by the moderator to the appropriate forum category.***

Regards. Dear JohnRod, given the fact that I have posted my question on februari 19, I have gotten used to my little workaround: after switching on my computer I wait until the HP screen appears and then i press CtrlAltDel. after that the computer boots without problems. This leads me to believe that there is a kind of timing problem between the SSD I Installed, and the boot process. In reply to your questions: It happens every time I switch on the computer (cold boot). I installed a Crucial M4 256GB SSD when I still was running Windows7. It worked like a dream. Before upgrading to Windows 10 I upgraded my memory from 6 to 8 Gb. Aft
Windows 8.1 start up error winload.exe missing or contains errors
Hi yesterday my desktop failed to boot to Windows 8.1 ( I hadn't changed anything) & was locked in an auto repair loop. Coming back to it today I eventually managed to run chkdsk with repair and when restarting it now tells me " your pc needs to be repaired. The application or operating system cannot be loaded because a required file is missing or contains errors. File :\windows\system 32\winload.exe error code 0xc000000f". The desktop is a 9 year old Mesh that was originally XP but was upgraded to Windows 8 & then 8.1 online. So I have no installation media. Can you offer any help? If I chose an alternative operating system I can start 8.1 Pro but all that appears is a cursor arrow & no Windows. In that mode I can press Cntl Alt Delete & get to take manager but nothing else. Thanks.
Hi thanks for coming back. I am pretty sure I held on to XP until MS offered Win8 as an online upgrade.
At this point, I'm going to hand you over to the Microsoft-sponsored (but not necessarily free) support offered via the Answer Desk => http://answerdesk.microsoftstore.com Good luck! ==================================================== DISCLAIMER: Posted AS IS with no guarantees. Windows 8 wasn't offered to WinXP computers as an online upgrade, hence my question. You may have done a clean install of Windows 8 but you didn't upgrade the WinXP computer to Windows 8.
My recall may not be precise as it was a few years ago. From memory I had to reinstall apps/programmes. If that is indication of a clean install then I guess that was it rather than an "upgrade" as I termed it. Thanks
How did you upgrade the WinXP computer to Win8?

winload.exe is missing or contains errors on every startup windows 10
I did a clean install of Windows 10, and it said winload.exe is missing or contains errors, error code 0xc000000e. I used bootrec.exe to rebuild the bcd, and I was able to get it working. Every time I restart, I get this same error. I tried running chkdsk, and it found errors, but it was unable to run disk checking because it was write protected. I think this is connected to the winload.exe errors. Is there way to fix the recurring winload.exe errors?
Hi, Thank you for posting your query at Microsoft community. Could you provide us some additional information? How was Windows 10 installed? Was it upgraded or a clean installation? Have you created an installation media? If not I would suggest you to download and create the installation DVD and perform a repair of the operating system using the DVD. Thank you.
The first time I installed Windows 10, I was upgrading from Windows 8.1. The winload.exe problems started after the upgrade, so I put Windows 10 onto my USB drive to use as installation media. I formatted my drive that contained Windows 8.1 and did a clean install of Windows 10, but that did not seem to solve anything.
I have similar problem in one of my PCs. When I do a "cold" start, I get this error. When I reboot while having this error on screen by pressing CTRL + ALT + DEL, everything works normally. Also, if I restart from Windows PC boots normally. This only happens from power off state. Changing the fast start setting has no effect. Chkdsk, sfc -> no errors. HP xw4600. Any idea how to fix this?
winload.exe is corrupt error
trying to do a system recovery in the middle of the recovery the system stops and gives me \windows\system32\winload.exe is corrupt error
Hi , Are you doing the system recovery using the Computer manufacturer’s disk or recovery partition? If you do not have any important data stored on the computer, I would suggest you to format the partition and try to perform a system recovery and check if it helps. If you have a Windows Vista Recovery disk boot the computer from the recovery disc and try to perform a recovery after backing up the data and formating the partition. If the above steps do not help, you may have to contact the computer manufacturer to check if they can help you to perform a system recovery. Note: Before you perform a system recovery, make sure you backup all the important data. Hope this helps. Let us know the results. Thanks and Regards, Srinivas R Microsoft Support. I have an Acer aspire 5251 and I recovered it back to factory defaults, now I get this error upon startup. I've tried repairing with a repair disc and it didn't work, I also tried using bootrec and that also didn't work. I am very frustrated and not that great with computers I could really use some help.

I cannot install 8GB Ram upgrade from 4GB - winload.exe errors
Hi. I have been desperately trying to upgrade my PC from 4GB Ram to 8GB. Whenever I install the extra 4GB Ram I get the error message 'windows failed to start' and it refers to '\windows\system32\winload.exe' being missing or corrupt. When I use my 4GB Ram it works fine. The extra 4GB ram is definitely not faulty as I have checked it and it registers in the bios O.K. The weird thing is if I install just an extra 2GB Ram (making it 6GB) the computer boots up fine and loads Windows Vista. It is only when I install the added 4GB (to make it 8GB) that I get the errors. The error also refers to a checksum not matching. I am using Vista Home Basic 64-bit.
Hi, What happens if you only use the new 4 gig in the machine, or even just 2 of it at a time. Sounds like one of the sticks is not matched properly. It probably works with 6 because the new stick might be slower so when it is put in last the slowest memory in used last. Rob - Bicycle - Mark Twain said it right.
If I put the new 4gig in the machine it works o.k. All four of the 2gb sticks have the same specifications.
Hi, I am a volunteer and if this were a Vista issue it would be well known. Virtually has to be hardware related. Sounds like all your issues could be hardware - did you check with those maker's? Rob - Bicycle - Mark Twain said it right.
I tried swapping six different memory sticks in numerous combinations and the result was still the same - Vista would not boot. It sounds to me like you either work for Microsoft, or you are a big fan. It is obvious to me that Vista is the problem as a person should not have to exhaustingly swap memory modules in the hope that Vista will boot. Vista is obviously incompetent at running four 2gb memory sticks as an upgrade from two 2gb memory sticks. Vista should be able to function with four memory sticks without problems. I have used four identifical memory sticks. If you are telling me that they 'might be different' then Vista should compensate for that because nearly everybody would have memory sticks that 'might be different'. My hardware, BIOS, chipset and memory controller are all fine. I would appreciate it if you would not try to pass the buck onto my hardware as being faulty. The only problem here is Vista will not boot with the memory. Everything else is working corr

My mother board is GA-EG43M-S2H THESE boards will only accept 2x 2ram or 2x 4ram. Not 4x 2ram like other NORMAL mother boards. your mother board maybe the same! Vince
Hi, You might also check with System or Motherboard maker and their forums if any for known issues. Possibly it needs a BIOS or low level chipset updates. Try reversing the 2 new ones in the machine by themselves as possibly the one in last now is actually slower than the other one. To test RAM check here - let it run 4+ hours or so. www.memtest.org For the Vista Memory Diagnostic Tool Start - type in Search box -> Memory - find Memory Diagnostics tool at top of list - Right Click - RUN AS ADMIN follow the instructions Windows Vista: How to Scan / Test your RAM or Memory with Windows Vista Memory Diagnostic Tool http://www.shivaranjan.com/2007/11/01/windows-vista-how-to-scan-test-your-ram-or-memory-with-windows-vista-memory-diagnostic-tool/ Test Your Computer’s Memory Using Windows Vista Memory Diagnostic Tool http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/test-your-computers-memory-using-windows-vista-memory-diagnostic-tool/ Hope this helps. Rob - Bicycle - Mark Twain said it right.
thanks for the reply this problem. the action of reloading the windows 8 or 7 etc wouldn't work. I have down loaded the mother boards manuals and it makes it clear that it maximum it can take is 4GB I can put in 4 x 1 GB OR 2 X 2GB OR 1 X 4GB BUT I can't go over 4GB The mother board is just limited to 4GB- It was manufactured that way when I do the computer will not start- full stop. Vince.
Hi. There are no known motherboard issues. To clarify the RAM issue, I went out and purchased 4GB of ram which is identical to the ram I already have. The error is still the same so the problem is definitely something to do with Vista. The PC boots to the bios with no problems and all the ram is registered there. But when I try to boot Vista the error message referring to '\windows\system32\winload.exe' being missing or corrupt appears. When I take out 2GB of memory leaving 6GB in the machine the PC boots with no problems to Vista. I've since tried to solve the problem by scanning the disk for errors (no errors) and using 'repair windows' from the vista CD (but there was nothing to repair). I then tried to boot the PC with the 8GB memory and the error message was 'windows failed to start', 'file:\windows\system32\winload.exe','status: 0xc000221','info: the file is possibly corrupt. It's header checksum does not match the computed checksum'. I then tried to boot from the Vista DVD
The answer is still as I showed above. There maybe a motherboard or BIOS issue. Some of the RAM, though appearing identical, could have speed or other mismatching issues - this is not a rare problem. To see if that is the issue you need to swap the memory in an out in all combinations and check though memory checking does not alway find mismatched memory problems. This is not likely to be a Windows problem, its hardware or BIOS or low level chipset or memory controller problems. Rob - Bicycle - Mark Twain said it right.

winload.exe error at windows 7 install
I am trying to upgrade from Windows Vista Business to Windows7 Professional (both 32bit). At the first reboot during the windows7 setup i get an error saying there is a problem with; File : /windows/system32/winload.exe Status : 0xc000000f and it reloads windows vista again. Is there a repair for this that will allow me to install Windows 7? My computer is an ASUS R1E tablet/notebook (convertible). There more than 16GB space in my C drive too.
Thank you Andre Well I did clearup the startup and did the checkdisk, but still it happens. The setup does not proceed from after the first restart. During the bootup (at this first restart) I get the option to select an operating system, Vista or Windows 7 Setup..When i select the windows 7 setup, this error message comes. Now after this installation the error msg has got different. It says that some driver is missing and the winload.exe error does not appear anymore. Any idea what's going on here?
Are you able to boot into Windows Vista and load the desktop? If so try the following: 1. Disable any security software before attempting to upgrade or do a clean install. 2. Make sure your computer is updated (devices and applications) 3. Disconnect any external devices before installing. 4. Check your hard disk for any errors: Click Start Type: CMD, from the results, right click CMD Click 'Run as Administrator' At the Command Prompt, type: chkdsk /r /f When you restart your system, your computer will be scanned for errors and attempts will be made to correct them. 1. Click Start, type msconfig in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER. User Account Control permission If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue. 2. On the General tab, click Selective Startup. 3. Hi, The issue that you’ve encountered regarding the error code on your Windows 10 computer may be caused by some files or components that are broken or missing on the system. To sort out your concern, we’d like to know the following information: Were there any changes that happened prior to the issue? What troubleshooting steps have you done so far? On the other hand, we suggest that you run the System File Checker (SFC) tool . This process will automatically scan and correct if there’s a possible integrity violation on the system. To do this, you may follow the steps provided on this link . Once you’re on the page, you may expand and proceed with the steps from the Windows 10, Windows 7, or Windows Vista option under the Run the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe) section, and then complete the process. After completing the steps, you may check if the issue persists. We’re looking forward to your response.

I had the same problem with a previous build. This may not work for you, but I got out of it by booting up to my Win 7 installation disk and installing a copy on a spare partition. From there I was able to edit the Bootloader. I used EasyBCD for this. I now run Win 10 on a VM.

The reason is that if "forgets" the hard drive which I have my os on. If the machine "forgets" that it has a hard disk after being idle for some 10 minutes then you probably have a disk that is on the way out. Here is what you could do: Back up all your data files to an external medium. Have the disk checked out at a place of service. Replace it if it turns out to be unreliable. Order a Factory Restore DVD from the supplier. Reload Windows. When you purchase software from the Internet next time, take these standard precautions: a) Make a note of all purchasing details, especially the product key. b) Back up the software to an external medium, e.g. a backup disk.

When i use 360 safety center to check my computer, the program said that the file named "winload.exe" has some problem. Can everybody tell me what's the use for this file? Thanks
Google or Bing is your friend: From Wikipedia: The Windows Boot Manager invokes winload.exe —the operating system boot loader —to load the operating system kernel ( ntoskrnl.exe ) and (boot-class) device drivers. In that respect, winload.exe is functionally equivalent to the operating system loader function of NTLDR in prior versions of Windows NT. Cannot access Volume 2 without getting the winload.exe error code 0x000000f. Volume 2 is where my 8.1 install was. 3. I tried to use the recovery media, a thumb drive, but it failed initially. It would continually restart and ask to install Windows again, asking for the serial number every time. This happened a half-dozen times. 4. A friend recommended I try switching from AHCI to RAID. That allowed me to install Windows to another volume (5). 5. I can now boot to an OS, but I cannot access Volume 2 -- I just get the same winload error every time I try to boot from it. When operating on Volume 5, the OS lists my C drive size as lower than I know it is and my Data partition as running out of room. So: I want to retrieve my files, then just wipe the old buggy partition. What can I do here?
1. No hardware changes were made before the GPU stopped working properly. The only kind of hardware change I made before the winload error was flashing the BIOS trying to sort out the GPU. I did not install anything new or open the case. 2. It's a PC, do you want the individual components? 3. I cannot boot to desktop on Volume 2. As I said, the recovery media did not work at all until I set the disks as RAID. Only then I could install and boot on volume 5. Should I attempt the thumbdrive recovery again...?

Winload.exe missing
Hello, After a Windows 10 update last week as of posting, I have been shut out of my X51 Alienware desktop. The computer continues to restart after a short attempt to restore an older version of Windows. All attempts to restore Windows via use of CD and USB have met with failure, showing that Winload.exe is missing. An internal check showed no damage or missing components, and a start-up check showed no errors either. I am frankly at a loss on what to do.
If the message is accurate, it would appear the Boot system is directing the boot to a place which does not contain the necessary file or it is corrupted, as the other post mentions. I would start by booting into a Recovery Drive or the Install Media and check the system for partitions and folders/files on the OS partition which normally contain that file. Maybe you have done that and the file is present in the Windows\System32 folder. You will need to be in the Command Prompt window so while there, also run the command below to make sure you can get a listing. If you have some storage space available you might be able to direct the output to that storage device. bcdedit /enum all Have you done anything to the system to change the partition layout? Is this a upgrade from another OS or a Win 10 OEM system? If a Repair would actually work, it may take several reboots.
This is one of three type of situations which will keep a system from booting and possibly related to updates. The winload.exe if for a Legacy install so if your install was UEFI that might be your problem. Sorry to say, the only poster I have seen repair this error was someone who had a backup copy of his OS partition. After he replaced the problematic one his system booted again. If there was a way to replace the winload.exe file that might help but dealing with the permissions would be a bucket of worms. If a System File check was run from a Boot disk, it might find and replace the file. I see you ran it but do you remember exactly what command you used to do so? Also, not really sure why you would show drive letters of K or E if you had just booted into a Recovery drive or install media. Once a system shows reverting to a previous version, I have no idea exactly what configuration that system is in.
My install is a legacy install on a PC built late 2010. Too old to have UEFI . I have ran sfc /scannow command, it goes to 100% but then says "unable to finish" (I don't remember the exact wording). I tried using DISM, but cannot do so with /online parameter because that only works from within Windows. I tried /image parameter but I get error messages about a temp folder being read only in the boot media ram disk (X). Would you be able to help me with this command? As regards to the drive letters, I have 4 internal HD drives installed, each with multiple partitions. I think the way I installed Windows 10 (clean install after installing a new HD drive and wiping Windows 7 partition) has led to the bootmgr, boot folder and BCD being located in one drive (E) and then Windows installed in the first in the first new partition created (K). Of course, within Windows the OS portion is C to make it all more confusing. I don't understand what you mean by "reverting to a previous verison" ?
Hi Saltgrass , I'm not the original poster, but our problems sound similar. I get the same winload.exe missing (0xc000007b). I have checked the full listing in BCD and the windows installation is shown on drive K (bootmgr drive E) and I have verified that \Windows\System32 and winload.exe exist on drive K. I haven't changed the partition layout or upgraded the OS (apart from any updates that were installed last week). I have put specific details in my own question thread here . Thanks.
Hi Daniel, Let us make your computer up and running again. Kindly download the Media Creation Tool again. Most probably the file that you have downloaded is corrupted. Before you start again, remove all external media including your printer. To download the latest Windows 10 ISO, refer to the link below and follow Andre's article: How to download Official Windows 10 ISO files using Media Creation Tool If you decide to perform a clean install, refer to the link below: How to perform a clean install of Windows 10 Let us know what happens.
Hi, is it the same as my problem ? https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-performance/unable-to-boot-windows-10-winloadexe-missing-or/3ca27597-e205-4412-88cb-4dba048b0e0b
If you wanted to check out your install, you could attach a picture of your Disk Management picture. If I have the correct information, I think Winload.exe is sometimes used to keep an expired system from booting. Did you have any problems with your install being activated or was there an older install also on the system at the same time. I don't think an expiration is the only reason for a winload.exe error but I don't know what else might be picking on that one file, which is essential to the boot process.
\windows\sysrem32\winload.exe will not load
\windows\system32\winload.exe will not load. A component of the operating system has expired. ***Post moved by the moderator to the appropriate forum category.***
Hi Michael, To address your concern regarding the error you're getting, you can follow the steps provided by Parth P Patel on this thread . A community user on that thread confirmed that Method 2 worked for him. Let us know how it goes. Regards.

Hi Kevin , To provide the appropriate resolution, I would need more information from your end. 1. When exactly you get this error message? 2. Are you able to boot the computer normally? 3. Did you make any recent changes on the computer prior to this issue? Method 1: If you are able to boot the computer try these steps. I would suggest you to check if the issue occurs in Safe Mode or not. If the issue does not occur in Safe Mode, set the computer in clean boot and check if it helps. Step 1: To start the computer in Safe Mode follows the steps in the link. Start your computer in safe mode: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Start-your-computer-in-safe-mode Step 2: Let's set the computer in clean boot if the issue do not occur in Safe Mode. Unable to Fix winload.exe corrupt error using bootrec
Summary: After a fresh installation of Windows 7 on a machine that had Windows Vista, I am unable to boot and keep getting an error that Windows failed to start due to corrupt winload.exe. Neither the Startup Repair using the Windows 7 installation CD, nor bootrec.exe have fixed the issue. Objectives in order of preference: 1. Repair Windows 7 so that it boots and retain Windows Vista (once the machine is able to boot and respond to software) in a new partition 2. Repair Windows 7 and retain access to old files During my first attempts, I had a wireless mouse connected to the system. Removing it did not help. I would appreciate any suggestions.
To add to the above, I went ahead and added Windows Vista to the bootlist using bootrec /rebuildbcd. Now when I select Windows Vista from the bootlist, it has me log on and tells me it's preparing my desktop. Whatever step it takes then stalls. The screen that displays "Preparing Your Desktop" with the hourglass fades to a blue screen that remains blue. If I hit Ctrl-Alt-Del, it takes me to the log-off window that allows me to select Task Manager. There are no applications running but it shows various process and services (some services are shown as running, many as stopped).
Hi, Rebuild BCD (Boot Configuration Data) store and check for the issue. a. From the system recovery options mentioned in this article, select command prompt. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/What-are-the-system-recovery-options-in-Windows-7 b. Type Bootrec /RebuildBcd, and then press ENTER. Ø If the Bootrec.exe tool runs successfully, it presents you with an installation path of a Windows directory. To add the entry to the BCD store, type Yes. A confirmation message appears that indicates the entry was added successfully. Ø If the Bootrec.exe tool cannot locate any missing Windows installations, you must remove the BCD store, and then you must re-create it. To do this, type the following commands in the order in which they are presented. Press ENTER after each command. Bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old Bootrec /rebuildbcd c. WINLOAD.exe error.
I've read some people's questions reagarding this error stating that the winload.exe is missing or corrupt. My wife's laptop had this issue happen last night. SHe ahs a single Hard drive loading with VIsta SP2, two partitions, one holding Vista's OS and the other holding the vendor Vista reinstallation app. I am unable to get to the reinstallation poriton, nor am I able to fix the issue by putting in my Vista DVD. the most I get on the screen is a mouse pointer, anything beyond that and it becomes a paperweight. I do not want to delete the partition and restart because there are important files on the system that she needs. I do not have a boot disk to alow me to see a C:/ prompt to do the chdsk.exe Help!
Download the ISO file at the supplied link, and make a Bootable Startup Repair Disk from it. Go into your Bios/Setup, or Boot Menu, at startup, and change the Boot Order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the Boot Order, then reboot with the disk in the Drive. At startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, to go into Bios/Setup, or F12 for the Boot Menu. When you have changed that, insert that Bootable Disk you have made in the Drive, and reboot. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial148.html Cheers. Mick Murphy - Microsoft Partner

Last update made Winload.exe no longer signed
So the last windows update was installed automatically and shortly after my computer shut down and I was stuck in a start-up reboot loop, me out I turned that into a repair startup loop, and then to a WinLoad.exe is not signed error screen. I've done the system restore and failed to fix the issue, I've bootrec /Everything, even tried sfc/config but it says I need to reload windows for it to work. (Which I would do if I could load windows) Even the Windows fix disk crashes right before it finishes loading. I've been wracking my brain for days trying to figure out what happened until I read the little announcement about the optional update that came out today and one a little bit in the future. I could wait but, I can't update if I can't get into WINDOWS! Anyone have any ideas on how I can put the signatures back on Winload.exe, Winresume.exe any my User32.dll files for x64 and x86 (I know I got the trifecta of files the got chosen, wish I was this lucky at the track) Thanks much for
I managed to finally get into windows, I used Active@ Boot Disk to access my hard drives file system and took out all the extra Winload.exe files and Winresume.exe files (there were about 8 extra each) I then copied Winload.exe and Winresume.exe files from my laptop and transferred them over to my troubled desktop. I then reloaded with the Windows 7 installation disk and rebuilt the boot with these commands in this order. bootrec /rebuildbcd bcdedit /export c:\bcdbackup attrib c:\boot\bcd -h -r -s ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old bootrec /fixmbr bootrec /fixboot bootrec /rebuildbcd Afterwards I loaded windows back up and it worked, of coarse I'm now told that my copy of Windows 7 Pro is no longer "Genuine", lol I can worry about fixing that small issue in the morning, now I get to finish off with everything I need to before I format this drive and start fresh all over again. It might be a pain in the **** to do, but when you really need to get back in, and everything else you read about and try

Original title: Winload.exe corrupt or missing, can it be fixed without a recovery cd? So i had a recovery cd for my vista computer but it got ruined awhile ago. I asked this question at yahoo answers and only one person answered my question and they said to do this: "Start in safe mode (f8) and select the C> prompt. Use the following commands: bootrec.exe /fixmbr and then bootrec.exe /fixboot" now when i taped f8 repeatedly nothing happens, so they told me to tap f11, still nothing, the error screen is the only screen i can get to pop up other than bios and boot menu. here is the question i asked on yahoo answers "Ok so yesterday i was doing windows update because i had put it off for a long time and needed to update my computer. i called geek squad and they said it would be almost 200 bucks to get this problem fixed... and the computer probably wouldnt even be that much.. and its a emachines computer but i cant talk to support without my serial number but i was on a piece of the computer than broke off and i dont know where it is..
i want to try method 2 but when i click on the link you gave me it just shows a small box with a red X and asks if this was helpful.... and when i look online for this they all say i need a disk and i would like to try to get this fixed without a cd....
Hi roberthibberd, Let’s follow these methods and check if the issue persists. Method 1 If possible, you may try to arrange for a Windows Vista disc which should correspond to the same edition as installed on your machine. Thereafter, try to perform startup repair and check if you are able to boot to desktop. You will have to boot from the Vista DVD and get to the Win RE (Windows Repair Environment) and choose Startup Repair from the menu. a. Insert the installation disc. b. Restart your computer. c. If prompted, press any key to start Windows from the installation disc. Note: If your computer is not configured to start from a CD or DVD, check the information that came with your computer. You may need to change your computer's BIOS settings. d. Choose your language settings, and then click Next. e. Click Repair your computer. f. Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next. g. On the System Recovery Options menu, click Startup Repair. Startup Repair might prompt y

Hi Finuch66, Welcome to Microsoft Answers. • During Which phase of installation, do you get the error message? Clean and Examine the CD If you have problems installing the program from the CD, the CD may be dirty or damaged. Use a CD-ROM cleaning kit, or gently wipe the silver side of the CD-ROM with a soft, lint-free cotton cloth. Do not use paper. Paper can scratch the plastic and leave streaks. When you clean the CD-ROM, wipe from the center of the disc outward. Do not use a circular motion. If the disc still does not perform correctly, clean the disc by using warm water or a CD-ROM cleaning kit. Dry the disc thoroughly and then test the disc again. Note : If that does not resolve the issue, it would be better to contact the manufacturer as you are using recovery disk. I know what is wrong with my computer but don't know how to go about fixing it. Now, when I installed windows I had formatted the entire hard drive into a single partition and would like to avoid completely wiping the hard drive to reinstall windows. When I tried to start my computer, after about 5-10 minutes, the Windows Boot Manager showed up saying that winload.exe is corrupt. I had the installation disk and ran a startup repair overnight, but when I woke up it was still attempting repairs. I thought of another easy fix: getting the winload.exe from another computer onto a flash drive and replacing the corrupt one. I thought that would work until I tried to delete the corrupt file with command prompt; it said the file was corrupt and unreadable, so I wasn't able to replace it. I'm reinstalling Windows ont

I want to avoid completely wiping the hard drive to reinstall. The reinstall is moving the old windows installation to c:/Windows.old. But, the installation hung at Expanding Files 0% so I forcefully shut down the computer and am currently not reinstalling windows. I'm looking at some other threads on the forums but if you could still help me, that would be appreciated.
For future reference: IF the reinstall had not started, this is what you could have tried: You say that you have the installation disk and that you used it to attempt to do a Startup Repair. A Startup Repair normally does not take long at all. When you Boot from your disk you should also had been able to try and do a System Restore to before you used that defrag program. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/repair-windows-with-windows-startup-repair/ Figure 9. Sorry that didn't help. The information in this thread may help you fix the BCD store to point to the correct Windows drive. http://www.sevenforums.com/hardware-devices/82226-boot-bcd-0xc000000d-unreadable-boot-configuration-data.html
Fix the multiboot with bootrec.exe It will help you rebuild your boot configuration data. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/927392
You're complaining about getting no help after less than two hours from your initial post???
You need to perform a custom install. How to download official Windows 10 ISO files then How to: Perform a custom installation of Windows As I said I have done that -several times-, I also have tried to upgrade to windows 10, I have no problem on installation, the problem is that after installation progress completes, in boot menu I get the winload.exe missing error! (screenshot included in my last post). This happened after 4 installation of windows 7, one installation of windows 8 & 10, all give me the winload.exe missing error after BIOS boot menu.
I found the problem myself after getting no help here... The problem is that my installation drive in windows is D, but in boot's command prompt the same drive letter is E, so the boot file refers to d:windows/system32/winload.exe but actually the file is located in e:windows/system32/winload.exe... I still haven't figured out how to edit my boot file in win 7 but if nobody cared to help me and others here I would post the answer when I find out how.
my first post was at 11/20 8 pm! Still I've got one answer whom didn't even read my question and just wanted to become the first answerer to win the website awards! and the second answer I receive is your complain of my complain. Microsoft isn't a small company, I expected more than these two unrelated & unappropriated answers which is from website's award winners...
Thanks J377, I already have done that with these three commands: bootrec/fixmbe bootrec/fixboot bootrec/rebuildbcd (this command just found a windows.old file and added it to boot menu which it gave me the same winload.exe error!) And with start-up repair in windows RE... still I get the winload.exe error. I also disconnected my external HD, ran windows diagnostic memory, changed my drive letter from D to E but still I receive the same error in boot menu of windows 7 & 10.

Hi, Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community. From the description provided, I understand that the upgrade to Windows 10 did not complete. 1. Did you try to upgrade to Windows 10 via Windows Update or an Installation Media. I suggest you to download the Windows 10 ISO and create a Media Creation Tool using other PC and then perform Automatic Repair. Refer to the following link to download Windows 10 ISO Media. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 Note : Refer to the section "Installing Windows 10 using the media creation tool " in the above article for creating the tool. Once you have the installation media, follow the steps: • Start your computer from the installation media. Insert the disk or USB stick and restart your computer. If you see a message asking you to “Press any key to boot from DVD,” do so. If you don’t see the message, you might need to change the boot order in your computer's BIOS settings so that it first starts from the disk or US
winload.exe error 0xc000035a when trying to install 7 enterprise
I have the following error when trying to install windows 7 enterprise edition winload.exe error 0xc000035a: Attempting to load a 64-bit application, however the CPU is not compatible with 64-bit mode. I have an AMD ATHLON XP.. Thoroughbred 2 GHZ and 1.5G RAM I thought that windows 7 doesnt need to be installed in 64-bit mode and this processor was sufficient? The winload seems to be in a 32-bit directory? I cant run the compatibility app because I have windows 2000. Any help is appreciated
How can I check which version DVD I have....I was sure I have the 32-bit version, it says on the cd 32-bit and 64-bit Thanks again Could never be 32 and 64 bit, Windows 7 32 bit is 2 over GBs, Windows 7 64 bit is over 3 GBs, there is no DVD optical media big enough to hold both. Question, is this volume license media? If so, contact your Administrator from whom you obtain the disk about obtaining the appropriate architecture for your processor. Andre Da Costa http://adacosta.spaces.live.com http://www.activewin.com That's not true. I have two Windows 7 Ultimate DVD's with x86, and 64 bit. I know that a typical DVD is 4.37 GB, but I believe that the data is compressed to fit both architectures on the DVD. This is a fully licensed DVD, by the way...
Windows 7 32 and 64 bit versions are provided on separate disk. The disk has indicated your system is note 64 bit compatible, so you need to obtain the Windows 7 Enterprise 32 bit DVD and install that version instead. In addition to that, the minimum requirements to run Windows 7 64 bit is 2 GBs of RAM, 1 GB minimum for 32 bit. Andre Da Costa http://adacosta.spaces.live.com http://www.activewin.com

Need some help here as everything I have tried has not worked what so ever. Essentially my computer will not update anything. In fact it hasn't updated anything since "2018-05 Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (KB4134661)" - giving off the update error of 0x8000ffff As such every update has refused to install at all. Thus now I deal with a blue screen that happens every so often. The error for the blue screen is SERVICE_SYSTEM_EXCEPTION. Tried everything possible to get this to work and nothing has worked thus far. Recently I went out and bought a windows 10 disc to see if I could boot if off the CD. The installation gets to about 30% then says "Windows 10 has failed to install" Recently I've discovered this lovely message trying to use recovery RECOVERY Your PC/Device needs to be repaired The application or operating system couldn't be loaded because a required file is missing or contains errors. Hi! Did you check this article? https://www.kapilarya.com/your-pc-needs-to-be-r...
I have not seen this article however I put in my windows 10 disc and never see the first step which is: Plug in the installation media or System Recovery Drive or recovery CD and start your system. You’ll see Press any key to boot from CD/DVD… message. So press any key and you’ll reach the screen shown below. Click on Repair your computer... My computer just restarts as normal without going to the disc. Am I supposed to hold down a button when I restart?

I am not sure this will help with your problem but just for general knowledge; to get into a safe boot click on the windows icon and open programs. Scroll down to Windows Admin Tools and then to System Configuration when that opens click on Boot and that will give you several options for booting.
Hello Mel77084, Thanks a lot for your very detailed reply. I really appreciate very very much the time you took. Yes it is just like an airplane crash and I am so happy to dive into the details surrounding my windows 10 build 16199 crash. I use a free anti virus software called "AVAST" which is very popular. I disable AVAST on each update. I urge you to begin using one of the free programs to make an image of the OS partition after build is installed and, in this new, clean install, after you have installed whatever programs you choose. One that works well without much help is Backupper ... you can google to find it. Just remember to make the rescue media for it, and to save the image on a separate drive, so it won't be lost in case your OS drive fails. If you had such a backup image of your previous build, it would only take a few minutes to restore to that build and all your programs.

I kept repeating your mantra "ha easy" "ha easy" "ha easy" =} =} I put build iso 16193 together with Windows Repair Disc including Rufus app on my 32GB usb drive. I booted to "setup" and then selected USB drive to boot to. I selected advanced options I selected repair and Windows image appeared it did its thing chug chug chug. After about 5 minutes, the computer rebooted and I got this error message- Blue Screen of Death File \Boot\BCD Any more helpful advice would be most welcome. Thanks again Techienumber1 jkokes

Put the recovery USB stick in and boot. click on repair - Advanced Options - Command Prompt enter the commands bootrec /scanos - hit enter bootrec /rebuildbcd - hit enter bootrec /fixmbr - hit enter bootrec /fixboot - hit enter and then cross your fingers and reboot. I just noticed you have two other drives open the box and disconnect D and E. When you are trying to fix a problem like always just run the C drive.
I don't see any response to my last reply to you, so presume that you haven't tried what I recommended. If you want to get your computer going again, a clean install will do so for you. To do that, you need to prepare your USB drive so that you can boot to it and follow my instructions to install build 16193, not repair . The website for which I gave you the link explains how to prepare your USB drive to do that. You should begin by having the downloaded ISO on the computer which you will use to do the preparation of the USB drive by using the Rufus tool. You do not simply copy the Rufus tool onto the USB drive in addition to the ISO. When you run the Rufus tool to prepare the USB drive, it will remove whatever is currently on the USB drive , and process the ISO file from the computer, putting it on the USB drive and making it bootable in the process. You then insert the USB drive in the troubled computer, and boot to it. When it boots, select "install now", not "repair your computer".

Original Title - winload.exe My computer could not start on several occasions when i tried to repair using the repair disk it specified a path windows/system32/winload.exe is either corrupt or missing this is the third time am having this problem and repair or recovery disk could not solve it. can anyone please enlighten me on the causes of this problem to help me better avoid loss of data and a whole day of trying to fix my computer.. thanks

Complete recovery option will wipe the drive clean and the harddrive is brand new 3 months old
Restore your computer to an earlier point in time: Start from the repair disk again. Click the system restore option. Follow the instructions on screen, choosing a date&time that takes place before the issue occurred. The chances of this working are probably best for a restore that this comes before the completion of the last successful startup. system file check: Start from the repair disk again. Click the command prompt option. Type out this command and press enter to run it: sfc /SCANFILE=d:\windows\system32\winload.exe /offwindir=d:\windows
The repair disk or any other disk will not load same message pops up the only way I could solve it was to reinstall a fresh windows while the old windows ws renamed the apps on it ws unusable even if some worked like eg my browser bookmarks and settings are gone
Re-Install a fresh window in your computer or do a complete recovery once then after that run Check disk once in your computer to be sure the hard drive is working fine. Go through steps in order to run recovery http://onlinefixit.blogspot.in/p/recovery-recovery-system-recovery.html

Fixing Winload.exe Windows 10 - 0xc000000e Issue
My PC went down again three days ago. This is the fourth time since December, on two different PCs, that have crashed. I have lost many days, spent several hundreds of dollars to resolve and lost all my data on my desktop in December. Researching online reveals that 0xc000000e issues have plaqued several thousand users since at least 2015. I have tried several recommended solutions including some recommended by Microsoft without any success. I am so frustrated tha I am seriously thinking of moving to MAC unless I can resolve the issue soon. What do you suggest?
Hi Lbohen, Just to verify, what changes have you made prior to getting this issue? To avoid repetition, may we know what specific troubleshooting steps have you done so far? We'll be waiting for you response.

Insert the Windows 7 installation disc into the disc drive, and then start the computer. 2. Press a key when the message indicating "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD …" appears. 3. Select a language, a time and currency, and a keyboard or input method, and then click next. 4. Click Repair your computer. 5. Windows 8 Boot Manager Failure - Winload.exe
After completing the upgrade from installation of Windows 8 from Windows 7, I receive a "Windows Boot Manager" when trying to restart. File: \Windows\System32\winload.exe status: 0xc0000428 Info: Windows cannot verify the digital signature for this file. I've tried several solutions using, F8 Advanced Repair to no avail. Anyone ??

I have the same issue and am unable to get past it. I have no idea what to do. I am also unable to get to F8 boot menu even doing the Shift+F8. Command is just ignored upon initial boot. I have also done automatic repair with the same results BUT even clicking continue to windows 8 still gets me no where.
Thanks Andre for your reply, I followed your directions. Did an F8 to get into the "Repair your computer" Selected TroubleShoot Selected Advanced Options There is no "Startup repair" so I tried "Automatic Repair" Then Selected "Windows 8" operating system Result was: "Automatic Repair Couldn't repair your PC" Then selected "Continue Windows 8" which logged into windows 8 ok. Try this: Download the ISO file at the supplied link, and make a Bootable Repair Disk from it. Cheers. Mick Murphy - Microsoft Partner

Hi, What is the make and model of the computer? I would suggest you to contact your computer manufacturer or visit the manufacturer’s support website to find instructions on how to set the boot order in the BIOS and then try to perform startup repair using the Windows 8 DVD. If the issue persists after performing startup repair using the Windows 8 DVD then, it is possible that the PC might be experiencing hardware issues, then you may run diagnostics to make sure the hardware is working fine.

File not found "\windows\system32\winload.exe" (0xc000000e)
When I try to boot with any hard drives other than my (new) boot drive hooked up, I get the error above. My computer recently suffered a complete failure (shipped across the country, arrived looking like a vase inside a concrete box). As a result, I lost my boot drive and had to replace my mobo/cpu/ram. I had six hard drives, and I formatted one of the others and reinstalled Windows 7 on it. When the installer was finished with the CD and rebooted, it gave me the error. I disconnected all of the other drives and rebooted, and it booted up and finished installing. After I got into Windows, I connected the other drives, they spun up and worked just fine - until I rebooted. Now every time I reboot it's the same story. It's not the end of the world; my computer is at least working again and I can access my drives, but fiddling with the SATA cables every time I reboot will be really irritating. Has anyone else had this happen to them, and/or know how to fix it? Thanks, Geoff
Go to the website of your hard drive manufacturer and download their diagnostic tool. I suspect one or more of your hard drives starts to fail. Hope I could help

I have unplugged 1st hard drive ( win 8.1 ) and am currently using win 10 preview ( on separate hard drive ) and everything is working fine so far ( rock solid actually ). thanks, gary.

I had this issue with Win 10. The problem is after upgrading from Win 7 to Win 10 THERE IS NO INSTALL DISC!!!!! And since I started with a Dell OEM Win 7, there's no install disc for that either. So now what?
Hey, I have this same trouble. I have an Azus Zenbbok laptop, I never add any Hardware. And the last time I used my computer, I was on an Excel doc, and on the Internet. I bought my computer with windows 8, after 2 updates, I run now my computer on Windows 10 since 8 months, and I had no specific troubles. I tried to fix this issue with 2 different USB key on bootable under windows 8 and one with windows 10. I tried the methods 1 & the methods 2, but each action I do when I restart the computer, it’s the same blue screen :/ Absolutely no evolution. Could someone give me some Help to fix this. I would be really gratefull/ Thanks

Tried every method on the internet including this, nothing worked. I also tried moving a backup winloader but I couldn't find any and there was none in my system32 folder either. i think its actually missing and i need to replace it, how can I? trying this fix also broke my bcr so I don't know how to fix that either. Recently the bootmenu has started saying that my windows drive is locked so i can't even run any fixes and it wont even detect that there's a windows partition installed in some places. Now i need a new winloader.exe and a new bcr file. none of these exist anywhere I've looked. could you please help? I'm running Windows 10 Technical Preview build 10074 and I've been trying to update for a while, the new build finishes downloading from the windows web site because windows update gave me errors and i turn on my computer to install it and it crashes, i restart and it wont start up. What can I do from here?

No way to get the error cleared using both method suggested above (actually method 2 worked for one boot-up, but then on the next one the same error re-appeared). Unable to load, getting the error winload.exe file is missing
Original title: Winload.exe is missing Hello, I am unable to load my windows 10. I am getting the error winload.exe file is missing. Pressing F8,F2 and F10 does not as it is not taking me to the advanced boot or system repair menu. I currently do not have the windows boot disc and not sure how to proceed further. Your help wil be much appreciated. Thanks.
You would need an Installation media i.e. ISO burned into a DVD or a USB and start your computer from it. Then at the screen which says install now, click Repair your computer. Unfortunately there is no other way to restore Windows 10.
Win7/Win10 dual boot giving winload.exe error 605
I have a dual boot system, or used to. Apparently the winload.exe file expired (?) and now when I try to boot the system it gives me the option to boot to the tech preview, but it kicks out the winload.exe error 605 message. From that screen I can only reboot and repeat the problem or choose my Win7 OS which still works. The Win10 preview partition started out its life as a Win8.1 partition and was updated to Win10. I wasn't using it much. So far I have downloaded a Win10 install iso and burned it to a DVD. I think I could install from this but I really would prefer to repair the current installation rather than install over it. I also created a Win8 disk. When I try to boot to either disk it's not giving me enough information to know whether I am installing over my Win7 partition, my now defunct Win10 partition, or what. Wouldn't it be simple to just provide a replacement winload.exe file and copy it into the proper directory? Any help would be appreciated.

Winload.exe missing or corrupt!
Hi there, I installed Solaris 10 on a seperate partition, and now when I try to boot into Windows Vista Home Premium it says 'winload.exe missing or corrupt.' Using linux, I have checked the Windows partition is still there - and it is, complete with all files. I have tried to use the Windows Vista DVD, but it won't list Vista and it cannot do startup repair. Any help is must appreciated.
This is what happends: X:\Sources>Bootrec /rebuildbcd Scanning all disks for Windows installations. Please wait, since this may take a while... Successfully scanned Windows installations. Total indentified Windows installations: 1 [1] C:\Windows Add installation to boot list? Yes
Hi, Thanks for your help. The problem is a step 5 when no operating system is listed. It spews out errors, then, when trying to use Bootrec, Bcdedit commands etc.
1. Put the Windows Vista installation disc in the disc drive, and then start the computer. 2. Press a key when you are prompted. 3. Visit our and let us know what you think.
Hello KiranH, Thank you for using the Microsoft Vista Answers Forum! This error occurs when either of the following conditions is true: · The Windows Boot Manager (Bootmgr) entry is not present in the Boot Configuration Data (BCD) store. · The Boot\BCD file on the active partition is damaged or missing. You can rebuild the BCD store by using the Bootrec.exe tool in the Windows Recovery Environment. Hello KiranH, Thank you for posting. What seems to have happened is that your Solaris installation has corrupted the Windows Vista boot sector. If you cannot access Vista through a dual-boot menu then you probably have to reinstall Vista to correct this. Please let me know if this helps you. Hi Marc, Welcome and thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community. I understand that you are having a tough time working on the computer. I will certainly help you to resolve the issue. This issue could occur due to corrupted Master Boot Record. A boot sector is a part of hard disk or any storage device which contains machine code. A Boot Sector loads the machine code stored in the storage device. Hope it helps. Let us know if you have any further query on Windows, we are glad to assist you further.
Abdul, I have read all the posts here and followed the instructions but when my computer starts up, I get stuck at the "Choose your keyboard layout". I have a usb keyboard (US layout) and a usb marble mouse with no indication that the system "see" either device. I have moved both to different USB ports and no change. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hello Marc, Thank you for your response. I appreciate your time. I would suggest you to run bootrec commands in the command prompt from Windows recovery environment Please do let us know if you need any further assistance. Thank you
Many thanks to Abdul and Ratandeep for their quick response. After 4 days of research and trial and error, I finally got back into my win 10 installation. Looks like after the firmware upgrade of the motherboard, the bootfiles the system uses were nor on my win 7 disk, neither on the win 10 ssd but on the 3 of my 4 disk which is used by Acronis for backup. I went into recovery prompt mode and on this disk the bootrec /rebuildbcd command found my win 10 installation and added it to the bcd. I then made the bcd file on the ssd visible by attrib bcd -h -r -s and copied the correct bcd to the ssd. PS One of my Original problems was that I could not boot from DVD. Although I was able to write the dvd, it would not recognize the drive while booting. Changing to another loose sata cable (other port) solved this problem ??? All in all, I am now a happy win 10 user again ! Thanks again guys
Admittedly a little late, but it could prove helpful to someone on the hunt for a solution. I encountered this error earlier today after resetting my cmos while troubleshooting a ram issue. Bashed my head of the desk for a while, until I remembered about the time-stamp security in NTFS, checked my bios and spotted that I'd set the date 12/4/2016 not 4/12/2016, corrected that and rebooted.. Voila problem solved, no iso, BCD or repairing needed. ;tldr.. Reset bios without correctly setting time and date, Windows 10 presented 0xc0000428c error code, Adjusted bios clock to correct values, Issue resolved.
Let me first thank you Abdul for your quick response. A few years ago I upgraded my system (first generation i-7 920) with a SSD. I than transferred my win 7 to the new disk by means of partioning software without moving programs and user data. Because of the amount of user data and as a sort of backup, I did keep the old install and thus had a (not 100% legal I know) dual boot with two win 7. The win 7 on SSD is the one I use and the one that was upgraded eventually to win 10 a few months ago. (The version of the operating system is incompatible with Startup Recovery). Sorry for this elaborate reply but I would greatly appreciate your further thoughts.
winload.exe corrupt or missing (0xc0000221)
Have been running Vista on a Lenovo T61 Think Pad for over a year and just today (just a week after the warranty expired), windows vista will not boot up completely. I get the black screen with the following error: Windows Failed to start. a recenent hardware or software change may be the cause. to fix this problem: (boot from the cd and repair windows) (doesnt actually say that but thats what it tells you to do) File: /windows/system32/winload.exe Status: 0xc0000221 Info: the file is possibaly corupt. its header checksum does not match the computed checksum. I created a boot disk (since the manufacturer didn't provide one with the laptop) and was able to run the repair (with no luck) and the system restore (also with no luck). I can get to the c: prompt through the boot disk and I've run the HDD diagnostic from the BIOS screen and it passed (so far... still in process). The manufacturer's help desk told me that I needed to delete or replace my entire hard drive and reinstall Windows
I have looked all over alot of posts, one thing is a recurring theme, that is to try and run SFC, and try to run the repair from Vista CD, well i have done that, I have also taken the drive out of the machine put it into external drive cradle and ran chkdsk on it. I have also tried to do a complete reinstall. The 0xc000021 error im getting happens after the new install copies the files extracts the files then reboots. I have formatted the drive. so it is an absolutely clean install. I have ran the IBM-Hitachi drive tools checker on the drive also. Any other options?? or suggestions?? The forums are filled with the basic what to do if this happens but never goes beyond that, what do you do if the suggestions do not work?
This is late but hopefully it will help someone in the future. In recovery console you want to click on command prompt. type c: then press enter then type dir and press enter if you don't see Windows on the list then you are in the wrong directory . So type d: and press enter Then type dir and press enter Keep going until the letter shows you Windows from the list once you know which letter windows is stored on type in (assuming c: is where the windows folder is) sfc /scannow /offwindir=c:\windows\ /offbootdir=c:\ press enter Normally this won't fix a missing winload.exe but will fix corruption within your operating system. To replace a missing or damaged winload.exe you need to extract it from a windows cd or maybe a system restore point could help. Anyway, I hope this helps.

Hi Joseph, Thanks for posting to answers.microsoft.com When the system begins to POST are you able to hit F8 a few times and try to access the Recovery Screen? If so are you able to use LAST KNOWN good configuration to see if you are able to get backup and running? If not, can you boot into Safemode from that F8 screen? If those options aren't available, the best step would be to get your Windows Vista Recovery CD and boot to it and run the STARTUP REPAIR options. Joseph, Using the command prompt window from the System Recovery Options, I ran the sfc /scannow command as instructed and it gave me the following: "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation." Also... just to let you know, I was able to connect an external hard drive to the computer and through the dos-prompt, was able to copy most of our documents from the hard drive onto the external hard drive. Therefore, given that and given the successful result of the HDD diagnostic, I really don't think that this is a hard drive issue but truly a Vista issue. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Hello bayareapianoman, Thank you for visiting the Microsoft Windows Vista Community site. One option you can try is using the system file checker tool. From the command prompt type the following command, and then press ENTER: sfc /scannow The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions. I hav not updated drivers or motherboard
Hello Christophbarr, Let's start with a chkdsk from WinRE: 1. Tap F8 during startup to get to the Startup Options menu. 2. Choose Repair Windows. 3. After choosing the location and logging on, click on the Command Prompt option. 4. Type the following command followed by the ENTER key: CHKDSK C: /F 5. Let CHKDSK run to completion. It may take some time so be patient and do not restart the computer while it is running. 6. When CHKDSK has completed, restart and see if we can get into normal and/or safe mode. Let us know if you have any questions. Best regards, Matthew_Ha

Hi capi0122, If rebuilding the BCD does not resolve the startup issue, you can export and delete the BCD, and then run this option again. By doing this, you make sure that the BCD is completely rebuilt. To do this, type the following commands at the Windows RE command prompt: * bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup * c: * cd boot * attrib bcd -s -h -r * ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old * bootrec /RebuildBcd /FixMbr The /FixMbr option writes a Windows 7 or Windows Vista-compatible MBR to the system partition. This option does not overwrite the existing partition table. Use this option when you must resolve MBR corruption issues, or when you have to remove non-standard code from the MBR. /FixBoot The /FixBoot option writes a new boot sector to the system partition by using a boot sector that is compatible with Windows Vista or Windows 7. Use this option if one of the following conditions is true: * The boot sector has been replaced with a non-standard Windows Vista or Windows 7 boot sector. * The boot se

Hi chetanjagkar, Corrupted boot system files is one of the possible reasons why you are having issues booting your Windows 7 computer. I would suggest that you try using the Automatic Repair or Startup Repair feature. Startup Repair can detect and fix certain types of system problems that might prevent Windows from starting. You can follow the steps in this link and go to the section, Method 2: Use the Automatic Repair or Startup Repair feature, and click Windows 7 . Windows 7 winload.exe error 0x0000428
I was using my laptop like usuall and it suddenly shut down and when i rebooted a black screen came up telling me that there was an error with winload.exe. i pressed enter to continue and selected "windows 7 home premium" but it just took me back to the same screen. i can't even log on.
this didn't work at all. But thanks anyways, i fixed the problem.
I think the letters d and f represent the drive you boot from. so if youre booting from C drive which makes sense unless your running dual boot it would look like "bcdboot C:\windows /s C:" without the qoute marks. Whoops forgot to add you must be at the >C: prompt so thats where the "CD C:"
Hi, This issue can occur if the bootloader cannot find Windows 7 boot sector or boot files. Follow these steps: In Vista, open an elevated command prompt, Type( or copy and paste these if you like). cd /d f:\windows\system32 then press enter bcdboot f:\windows /s c: then press enter. Close command prompt. Restart the pc. See this link - http://www.sevenforums.com/installation-setup/30572-problem-dualboot-vista-7-winload-exe-error-2.html
Winload.exe missing or corrupt
Hello. I was working to clone my HDD to a USB HDD (enclosed). I think I may have inadvertently made the USB HDD (empty; no OS) a boot drive. Now I get the "there has been a software/hardware change to system; winload is missing or corrupt" error and won't boot to Vista Business. I can get to system prompt via Recovery Console but it only shows X: and won't let me change to C:. It does not show me the C: drive to repair. It asks for drivers and try to give it HDD driver but it doesn't see it. Any chance of recovering from this mess? Any commands to force it to look at C:? Thanks for any suggestions in advance.
MMMmnnn All good information but what happens when the HDD WILL NOT allow any write to the Disk, I have made a backup of the registry (always keep a backup no older than a week). I get the Winload error and this occure on BOTH Win 7 partitions so it's pointing to the Boot Loader BUT I cannot find where it is hiding as my system has a number of active partitions, Multi boot with Snowleopard, Ubuntu , XP and Win 7. ONLY the OS is on "C:\" So I just might Format and reinstall. I have not detected a bug in the system but ya never know. I'll check out the MS link and see if I have any Joy there. Thanks for the info.

Windows 8 Hangs then says missing winload.exe
Hello, For the past couple of days my computer has been following this pattern: I will notice I can't close windows or switch back to tiles. I can't interact at all. If I hit the reset button then a blue screen comes up and says I am missing winload.exe and to press enter or f8 neither do anything. Then I will do I hard reset, windows 8 boots up normally and will be fine for about 2 hours or so until the cycle starts again. I thought the issue was the bootloader so I first tried to to the automatic fix with a win8 boot usb that did nothing. Then I backed everything up and broke down and wiped the whole hard drive and did a new install and I still have the issue. I have no idea what is going on now. Anyone seen this before?

Do you have any external USB memory devices connected to the computer? I would suggest you to place the computer in clean boot state and check if this fixes the issue. You can start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This kind of startup is known as a "clean boot." A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts. To set the computer in clean boot, follow the steps from the link: How to perform a clean boot Note: After checking in clean boot, follow the step “How to reset the computer to start as usual after clean boot troubleshooting” from the article to reset the computer to normal boot.

windows 7 winload.exe missing digital signature
Every night at 9:00 pm my system crashes and displays the notorious Winload.exe not digitally signed. I run Bootrec/fixboot and fix mbr and it temporarily fixes the problem until 9:00 pm rolls around the next day. I've run BCD edit DDisable INTEGRITY CHECKS and TESTSIGNING On, still to no avail. This is driving me nuts...Any ideas????
AT1, AT2, AT3 running every day at 9:00 pm.... There is also an "updater" than began running at 9:00 PM 10/7/2010, repeated every 1 hour indefinitely. Looks like some kind of virus webroot isnt catching. I'm going to try and delete the scheduled tasks and run Microsoft malicious software removal tool.

winload.exe is missing (again!)
I updated Windows 8.1 in an attempt to activate my copy of Windows (see last question ). It finished updating, and it restarted. I went to do something, and when I came back, I was greeted with a blue screen saying that winload.exe is missing, or something like that. So I restarted and booted to HP Recovery to attempt a System Restore. Everything but System Recovery (back to Windows 7) was greyed out. So I popped in my Windows 8 64-bit disc to try Automatic Repair, which worked the first time winload.exe acted up. I can't get into System Restore or Startup Repair. Refresh and Reset doesn't work. Chkdsk didn't work. /fixmbr doesn't work. Right now, I'm doing another Automatic Repair. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I only have the Pro edition disc, and right now I can't get the 8.1 evaluation ISO because I'm about to burst my data cap. I'm gonna look for a Ubuntu disc in my drawers to back the files up. When I'm finished, I'll try to do an upgrade install of Windows 8. If it fails, I could try to factory reset to Windows 7. The model of my PC is a Compaq Presario CQ1-2010AN, running Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center.
Hi Bocacao, What is the make and model of the computer? Method 1: I would suggest you to use a different Windows 8 installation DVD and check if you can perform System Restore or Automatic Repair. Method 2: If you have a system recovery partition, you may also try to reset the computer to factory reset using recovery partition. Check if it helps. Note: Be sure to back up any data you want to keep before you begin. Resetting to Factory Reset will delete all the data. Hope this information helps.
